New series starting next week - really looking forward to it. The teams are travelling in Asia, but I can't find information about the couples yet. Wednesday nights sorted!

India is notoriously cheap though so they won’t get through much. I’m more interested in what they are eating. You never see them spend on food or sit down in a cafe. I also think that they are pampered at each check point hotel I bet they have cocktails and everything. A good swim in the pool to stretch themselves out and laundry done. It does seem easier the more each season goes on.

EachandEveryone · 23/05/2025 09:54

Not that I would ever do it the buses are enough to put me off 😀

I read an interview with Fin and Sioned and they said Fin's diabetes was a real issue to start with as he uses a phone app to regulate it, but they had to do it manually. Apparently it became easier as the trip went on.

I would have liked to have seen some of that covered!

TwentyKittens · 23/05/2025 10:02

Also in that interview Sioned said she's changed her mind about wanting marriage and children really soon, realising through doing the show that it's not the be all and end all and that there's so much more to life that they can do first. In reply, Fin says, "Phew!"

Just placemarking as I have finally caught up! Nothing more to add, other than I agree with what everyone is saying about the backstories.

Not that I would ever do it the buses are enough to put me off 😀

I was once travelling on a rather basic bus in Rajasthan with bars for windows. The woman in front of me became travel sick and vomited out of the window. The wind resistance meant that it flew back into the bus just at an angle to hit me on the face.

Brugmansia · 23/05/2025 15:37

I'd assumed maybe they've worked less as there were probably more restrictions in China on what they could do.

Oldglasses · 23/05/2025 15:44

Watched it on catch up last night. Felt so bad for Sioned, I would have felt similarly and said to DH I am never doing India unless we are on an organised tour (( have a couple of friends who have done this and everything is sorted for you and that is the only way I could cope).
Having said that, the food looked amazing in that home stay! I was salivating.
I think the Mum and son are going to win it now. They've got in to their stride.

853ax · 23/05/2025 15:49

The brothers have lost weight and with Fin diabetes they could have put in more details about how when they eat.
Previously contestants would have packed themselves lunches. Remember last year the woman wanting to buy ice cream.
For diabetic travelers having information about the ease of getting food when needed, budget, time taken would be better to know other then repetitive stories
I want to brothers to win as they seem to be getting the most out of it, having fun, experiencing what is around them at the same time competing

jay55 · 23/05/2025 16:42

Fin’s diabetes could be a reason they’ve done hotel stays rather than cheaper options as he’s going to have more worries about hygiene.
Agree there are so many interesting things that could have been covered.

CaptainMyCaptain · 23/05/2025 17:27

I think I want the brothers to win now. I took an instant dislike in the beginning but had changed my mind by the end of the first episode.

Blimeyblighty · 23/05/2025 18:20

Fin said on TikTok that he reckons 10% of their budget went on sugar for his diabetes.

don’t get Caroline at all - Tom seems to be her only child, away at boarding school - horses are a big hobby but everyone I know at our livery yard has a job alongside them… I dunno, just think she had more agency in creating this life where she just looked after a house with (most of the time) one other adult in it than she makes it sound?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 23/05/2025 19:26

i read caroline had 4 children

RaraRachael · 23/05/2025 19:31

I got the impression Tom was an only child as I seem to remember Caroline talking about "You, mummy and daddy"

QuackADoodleDoooo · 23/05/2025 22:12

Part of my ritual of watching RATW is reading this thread afterwards and hearing what everyone has to say about each episode. But I've noticed that this thread is now getting as boring as the programme! All everyone (including myself) is doing is complaining about the back stories. Let's instead talk about all the interesting bits and try to ignore the droning on of losing childhood homes and being a SAHM. Like a PP said, I actually couldn't care less about their lives anymore. The only reason I'm still watching the programme is to see the scenery and watch how they navigate the race. The rest is just noise.

Bruisername · 23/05/2025 22:22

DS and I watch this together and think there’s been a real shift this time to more ‘vox pop’ about their issues and also we don’t see them all get to the check point each week. That was less usual in previous series. Then the next episode has a chunk taken up with arriving/leaving. There’s been a few times where one team is struggling to get to the next place but then they just pop up there. Like Fin and Sioned getting stuck because of the tuktuk taking them to the wrong place but we didn’t find out where they stayed or how they got themselves out of there. They just suddenly turned up at their home stay.

DS really likes Fin but thinks it’s too tough for them to win now. We liked the siblings but getting a bit bored of the sisters losing their house/not understanding each other.

I don’t recall there being such massive differences in arrival times in previous series either. I feel it would be better if they limited it - especially if caused by a typhoon! There was no jeopardy in the kicking out episode because they had no chance

TheyNotLikeUs · 23/05/2025 22:22

Just caught up. I like how people reacted differently, the mum all gung-ho and Sioned overwhelmed.

I do not like the way the elder sister speaks to the younger.

Warming to the brothers for talking about their feelings and Fin for being sympathetic to Sioned. I did not like those three at the beginning!

TwentyKittens · 23/05/2025 22:27

Fin said on TikTok that he reckons 10% of their budget went on sugar for his diabetes.

Would have been interesting to show this even if it was once! And it explains why they have a lot less money left than the others.

TwentyKittens · 23/05/2025 22:28

RaraRachael · 23/05/2025 19:31

She introduces him in episode 1 as her only son.

But like you I remember her just speaking about the three of them, with no reference to other children.

This doesn’t seem fair if so.

TwentyKittens · 23/05/2025 22:47

I googled Caroline to see if there were any RATW related interviews where she mentions other children.

I think we've been well and truly hoodwinked. She's been eventing since at least the late 90s and their home is also an equestrian centre!

Housewife my elbow!

(Not providing links, but info is freely available in the public domain)

Bruisername · 23/05/2025 23:04

That’s interesting. My DS is clearly more perceptive than me because he finds her untrustworthy!!

it can be hard being a sahm for a long time but it sounds like she has been able to pursue a hobby (expensive one!) and she seems quite out of touch

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/05/2025 05:01

her home may be an equestrian centre but it doesnt mean she doesnt do anything for herself

SabrinaThwaite · 24/05/2025 06:18

Whoarethoseguys · 22/05/2025 18:03

I think he is the only one because at one point she said something about her whole life being about supporting thomas and her husband. She didn't mention any other children

She has said in a newspaper article that she had a career before she got married. She’s been running a business with her husband for years though.

People post here about the things that interest them. Sorry if you find it boring.
