With Alexander Armstrong (the voice of Hey Duggee!) and Caroline Quentin, first aired in 2006 I think

All three seasons are now on Netflix

It might be my winter watch, very much up my street

Did anyone catch it the first time around?

I had forgotten that AA was also an actor ! He is an all rounder isn’t he !
I like how it cracks on with the story ; it’s fast paced and easy watching.

the80sweregreat · 19/10/2025 20:40

I loved how she bagged that job ! The prices of the holidays too .. different times !

Overandone · 20/10/2025 21:41

The holiday prices were a shocker! Shows how much everything has gone up. I didn’t really like Phil at all. I really liked Paul 😕

I thought it was interesting that there’s still a lot of women carrying a lot more than men and how we’d not moved quite so far given when it was filmed.

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2025 06:51

I’m on series two now! It’s so watchable and I don’t know why I missed it the first time around.

I like Paul too. Not sure why , but he seems to have spirit and not a loser like Phil is.

WoahThreeAces · 21/10/2025 13:50

I'm burning through this as an easy watch but goodness me Phil is just awful isn't he!
I've just started series 3 so I am looking forward to seeing how bad this series is 😂
I am enjoying it but some of the acting is terrible...

the80sweregreat · 21/10/2025 13:55

Spoilers below

Maggie and Paul’s acting isn’t too bad , but the ones in the travel agents are not great. I think the children are ok. I can’t believe she wants Phil back just as the other man has moved his awful chair in and so much of his belongings. Although so far they have only kissed , but she looks tempted by her ex! I guess that by series three she’ll be in a dilemma about both men.

Dunno why that posted so many times !

the80sweregreat · 22/10/2025 16:16

Series 3 isn’t as bad as I thought it might be. I miss her old neighbours and Samantha though and what became of her old friends ? No sign of them ;(

WoahThreeAces · 24/10/2025 10:49

Well the ending was super disappointing IMO. Wrapped up as a happy ending but Maggie just completely shafted by it all. Meh.

mondaytosunday · 24/10/2025 10:55

Oh trying to avoid the spoilers! This keeps coming up in suggested watch and I’ve been intrigued as I do quite like Caroline (she is now popping up on my FB feed with her gardening tips, looking older than her years but it’s shot in full sun no make up etc so fair enough). Anyway I’ll actually watch it now.

the80sweregreat · 24/10/2025 17:43

I enjoyed it all. I vaguely remember watching one of the episodes once first time around , but I must have given up on it for some reason ? Not sure why.
It’s just feel good viewing and funny sometimes

I remember watching the first episode with my other half, two days before he announced out of the blue he was leaving me and our baby. Couldnt watch the test at the time, too close to home, will give it a try again 😊

Hope you are ok now x

awkwardasfuck · 26/10/2025 22:35

I was 14 when this came out so understandably wasn't interested

Im torn between appreciating the story and acting of some seasoned actors vs the jaw dropping seximsz ageism and gender role entrenched abuse

I will watch to the end im on season 3

Iamafaithfull · 26/10/2025 22:54

I watched this first time round and rewatched again on Netflix .I found it funny the second time round , although some parts were dated . Unfortunately by the time it came to my second watch , the subject was very relatable to me …

It does have a good cast , but agree some wooden acting as well .
I do like AA , but his character in this was so annoying and a bit of a wimp . I much preferred Paul too .
Someone else mentioned Last Tango in Halifax . That is far superior, with some amazing acting/ actors . It is probably more of a drama than Life Begins . If you haven’t already watch it I would really recommend it .

JLR841 · 04/11/2025 22:03

I missed it the first time, I would have been around 18/19, so busy going out several nights a week rather than watching telly. I'm just here to agree, Phil is suuuuchhh a PRICK! Oh and yes, Paul is hot.

WhyDoesItAlways · 02/02/2026 00:16

I've just started this having popped up on netflix. I saw series 1 first time around when I was about 18 and remember really wanting to work in a travel agents!

Im enjoying it this time around for the nostalgia. CQ was walking down the high street in season 1 and I spied a going places shop, the link (think it was a mobile phone shop) and then i practically got giddy when past times popped up. I'd love to shop there again.
