Couldn’t see a thread. Will be watching tonight. Trailer looks awesome and apparently Charlie Brooke has done his first ever sequel to an episode with a continuation of USS Callister.

Reporting back ce soir!

Placemark - will watch over coming days

IPartridge · 11/04/2025 09:03

I've watched Common People. Funny, ironic and sad.

OrchardDoor · 11/04/2025 14:06

I've not watched them in the right order but I watched Eulogy and Bête Noire. I loved both of them.

Wishyouwerehere50 · 11/04/2025 14:18

Yes! I was going to start a thread.

I'm really really keen to debate this. I've binge watched already. Absolutely fantastic. I loved it.

I really enjoyed considering all the points each episode made as reflections on societal issues right now.

I absolutely loved ' Plaything'. My favourite.

The reflections in this series are so impactful and terrifying in their accuracy regards what's going on in the world, things we talk about on here ( AI for example).

I won't give away any spoilers. Fantastic cast appearances. Love it. Love it.

I spend alot of time watching YouTube. I noticed the proliferation of adverts has gradually intensified to the point I find myself repeating them sometimes.

I watched this one and thought, yep.

I am conscious not to discuss too much until people here have watched them all.

cunoyerjudowel · 11/04/2025 20:08

Common people seems so relevant

Yeah you can really see it happening

cunoyerjudowel · 11/04/2025 20:13

Really makes you thankful for the nhs even in its current state

I watched it properly again and was linking what I thought to be relevant messages. We can see all these things becoming reality and elements already are.

In common people, when they talk about the low level members losing hours of their life through sleep mode in order to fuel provision for the top end Lux members ( through their sleep time), I thought, well that's a direct reflection of society right now!

IPartridge · 11/04/2025 22:32

Watched Bete Noire - quite good but not a classic.

SabreIsMyFave · 11/04/2025 22:38

Ooooh, placemarking! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Black Mirror! 😄

ladyflower23 · 12/04/2025 17:15

For those who've watched the whole of season 7 already do you think it's appropriate for a 13 year old? I know my DS would love Black Mirror but some of the stuff in it can be very dark. I'm still traumatised by the first ever episode when the PM was forced to have sex with a pig 🐖 He is very mature and I generally let him watch 15s.

I pondered the exact same thing.

I'd say no having watched it. Episode 1 is good yet there's a few sex scenes which would be uncomfortable. The things touched upon are a bit much. There's a really graphic scene in ' Plaything' with violence. The messages are fantastic but maybe a bit too dark at this age.

I'm quite open to making my own decisions on these things and flexible yet I thought no to this.

Wishyouwerehere50 · 12/04/2025 17:24

A few episodes aren't particularly violent yet the concepts are quite dark. So I think it wouldn't be terrible to watch bete noir, hotel reverie or the Callister one. A boy might not appreciate those too much.

Plaything was great but I'd think about the one pretty violent scene. I don't want to spoil it by telling you. The whole concept was particularly dark. I loved it.

Episode 1 (spoiler warning)

I thought this was brilliant and so well done, it's sold as being not expensive or free and then they upgrade you constantly (as a dating app user yup! I get it)

What I thought though was that the teacher /lady with the river mind implant would join as a pyramid scheme rep in the end, just like the lady that sold it to her. She's a teacher with great social skills I think what would really happen is she'd be recruited. Why wasn't she?! It's the obvious next step I'm surprised they didn't suggest it and have it ruled out tbh as it's so obvious.

I thought the same about the pyramid! Again not wanting spoilers but I thought she would recruit after someone else got injured, although it was a general physical injury not a brain one

Probably overthinking, ironically!

I’ve seen them all now, won’t give spoilers. Callister was my least favourite, I wasn’t really into the first episode of that either though.

Eulogy made me cry, I think because the 90s were when I was in my 20s and having a great time, and the thought that it’s so long ago and unreachable, and the sadness of past relationships. And the final scene.

EasternStandard · 13/04/2025 07:50

We’ve watched the first four. Really liked the fourth about the computer game, including the Scottish actor who got arrested, he’s great.

The one with the taste tester was good but I did wish the ending was different.

Pabbel · 13/04/2025 08:00

Fantastic series, thought Episode 1 was something that could happen in the not to distant future !

Oisonous · 13/04/2025 09:49

Episode 1 (spoilers)

I thought it was great! Made me so grateful that we don’t have the American healthcare system where the cost of essentials like diabetes medication increase in cost with little regulation and people who need it to survive can’t afford it or insurance companies denying medication or changing coverage. I thought it was going to go down the route of the lux package being like a drug that she became addicted to and wanted to only chase those lux minutes but I suppose that would have been one too many topic to cram in when it already touched on so many.

I didn’t quite follow the end when he went back in to the room with the webcam. If she was dead, why did he need to keep going with it? Or was it just that it became the only way for him to earn money and survive?

Edited

Plaything was my favourite! The actors are great and I love Will Poulter ( Colin the bleach blonde guy who designed the Throng programme -from Bandersnatch if anyone saw that). The Scottish guy was brilliant. The Scouse lad is also good. I thought all performances were brilliant.

I kept thinking about all the messages, it felt so relevant with the incel culture debate, artificial intelligence. It's believable and relatable on so many levels.

I found myself loving the little yellow thronglets' sounds. 🤦🤣.

I just love when they go back to the 80s or 90s. Such nostalgia.

It was so well done and very evocative. The Fools Gold drop was very nostalgic 🙏. Loved it. I really wish they'd made more of it though. Added some more depth to the storyline and gave it a dark twist possibly.

ThatAgileCoralBird · 13/04/2025 11:12

Good series.
watched them all.
avoid the rest of my post if you haven’t seen them all in case I’ve included what folk may think are spoilers.

Common People: very good episode. Very sad and had tears in my eyes.
Yeah heartbreaking if your life depended on a subscription. I thought both their employers should have been more sympathetic though. Young couple at the end, no self-awareness but that is typical of the majority of people.
I’d be surprised if we got the option of the treatment in the first place on our NHS.

bette noir: really enjoyed this episode. Clever and liked the ending.

hotel riviera; nice, clever and funny. same vein as san junipero, which I know lots of folk love but it’s not in my favourites.

plaything: again good clever episode. Liked the twist and always a joy to see Peter capaldi and Will poulter.

eulogy: love Paul giamati so was looking forward to this. Redemptive
and I was crying again!

uss callister; again a good episode which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Wishyouwerehere50 · 13/04/2025 11:29

Peter Capaldi! That's the guy. I was trying for days to remember without googling.

POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT EPISODE 1

I think he was doing something for the private buyer that he mentioned to her, to pay for the 30 mins of Lux, that I don't think he was going to survive, if you get my drift.
