if you enjoyed the post office , you will enjoy this as another true life drama /conspiracy

7 episodes

ITV has revealed new first-look images of its buzzy upcoming TV (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/tv-reviews/g31986791/best-tv-shows/) drama, The Hack – and it looks like a show you're not going to want to miss.

Produced by the team behind Mr Bates vs The Post Office, thisnew series stars David Tennant as real-life investigative journalist Nick Davies, who uncovered phone hacking at Rupert Murdoch's News of the World, leading to the newspaper's closure.

Here's everything we know about The Hack so far, including a glimpse at the all-star cast and the latest news on the release date.

The Hack's stellar cast includes David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch, Rivals), Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty, Trainspotting), Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Harry Potter) and Eve Myles (The Crow Girl, Broadchurch).

Supporting roles also include Katherine Kelly (The Crow Girl, Protection, In Flight), Kevin Doyle (Line of Duty), Lara Pulver (Spooks), Adrian Lester (The Sandman)and Rose Leslie (Miss Austen). Judging by the calibre this show has attracted, we're in for a real treat.

First-look pictures of The Hack show a grey-haired David Tennant in his leading role as investigative journalist Nick Davies, alongside Toby Jones as former Editor-in Chief of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger. This casting feels spot-on.

The Hack: Plot

Diving into the world of phone hacking, The Hack follows the story of journalist Nick Davies as he uncovers evidence of phone hacking at the News of the World, while also exploring the still-unsolved 1987 murder case of private investigator Daniel Morgan.

It has been written by Bafta-, Tony- and Olivier-award-winning screenwriter, Jack Thorne, known for Adolescence and Toxic Town.

ITV says: 'Set between 2002 and 2012, the drama deftly interweaves two real life stories, the work of investigative journalist Nick Davies, played by David Tennant, who uncovered evidence of phone hacking at the News of the World, and running parallel, the story of the investigation into the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan, led by former Met Police Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook, played by Robert Carlyle.

Toby Jones plays former Editor-in Chief of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger.'

Investigations conducted proved that the now defunct newspaper hacked the voicemails of celebrities, politicians, and members of the British royal family (https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/all-about/royal-family) for stories.

I agree it would be better shown 3 days in a row over 2 weeks so don’t forget the plot

I did wonder if we were going to see DT today but then he turned up

obv the 2 cases will merge /mix together

must be awful to never know - Daniel’s Morgan’s poor family

Did I miss the first one?

Came looking for a thread.

so tonight’s episode was set in 2002? It was such a simpler time. Your ex directory etc.

Im also a thread whore. Like to see a range of opinions but I like tv pace.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2025 14:30

As predicted, hardly any posts on this. Anyone still watching?

Oneearringlost · 07/10/2025 07:33

I quite enjoyed E1 ( not the fourth wall element, so much), but fell asleep during E2 last night. Too many names to keep up with. But enjoying all the famous faces.
I LOVE BLONDE'S THREADS!

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/10/2025 20:39

Same as me. It does interest me but equally over a week seems a long time

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/10/2025 14:28

E4 tonight

I’m not sure I’m going to watch as Linda lost the plot /feel of it over the weeks

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/10/2025 14:57

despairofbadscience · 18/10/2025 08:39

I get the impression there are alot of famous faces as everyone thought this would be the next “mr bates vs the post office”.

mum2jakie · 18/10/2025 08:46

I haven't started watching this series yet. Is the general consensus that I needn't bother?

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2025 08:49

I think if you binge - did I actually say that 🙀🙀😂😂

you will enjoy it more

i liked e1&2

by the time 3 came I was forgetting plot. 4 was this week I think and I haven’t seen yet

if you have 7 spare hours and watch in one go prob be ok

plus need someone to tell me the ending

or may just watch e7 when it’s on

Oh dear this isn't going the way I'd hoped 😅

I'm only on ep 2 and wondering why the protagonist here isn't doing pieces to camera like DT did in the first episode! As a series it feels fairly uncoordinated.

I want to persevere as I want to see all the cast! Not sure my partner will stick with it or not
