A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix, Viki, Amazon Prime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama - the best are listed below.

The previous thread is here. Our cumulative list includes previous threads’ recommendations and favourites. Shows with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. On genre categories, most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance with a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Tonal chaos is part of kdrama’s charm. I love this expression!

I finished Love Me - it stayed an emotional rollercoaster right to the end. Some fabulous acting - in particular the teenage boy who was amazing. I did shed some tears in the last two episodes.

I watched the first 2 episodes of Positively Yours last night. It’s fun. I was doubtful about CJH as the ML but his stage snogging technique has evolved from wooden face-mashing in 2014’s Pride & Prejudice to Alien face-hugger in PY’s one night stand. 😆 I’m enjoying my maekju edu-ma-cation as a side benefit of the featured industry. Kdramas are always informative in this regard. 😄

Is it worth finishing @mrsfeatherbottom ? I get heartsink when Love Me bobs up on my continue watching list.

Viki’s lost all my bookmarks since I upgraded my phone operating system, but the ex had shown up & was giving FL grief.

I would stick with it if you think you can handle the ups and downs!!

I'm also watching Positively Yours. It's so unoriginal, it's almost laughable but I'm enjoying it nonetheless. Don't find the ML attractive in the slightest (I'm sure he'd say the same about me 😁)

I haven't started Positively Yours yet as I'm finishing up others shows I had already started, but I'm struggling with the concept of CJH not being attractive. That just doesn't seem possible to be...I'd better get on to it ASAP so I can see it with my own eyes....

I think it’s more that CHH is less charismatic than some other ML-tier actors and lacks a certain lightness needed for comedy. Sometimes that’s a strength for him. He was v good as Jang Na-ra’s super-upright royal body guard in The Last Empress.

But...but...zombie detective....

I'm the outlier here re Choi Jin-hyuk as I find him very watchable. I'm fascinated with his face and keep wondering what he would look like with tons of lip filler! 🤔

I'll admit I did find CJH weirdly sexy in Zombie Detective also 😂

I'll just be relieved to be able to start on something - anything! - new, having finally limped to the end of Speed and Love. Although the ML was gorgeous, and did his best to bring some emotional depth to the show, large chunks of it were pretty boring, especially the bits where Esther Yu paraded around in a succession of ever more ridiculous outfits pretending (unconvincingly) to be a cutesy teenager. Although I wouldn't go as far as one commentator who said they'd rather watch the BL with the ML and his Thai co-star (😂), I agree a few more scenes with Mike Angelo and a few less with EY wouldn't have gone amiss and overall I enjoyed the "speed" quite a bit more than the "love" 😁

Idol I, on the other hand, isn't disappointing at all. I love Kim Jae Young and I'm loving him in this. Our hot assassin has finally landed the ML role he deserves and from the promos I've seen on SM he's really enjoying his moment in the limelight as well, which is lovely to see having followed his career and been cheering him on for so long 👏❤️

Having seen a few clips of Choi Jin-hyuk and his Mum on 'My Little Old Boy' I have a bit of a soft spot for him as he seems to have been hard done by in love, cheated on heavily for more than a year and has also made some ill advised investments with friends. His Mum can be quite harsh with him and is desperate for him to get married and doesn't hide it.

For some reason I thought he was already married. Is that not the case? I have also seen those clips. I wouldn’t want CJH’s mother as my MIL. She is terrifying and has no filter at all.

I also saw an Idol i promo reel of Kim Jae Young on Insta where he said he was nearly 40 😮😮😮 and getting too old to play an idol.

He doesn't look it all, does he? Although a lot of it's in the acting, I think, he acts the part so you believe it. He's definitely more convincing playing someone 10 years younger than Esther Yu that's for sure 😂

I looked Kim Jae Young up on t’internet. Wikipedia says he’s 37 so he’s either over-egging the ‘nearly 40’ thing or his real birth date is closer than his public one. What I’d give to be 37 again (without pre-schoolers, obvs)!

Watching Undercover Miss Hong and it's funny because Park Shinhye plays a 35 year old pretending to be 20 and everyone keeps commenting on how old she looks! Makes a change from dramas where they stick 30 year olds in a school uniform and we're supposed to believe they are 19!
