Carrying on from the last thread. Smile

Asha took an overdose, as she has been depressed and low, but she's OK (physically.) Recently been attacked by a horrible racist woman who seems to have got away with it thus far!

Brody - Kit's son - is starting to become 'nice,' like (nearly) all the bad kids do!

Tim has just met up with a woman he knew from years ago... An ex flame I think. Sally is not happy!

Jenny has left!

Bethany is back! Lost her journo job. Again!

Todd is still in a bad, toxic relationship with Theo! Lego hair.

Lisa Swain's deceased wife Becky has risen from the grave! Threatening Lisa and Carla's relationship.

Kev's brother Carl enjoys having sex - with anyone really. Abi believes that Carl loves her. He doesn't!

Tyrone's not having a good time lately! He's in a bad way after being hit by a car.

Probably some more stuff going on that I've missed.

Not gonna lie, I recorded tonight's episode, so I could watch it without the breaks, (as I often do!) and the first half was so awful that I skimmed through half of it.

The monologues/what David and Shona were thinking being said out loud really jarred me, and irritated me! 😆Why the fluff did they do that?! It was awful.

However, I did quite enjoy the second half of the programme. Smile

I used to watch a good programme on Netflix called 'You' about a man who was a killer, even though he seemed charming on the outside and quite cute. HE did this 'speaking what was going on' thing sometimes, and it was OK for the first couple of seasons as there wasn't too much of it.

But the third and fourth seasons it was happening a bit much. I tolerated it though. By Season 5 (this year,) it was almost ALL him jabbering on in his head, and doing monologues and narration over every scene. It became much more than the actual speaking! It was SO unnecessary ... I only lasted 2 episodes and the bailed. The first half of tonight's Corrie was like this. It really annoyed me!

Thankfully it stopped for the second half of the show. As I said, I enjoyed the second half.

I did like the fact there was no Becky. If only there was no Becky in all the episodes

1reason · 12/11/2025 22:30

That was a very unusual episode! Unsure what screenwriting technique was being used to hear Shona and David's thoughts. Difficult times ahead for sure.
Cocktail night in Rovers looked a riot..Mary, Rita and Kirk!
Glimpses of upcoming stories .
Best thing for me was no Swain family.

at least we did not have her internal monologue

I thought this, there was no one in the pub ! Can’t see that being a viable business. Annnnnd Eva’s bloody laugh. So false . Want them to go now.

Yes but Penn Badgley is rather gorgeous!

This Shona soliloquy is kind of strange. Although it makes her eyes look amazing.

Has she had a glow up ? She looks different

Freysimo · 13/11/2025 07:35

I record Corrie so skipped through the whole boring talking thoughts bit. Tonight's episode was as if they'd taken a group of random writers and just spliced bits theyd come up with together. There was no cohesion at all and I thought the whole episode was dreadful.

Freysimo · 13/11/2025 07:37

@SabreIsMyFave That's exactly my thoughts about You. It started out so well but by the end it was unwatchable.

HaddyAbrams · 13/11/2025 07:58

I thought it should have been such a good episode with the whole Platt baby thing. But the filming style was just weird and annoying

AmusedMaker · 13/11/2025 08:07

Just knew Shona’s pregnancy was not going to go smoothly. Her mental health will no doubt suffer.
I hope the: ‘this is what I’m thinking’ type thing doesn’t become a regular feature, I found it a bit annoying. Although I used to love it when Hollyoaks ( when I was watching it years ago ) put text messages on the screen so I could actually read them. I normally have to pause the TV & get my magnifying glass out.

Shellingbynight · 13/11/2025 08:52

I didn’t think the Shona soliloquy scenes worked that well, because it showed up the actor's limits. David is a better actor so his scenes felt natural despite the ‘technique’. I agree the second half was better.

I think the pub being empty was actually the point this time, the evening was supposed to have gone wrong for Eva. Eva was never my favourite character by any means but at least she is ‘proper Corrie’ and it works well having a family running the Rovers, it feels much more like the heart of the show.

In Swain-heavy episodes I fast forward through those scenes, it’s just a loop of Becky snarling evilly so there isn’t anything to miss. So I get through it in about 35 minutes and enjoy it.

ilovebrie8 · 13/11/2025 10:42

Last night's episode was dreadful! Shona talking it was just irritating and didn't work... and she can't act. Gave up after a few mins of listening to her talk I hate hat type of thing and she couldn't carry it.

Fed up of the new Rovers family already...didn't like Eva first time around and her laughing is grating! Hope they don't keep them for long...Debbie and Ronnie should be behind the bar.

Beeinalily · 13/11/2025 11:01

I would love that.

It is not easy to do those internal monologues, it needs a subtle bit distinctive change in tone. The thoughts were also a bit Cliched.

I quite like it when they try new ideas but this did not really work

Shellingbynight · 13/11/2025 14:14

@zanahoria At least it wasn't yet another pointless flashback. I liked the idea because it did have a character-led purpose, but showing it first from Shona's POV showed up the weaknesses unfortunately. David could convince me of more or less anything so his section worked okay.

I'm grateful for anything that does not involve the police station and the Swains. Or Todd's awful boyfriend whose name I have wiped from my memory.

ajandjjmum · 13/11/2025 14:34

I thought it was a great episode. Makes you realise what a 'no win' the writers are on, when we have different opinions on here! Grin

SabreIsMyFave · 13/11/2025 12:35

OMG yes! 😜

Who's Penn Badgley?

Middlemarch123 · 13/11/2025 19:53

I actually enjoyed the internal monologue bits, and I thought they were well done, I thought the way Shona reacted to having a girl was sweet, she’s the one carrying the baby, the bond is already strong for her. I liked how David saw the bigger picture and how he’s terrified of losing her. It seemed poignant and realistic. They adore each other. Currently I’m liking new Corrie, it’s nuanced and there’s enough humour sometimes to balance the sadness. I’m hoping it’s on the up.

Empress13 · 14/11/2025 06:18

HaddyAbrams · 13/11/2025 15:47

Who's Penn Badgley?

He’s the actor in You was also in Gossip Girl very easy on the eye

Empress13 · 14/11/2025 06:24

Shona never mentions her son in prison which is weird. I’m guessing the fact she knows the sex of baby makes it more real to her and she’s in denial about what could go wrong plus she has had a brain injury though it’s never discussed which you would think the docs would have discussed with her ? As in true Corrie fashion things are forgotten like brain injuries, kids, murders etc!

HurdyGurdy19 · 14/11/2025 08:09

I thought it was interesting to see from David's point of view, when he mentioned that Kylie only crossed the road, and died.

He's obviously terrified of losing another wife in tragic circumstances, which will be why he's likely to want to terminate the pregnancy.

Shellingbynight · 14/11/2025 08:24

I thought that was a nice mention of Kylie, it's good when writers bother to remember history.

But I agree @Empress13 in a soap they generally recover very quickly from their serious ailments. Nick had a serious head injury too (before Shona). I'm surprised Tyrone is still in a wheelchair (does he wee in a bucket?)

AmusedMaker · 14/11/2025 08:33

It’s funny, because although it’s not real ( obviously 😀 ) I warm to some characters a lot more than others, maybe because they’re just better actors, or because I just like them for no particular reason - but I’ve never taken to Shona at all. Not sure why, just don’t like her much. So her current storyline isn’t grabbing me.
