A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix, Viki, Amazon Prime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama - the best are listed below.

The previous thread is here. Our cumulative list includes previous threads’ recommendations and favourites. Shows with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. On genre categories, most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance with a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Tonal chaos is part of kdrama’s charm. View the categories below as best approximate & ask if you need guidance about suitability for younger viewers.

We are fans of all things Korean, so equally happy to talk about Korean cookery, language, current affairs, film and music when the mood takes us. A few of us are learning Korean, Japanese and/or Mandarin (some more diligently than others), so we swap tips and links to language resources. Basically, anything topical goes.

I started Undercover Miss Hong a couple of days ago, though I fell asleep partway through episode 1 and need to rewatch it. I liked the retro analogue touches and general vibe. Park Shinhye is entertaining though possibly at risk of being typecast as go-to kdrama ballbreaker.

Reading a book called Oxford Soju Club and loved this bit - not sure if it's true but they do never seem to stop at one bottle!

I stayed up far too late last night binge-watching Moon River. Kang Tae-Oh is so much fun, especially after the body swap. He has a gift for comedy. Kim Sejeong is also well cast, as she has the range for it. I am grateful to KTO for his fan service - 감사합니다! 🙏

The race to buy FL cold raw fish soup in Positively Yours makes me think that national public health bodies vary in their advice to pregnant women. I’d assumed raw fish/sushi would be a hard no.

I'm watching Yumi's Cells (first series) and just watched the episode where she books the hotel room with the full glass bathroom. One of the funniest episodes of kdrama I've ever watched.

We had hotel en suite bathrooms in (frosted) glass cubes in our Seoul hotel. My teen sons were sharing a twin. The horror! The horror! We never heard the end of it for the whole stay, thankfully only 2 nights. 😆

There was nothing frosted about this glass! I couldn't tell if the toilet was separate- I'm hoping it was. A passion killer, surely!

Now I’m frantically checking all my Japan hotel bookings… DS (16) is sharing the rooms with us!

I've stayed in a hotel with a bathroom like that in Korea. The loo was separate (frosted glass I believe?) and there was the option of a modesty curtain between the shower/bath bit and the main room 🤩

I want to shout out about how fab Spring Fever is (Prime). Ahn Bo-hyun, who I really rate (kind of meathead/pretty boy reputation but he's actually a very talented actor and especially great in comic/tongue-in-cheek parts) and Lee Joo-bin were both born for their roles.

It's OTT, has lots of slapstick/visual humour, but is also funny, warm and beautifully shot. I'm laughing out loud every episode.

Oh I can vouch for the penchant for glass/see through bathrooms in HK and China as well. Some have a blinds but you have to remember 😉. Saram thanks for the recommendation on Spring Fever, sounds like my kind of series. But anyone else struggle with the Prime interface? It is very clunky if you need to rewind. Just finished ProBono and enjoyed it a lot. Looking forward to getting into my Netflix tonight to load my reminders for the ARIRANG concert and BTS documentary.

I don’t remember frosted glass cubes in the Korean hotels we stayed in,but I do remember one bathroom which had several chrome levers by the bath, the functions of which were obscure. It took a lot of trial and error to work out which one did what.
The bath also had a plug in the middle of its base which sprang open at the touch of thigh or buttock.

Also watching this as we speak! It’s fun. A nice break from all the glossy/intense dramas.

Is Spring Fever worth seeking out on Olga’s? We don’t have Prime.

I’m plodding to the end of Moon Fever which has now had one too many royal poisonings and twists. I have also put To My Beloved Thief on the back burner. I am sageuked out chingus. I love Kang Tae Oh and have decided sageuk roles are too serious for him. Give me modern day KTO with hus sunny smile and playful side every time.

Spring Fever is enjoyable. The nephew was in Spirit Fingers and is very good (and the teenage girl played the younger version of the twins in Our Unwritten Seoul).

The villain has the hottest bod. I’ve never seen the Left State Counsellor do bare-chested pull-ups before in a sageuk so it caught me by surprise. That actor has ripped abs, and age appropriate too (mid-40s). 😆
