I’m in the “anyone but Austria” camp this evening.

Another one here who likes the UK entry! I think it’s fun and the harmonies are great. I don’t think it will win but it would be nice to finish on the left hand side of the table.

I like it too and it doesn't deserve to come last by any stretch. I think the staging has let it down though.

I’m in the “anyone but Austria” camp this evening.

I’m admittedly a bit late to the party, but have done a mega quick YouTube dive into all the entries, is Austria the one with the guy on a boat, with an amazing opera like voice?
we’re having crisps, nibbles and wine……lots of wine (French and Italian )
Sweden is fun, think I’ve missed Finnish entry so must go and listen to that

Just joining to say how much I've enjoyed reading the threads on the semi-finals this year (and last year's final threads!)

You may enjoy this tweet from the royal family this morning Grin

I'm loving all the themed menus for this evening! DD and I hit all the international shops in our small town yesterday, so we're having a full-on (very expensive Blush) buffet with food from all 26 countries. It will make for some very odd combinations, so I hope it's worth it!

Completely fab. Although... Band of the Irish Guards? Bad luck Laika.

I once managed to end up in Austria despite being on a direct flight from Cyprus to the UK. The runway at Vienna is not an exciting place to spend a couple of hours sitting on a plane.

JaneJeffer · 17/05/2025 19:08

I’m low on snacks. Just polished off the Polish biscuits (see what I did there). Will have to also go Mexican and have some nachos.

Yes. That’s Austria. I really dislike both the song and the staging. I’d be happy with any of Sweden, France, Finland. I really like Albania this year.

I think you have an obligation to post what you’re having from each country!

Right then <clears throat>

NORWAY Gjetost (sweet, brown cheese)
LUXEMBOURG Potato salad (there is a Wiki page about the cuisine of Luxembourg, but I didn't fancy jugged hare or liver dumplings, so potatoes it was)
ESTONIA Kama (powder made from grains/legumes)
ISRAEL Falafels and houmous
LITHUANIA Rye bread and Funny Mushroom biscuits
SPAIN Watermelon (the label said it was grown in Spain!) and a Waitrose tapas selection
UKRAINE Garlic-flavoured rye chipa
UNITED KINGDOM Farmhouse Lancashire cheese
AUSTRIA Viennese whirls (thank you, Mr Kipling Grin)
ICELAND Skyr
LATVIA Some wafers I found in the local Lithuanian shop (source of all the Baltic food)
NETHERLANDS Massive wedge of Old Amsterdam cheese
FINLAND Finn Crisp (rye crisp breads)
ITALY Crosta & Mollica Bolli crackers (which are honestly like crack to me) and some Noccelara olives (ditto)
POLAND Mushroom-flavoured cream cheese
GERMANY Pumpernickel bread and a Ritter Sport bar
GREECE Spanakopita
ARMENIA Some walnut and rose biscuits that I found in a Bulgarian shop
SWITZERLAND Kaltbach cheese and Milks chocolate
MALTA Erm, a bag of Malteasers
PORTUGAL Tin of sardines (kicking myself for not thinking of custard tarts until much later)
DENMARK Lurpak Grin (but we don't eat meat, so can't have bacon, and it will be useful for the crackers, maybe...?)
SWEDEN Gifflar cinnamon rolls
FRANCE Brie and Comté cheeses (yes, there's a lot of cheese)
SAN MARINO Marinated artichokes (tbh, I'm not sure that they really have them in San Marino, but SM is practically Italian anyway, and "marinated" sounds a bit like "Marino", so...)
ALBANIA Ajvar red pepper paste

Hmm, that does sound a bit mad now I've written it all down Confused

Ohhh nooo brain is muddled !!

I didn't watch DW last week 😔.
Now I seem to have to watch it 😂.

Now it.makes sense why the wanted NC to do the votes.

They should have replaced him with Rylan !!

GreenApplesRedApplesYellowApples · 17/05/2025 19:14

I like to be surprised on the day so I have seen none of the entries including our own. I hope it's an improvement on last years...

user1471427667 · 17/05/2025 19:16

I get sidetracked by how brilliant peoples voices are and it’s not really about that is it. In awe of his voice (Austria).
like Sweden and can see it being popular. France was good, but then I love the language so could listen to that all day! On first watch I wasn’t that keen on Finland, seemed a bit dated but maybe it’s a ‘grower’
Albania? I need to go and find that as think I’ve missed that one!

Raahh · 17/05/2025 19:17

Billy Joel

Interesting.

AI reckons: "Yes, the UK's Eurovision song, "What the Hell Just Happened," has been compared to Billy Joel's "My Life" due to its similar musical structure, specifically the double-time groove. The BBC reports that the song explodes into a baroque rock opera before transitioning into a double-time groove that recalls both Laura Branigan's "Gloria" and Billy Joel's "My Life".

I'm musically ignorant so if the tune isn't similar I'm lost. What's a double-time groove?
