ITV has revealed new first-look images of its buzzy upcoming TV (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/tv-reviews/g31986791/best-tv-shows/) drama, The Hack – and it looks like a show you're not going to want to miss.

Produced by the team behind Mr Bates vs The Post Office, thisnew series stars David Tennant as real-life investigative journalist Nick Davies, who uncovered phone hacking at Rupert Murdoch's News of the World, leading to the newspaper's closure.

Here's everything we know about The Hack so far, including a glimpse at the all-star cast and the latest news on the release date.

The Hack's stellar cast includes David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch, Rivals), Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty, Trainspotting), Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Harry Potter) and Eve Myles (The Crow Girl, Broadchurch).

Supporting roles also include Katherine Kelly (The Crow Girl, Protection, In Flight), Kevin Doyle (Line of Duty), Lara Pulver (Spooks), Adrian Lester (The Sandman)and Rose Leslie (Miss Austen). Judging by the calibre this show has attracted, we're in for a real treat.

First-look pictures of The Hack show a grey-haired David Tennant in his leading role as investigative journalist Nick Davies, alongside Toby Jones as former Editor-in Chief of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger. This casting feels spot-on.

The Hack: Plot

Diving into the world of phone hacking, The Hack follows the story of journalist Nick Davies as he uncovers evidence of phone hacking at the News of the World, while also exploring the still-unsolved 1987 murder case of private investigator Daniel Morgan.

It has been written by Bafta-, Tony- and Olivier-award-winning screenwriter, Jack Thorne, known for Adolescence and Toxic Town.

ITV says: 'Set between 2002 and 2012, the drama deftly interweaves two real life stories, the work of investigative journalist Nick Davies, played by David Tennant, who uncovered evidence of phone hacking at the News of the World, and running parallel, the story of the investigation into the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan, led by former Met Police Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook, played by Robert Carlyle.

Toby Jones plays former Editor-in Chief of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger.'

Investigations conducted proved that the now defunct newspaper hacked the voicemails of celebrities, politicians, and members of the British royal family (https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/all-about/royal-family) for stories.
