A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix, Viki, Amazon Prime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama - the best are listed below.

The previous thread is here. Our cumulative list includes previous threads’ recommendations and favourites. Shows with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. On genre categories, most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance with a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Tonal chaos is part of kdrama’s charm. I'm also enjoying watching Spring Fever, as that was DP choice this week. We're only two episodes in so far, but have found it a fun, easy to watch show.

With you there MrsFeatherbottom - he was much more my cup of tea in Descendants of the Sun than Song Joong-kim who always looked a bit too soft to be a special forces soldier.

Just back from watching the Stray Kids Experience at the cinema - it was really good.

Thanks to everyone who suggested can this Love be Translated? - loved it. So nice to be able to watch the whole thing. I feel like sometimes I get bored with the wait. (I haven’t been able to make myself finish Typhoon Family)
Anyone else watching No Tail to Tell? It’s been a fun watch for the weekend even though the soccer scenes are uncomfortably cringy. Funny that I can’t cope with the football but have no issues believing in the existence of a nine tailed fox 😂

I’ve been distracted by the winter Olympics but managed to squeeze in Positively Yours yeaterday.

I'm watching No Tail to Tell Clarity. I'm finding it really fun, very unpredictable. Unlike Positively Yours, which I've got a bit bored with, so have swapped to Spring Fever which is OK.
I've also been a bit distracted by the Olympics Boaty. I've been cheering on our ice dancers and also Korea's Ice Prince, Junhwan Cha, who's already won a competition - as most handsome male athlete at the winter games 😁

I overall enjoyed CTLBT but the last minute “twist” was unnecessary and pulled me out a bit.

I do think that Go Youn-jung is a superstar though.

I'm another bored with Postively Yours atm, but might return to it later. Enjoying No Tail to Tell, especially ep8 where the fox demands that the ML dates her, and The Judge Returns.

I was surprised at how uninvested I was in the contestants of Singles Inferno5. The world has moved on, (for me, at least) and the show didn't make the leap with it, in spite of the producers thinking more - boob jobs, plastic surgery and gym bodies - was the answer.😬

Agree that Positively Yours is just boring.

I enjoyed the first two episodes of Our Universe. I've said before that a cute dog can easily add one point to the score of a kdrama for me, well if the same were true for kids, then the kid in Our Universe is SOO cute that it could add 2 points to the score! Did you see him at the press conference? Adorable.

He is cute as a button. Must be twins, right? They couldn’t have got that much biddable smiling in the can with just one ankle biter.

I didn't see a twin in any of the behind the scenes or press conference - maybe they just had to shoot for hours!!

The Olympics have seriously hampered my kdrama viewing.

I’ve been squeezing in episodes of You & Everything Else as & when I can. It’s really good and captures the complexity of female friendship, grief, jealousy. Kim Go Eun is on top form. Kim Gun Woo suits his military buzz cut in this way more than his usual floppy hair. It makes him look younger too.

I was very much enjoying the men's figure skating tonight until the BBC inexplicably decided to switch to ice hockey so not only did I not get see Junhwan skate (who I'd been waiting for all evening 😟) but we missed Mikhail Shaidorov's gold medal winning skate as well. When the BBC finally got back to it he was already sitting in the leader's chair with a mega score and none of the four skaters that came after could catch him. What a waste of an evening!

On the plus side I've convinced DH to watch CTLBT and so far he's enjoying it too so at least I've got that to look forward to over the rest of the weekend. So kdrama 1 - BBC sports 0

You & Everything Else is so good. I’m up to the start of episode 12. FL’s frenemy BFF Cheon Sang Yeon is such a grimly compelling character. She’s horrible and getting more unlikable as their story unfolds. I think I’m supposed to feel some sympathy for her but she’s a total viper. Resentful, jealous, spiteful. The only mystery is why Kim Go Eun’s character is giving her the time of day.

I love the FL character’s self-awareness and decisiveness during the college bit, and later turning her colleague down. Is it possible for someone that self-aware to have such a massive blind spot? That’s the most implausible bit of the story IMO.

It’s really good Migs. I’ve still got a few episodes to go but it might be my first 10 of the year.

The more I watch of You & Everything Else the more certain I am that the writer has crossed paths with her own Sang Yeon. The writing is so on point it is almost painful to watch.

I agree with you Boaty on Y&EE. Really good show and at times very uncomfortable to watch, in a good way.

episode too, enough to knock it down from a 10 to a 9. I thought that the final couple of episodes stretched credibility in light of everything else that had happened.

I can’t believe the kid’s only been to A&E once so far in Our Universe. I’m 5 episodes in & the two adults barely have any interaction him beyond feeding, watering and bathing. He’s allowed to romp around their non-childproofed apartment, workplaces etc. No one has eyes on him 90% of the time. My eldest was into everything at that age. Even with close supervision we had several A&E visits in his preschool years. 🙈

The obvious fake back-to-camera mannekin toddler with shiny acrylic wig bits are also naff.

And yet I am still watching…
