Can anyone recommend any crime/thriller dramas?

No Australian shows please and nothing gratuitously graphic but other than that anything goes including any shows that are subtitled and old shows.

I’d appreciate any recommendations as this isn’t a genre that I’ve really explored.

TIA

We’ve just started watching Bosch. We are really enjoying the first season and there are about 7 seasons, I think. It ran from 2014-2021. The lead character was in an episode of a recent series called Ballard, which was quite good, so that’s what lead us to going back to the original series.

We're moving this thread to our Telly Addicts topic for the OP.

Thank you so much, Dawn. I appreciate it.

I like the British oldies like prime suspect, waking the dead, rebus and tagart. most probably on I player

Ihaveoflate · 17/09/2025 19:38

I know you said not Australian but The Gone (NZ) is brilliant. There are 2 series on the iPlayer.

Bsmirched · 17/09/2025 19:46

Cardinal is great. It's a Canadian drama, with 4 series. It's available to stream for free on U.

hattie43 · 17/09/2025 19:51

i really enjoyed these

Channel 4 next to ITV+ on freeview in this order
Vanished by the Lake
Killed by the Lake
Fear by the Lake .
They are subtitled but you soon forget about that , very good IMO. Also Darkness I’ve just started and has Douglas Henshall in

I've just started (re) watching Dr Foster on iplayer. Not a thriller really but a very good drama with Suranne Jones. Can recommend.

Violetparis · 17/09/2025 19:56

Endeavour
Inspecter George Gentley
State of Play (political thriller with John Simm)
Line of Duty

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 17/09/2025 19:57

The Strike series may be able to get it on iplayer

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 17/09/2025 19:58

Am I really the first to suggest Spiral? In French, with subtitles, but it's totally absorbing. Called Engrenages in French.

celandiney · 17/09/2025 20:00

Slow Horses.
So good! ( stressful and I had to concentrate to keep up but so good)

olivehater · 17/09/2025 20:01

unforgotten
line of duty
annika
dept Q

Laiste · 17/09/2025 20:11

Just watched The Guest on BBC i player.

Its got crime in it... It's a strange twisty tale and i was riveted for the 4 episodes.

Pieceofpurplesky · 17/09/2025 20:13

Dept Q is brilliant and I am not a crime fan.

MusicalCarbuncle · 17/09/2025 20:17

If you’ve somehow managed to dodge Happy Valley … can’t recommend it strongly enough. There was a reason it was so popular.

yipyipyip · 17/09/2025 20:40

I noticed The Serpent is available on Netflix, originally BBC i think. Definitely worth a watch x

Iloveeverycat · 17/09/2025 20:57

Prime suspect. Helen mirren is brilliant in it. On ITV X

MusicalCarbuncle · 17/09/2025 21:01

I also really enjoyed The Trial on Netflix - Italian courtroom drama, very cleverly done and the TV equivalent of a page turner.

Iloveeverycat · 17/09/2025 21:05

Wire in the blood. Robson Green
Cracker. Robbie coltrane
On ITVX

ButterPiesAreGreat · 18/09/2025 11:53

The Day (De Dag) on Channel 4 streaming is brilliant. In Flemish with subtitles. I watched this years ago hidden away on Virgin Boxsets but was so happy when Walter Presents acquired it. Watched it again last week and it's still as good.

I watched something called Anonymous (Anoniem) on Prime over the last couple of nights . It's Dutch. A lot of action and you have to keep your wits about you, as it has a lot of flashbacks and dream sequences, but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

squashyhat · 18/09/2025 11:59

Annika is quite good if you can get over the device of her regularly chatting to the camera. I found it a bit irritating.

Fallleaves · 18/09/2025 12:01

I love the genre of tv, I would recommend

  • blue lights two seasons, season 3 coming soon
  • Shetland (may have been listed)
  • line of duty again a popular one
  • criminal minds (may be too graphic in some parts) but a brilliant show
  • Ridley

there are so many but off the top of my head some of my favourites

looking for another to get into now
