if you enjoyed the post office , you will enjoy this as another true life drama /conspiracy

7 episodes

ITV has revealed new first-look images of its buzzy upcoming TV (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/tv-reviews/g31986791/best-tv-shows/) drama, The Hack – and it looks like a show you're not going to want to miss.

Produced by the team behind Mr Bates vs The Post Office, thisnew series stars David Tennant as real-life investigative journalist Nick Davies, who uncovered phone hacking at Rupert Murdoch's News of the World, leading to the newspaper's closure.

Here's everything we know about The Hack so far, including a glimpse at the all-star cast and the latest news on the release date.

The Hack's stellar cast includes David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch, Rivals), Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty, Trainspotting), Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Harry Potter) and Eve Myles (The Crow Girl, Broadchurch).

Supporting roles also include Katherine Kelly (The Crow Girl, Protection, In Flight), Kevin Doyle (Line of Duty), Lara Pulver (Spooks), Adrian Lester (The Sandman)and Rose Leslie (Miss Austen). Judging by the calibre this show has attracted, we're in for a real treat.

First-look pictures of The Hack show a grey-haired David Tennant in his leading role as investigative journalist Nick Davies, alongside Toby Jones as former Editor-in Chief of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger. This casting feels spot-on.

The Hack: Plot

Diving into the world of phone hacking, The Hack follows the story of journalist Nick Davies as he uncovers evidence of phone hacking at the News of the World, while also exploring the still-unsolved 1987 murder case of private investigator Daniel Morgan.

It has been written by Bafta-, Tony- and Olivier-award-winning screenwriter, Jack Thorne, known for Adolescence and Toxic Town.

ITV says: 'Set between 2002 and 2012, the drama deftly interweaves two real life stories, the work of investigative journalist Nick Davies, played by David Tennant, who uncovered evidence of phone hacking at the News of the World, and running parallel, the story of the investigation into the unsolved murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan, led by former Met Police Detective Chief Superintendent Dave Cook, played by Robert Carlyle.

Toby Jones plays former Editor-in Chief of The Guardian, Alan Rusbridger.'

Investigations conducted proved that the now defunct newspaper hacked the voicemails of celebrities, politicians, and members of the British royal family (https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/all-about/royal-family) for stories.

You are already binging and hadn’t even started on itv 🙀🙀🙀🙀

shame on you @snemrose😛😛😛😂😂😂

Sorry 🙈 on episode 4 already. But I still love reading these threads to get opinions etc and there is often something I miss! Oh and I don’t pay for any extras - just bog standard stream in ITVX with all the ads

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/09/2025 13:49

I think it will be very good
has an amazing cast

many well known names

I love Adrian lester 😍

I love Adrian Lester too. I rewatch Hustle regularly just for him 😍
Damn - am I becoming a non lurking poster on your tv threads?! 😱 It can’t continue or I will have to stop bingeing! 🤣

I am a non posting lurker!
I always look out for your threads @Blondeshavemorefunas they introduce me to programs I may not have tried. The CAPITALS help me find your threads 😜
I always binge (as I am currently doing with The Hack) but I enjoy reading your threads to see what you lot think.

Edited

Came here to say exactly this. I can’t keep up with all the new profs and due to disability spend a lot of home alone and bored, these threads make it easy for me to see at a glance the sort of telly I enjoy
have been on mumsnet for around 17 years and there’s always been duplicate posts on here about various shows, some are tv paced, some aren’t, some posted by people who didn’t realise there’s another thread etc etc who cares?

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/09/2025 21:28

I love the way he speaks to the camera

annika did that as well

some don’t like but I do

I’m enjoying it so far. I love things based on true stories. I don’t like David Tennant either though, especially since his dreadful performance in The Thursday Murder Club!

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/09/2025 22:03

I haven’t seen that yet but heard he wasn’t fab in it

i did enjoy this tho

I love David Tennant. I love @Blondeshavemorefun threads. I like the capital letters because I like to follow them all. I'm looking forward to this.

daffodilandtulip · 25/09/2025 08:40

Now realised it's Thursday. Will catch up after work 😂

Agree apart from the fact I don't love David Tennant but I do like him in most things ! I hear that he is a lovely man in real life.

We can choose whether to follow a thread or not. I value the information @Blondeshavemorefun provides and the positive comments on the threads I follow. We are here on this thread to discuss a TV programme and give our opinions on that. TV led with NO SPOILERS 😍
I watched episode 1 but found it hard to get into
Happy Thursday everyone 🍁🌞🍁

I can’t believe people can be bothered to have these petty arguments on an internet forum!
I actually have to admit to finding the first episode a bit boring. I usually binge and I did not go straight onto the next. I will keep going tho

Agree in that I found that the first episode a bit boring.
Re the other issue - in my opinion it wasn't an argument. The majority of comments were responding to one person complaining about this thread being started when another one already existed and then complaining about the use of capital letters. Hopefully things will return to normal and anyone not liking the thread can follow the other one. My comment is meant in a polite and respectful manner to everyone as I believe life is too short for petty arguments 💐💐💐

Zingy123 · 24/09/2025 06:11

I agree with @IwantToRetire their thread was only a few posts down so no need to create a new thread.

Also I don't like the capitals. It would be more polite to put no spoilers please instead of NO SPOILERS.

Have to agree. The thread by @IwantToRetire was on the first page on Telly Addicts, which was easy to see, so there was just no need to start another thread. I said this before on another thread about a TV show.

I also don't like the caps, feels a bit OTT and garish.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2025 15:43

Those who don’t like caps /tv paced then can post on the other thread

there really isn’t a need to argue over it

as I’ve said I don’t want to start reading a thread and see future storylines on it so I do one tv paced

people can read or reply on either or neither 😀

OP posts:
paranoidnamechanger · 25/09/2025 16:36

I doubt this or the other thread will get many posts anyway since the Hack is really boring so far. Who at ITV thought seven episodes of this would be a good idea? The story just isn't strong enough. And having to sit through shitty ads?

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2025 19:38

I like the hack. I enjoyed last nights

excellent cast in it

OP posts:
lazymum99 · 25/09/2025 20:28

It has got a really good cast and is well acted. But i don’t care enough about the story. Nothing like the post office scandal where the people affected were just normal hard working people.
This was something that shouldn’t have happened and broke the law but affected all these famous people and I can't get particularly het up about it I’m afraid.

TheCatsBlanket · 25/09/2025 22:03

Also a long time lurker, and I look forward to @Blondeshavemorefun posts. And personally I love the ‘NO SPOILERS’ in shouty letters.

But it really wasn't just famous people affected. However, I won't say any more, in the spirit of the thread.

I actually posted on the other thread too, but I'm a thread whore and I'll respond to anyone/everyone 😂

I have nearly watched all of it and as I said on the other thread, I absolutely loved it. Fab cast, and I also enjoyed the cameos of some of the real life victims, too. I found it fast paced, witty and involving. it was nice to have a series which treated the viewer as an adult and able to follow some complex plot ideas. Loved the surrealism, although I accept it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/10/2025 15:30

@neveradmit17a thread whore. Pmsl. Love it

anyone is welcome

just no spoilers if seen them all 😘

LidlAmaretto · 01/10/2025 20:20

I've only just started watching this. So far a bit boring and I'm just getting used to the 4th wall stuff, but then some backstory was added in about Nicks mother beating him and his ex wife and kids etc and a beetle rolling a ball of dung in the road. And the bad cheap wigs are a bit distracting to say the least! Im presuming DT's hair without the bad dye would look like that!
