Couldn’t see a thread. Will be watching tonight. Trailer looks awesome and apparently Charlie Brooke has done his first ever sequel to an episode with a continuation of USS Callister.

Reporting back ce soir!

Omg 🤣🤣. This is dangerous for me. I'd end up having conversations with them. I'm housebound most the time. 😄

POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT EPISODE 1

I think he was doing something for the private buyer that he mentioned to her, to pay for the 30 mins of Lux, that I don't think he was going to survive, if you get my drift.

episode one spoiler

I thought he sold the baby things for the Lux but I guess it’s not that clear!

I pondered the exact same thing.

I'd say no having watched it. Episode 1 is good yet there's a few sex scenes which would be uncomfortable. The things touched upon are a bit much. There's a really graphic scene in ' Plaything' with violence. The messages are fantastic but maybe a bit too dark at this age.

I'm quite open to making my own decisions on these things and flexible yet I thought no to this.

Thanks. I just watched the first one with DH and very glad I took your advice not to watch with DS! The sex scene would have been so awkward for all of us and I wouldn't have wanted to explain the things Chris O' Dowd was doing on the webcam!

I'm currently working my way through series 7. Brilliant casting and acting for all of them.

Common People - loved it! Loved the relationship between Amanda and Mike; his desperation to do anything for her; was so angry and on his side when he went into work on that morning (trying not to do spoilers but those who have seen it will know what I mean)

Bete Noire - enjoyed it, especially the first, unnerving changes to reality. I did keep reminding myself that the story is told from Maria's point of view so she is the character we empathise with. But at school, Maria was the bully and Verity was the victim. When Verity turns up, Maria dismisses her as having been the weird kid. She is now an adult but has no empathy and dismisses the bullying as "kids can be cruel". Still loved it apart from the last minute or 2 which seemed rushed.

Hotel Reverie - different feel from the first 2. Loved it. Very poignant at times, especially when difficult choices had to be made.

Plaything - should have worked out why Peter Capaldi wanted pen and paper but didn't. Had been prepared to be disappointed because I'd read a review that said it was the weakest episode and that he was underused - wasn't disappointed at all. Wished I'd rewatched Bandersnatch first to appreciate the call backs.

Looking forward to watching Eulogy and the USS Callister follow up

I loved it all!!

Habbyhadno · 13/04/2025 22:54

I’ve just finished the first two, Common People and Bete Noire.

Common People was ok, but I’m sure they could have asked for people to help with the payments, they also both have reasonable jobs and no kids, so they could probably afford $800 a month at a stretch. But ask work/family to help out or crowdfund. Also thought it would be logical for the teacher to work for Rivermind, as you’d probably get it free, or a discount. Would have made it less bleak, but I guess that was the point. I’d find it quite amusing if people started trotting out random ads.

Loved Bete Noire, was really satisfied with the ending.

Maybe I shouldn’t watch before bed as it’s made me feel paranoid, but looking forward to the next episodes.

FleaDog · 13/04/2025 23:19

I assumed Rivermind was such a slick tech product it didn't need to amass staff so she was never going to be approached to join the company. The clientele would be so desperate the income would remain a steady stream. Plus, as a couple they chalkenged tje upsell and the continual upgrading and system set up of providing energy to high end users and adverts, so they were not going to be converts of the product.

How do we know the woman they dealt with had really had it done? Strike while people are at their most vulnerable and they aren't going to ask too many thorough questions...

At the end I think it was going to be an act online that would be final... what did he have left?

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 13/04/2025 23:28

I actually loved every episode, a strong season.

I think Eulogy and Hotel Reverie were my favourite episodes. I think I’m a bit of a romantic at heart.

We know because at one point when the husband screamed at her she had to turn up her own nonchalance a lot

Siloportem · 14/04/2025 00:13

Big fan of the series, partway through this new lot. HATED the end of Bete Noire. Liked the rest of the episode.

I liked Plaything, Capaldi was great, I didn't realise it was him at first. Thought the cop was weirdly aggressive and not a very good detective, didn't seem interested in hearing what the suspect had to say or drawing him out at all.

The Rivermind episode was a good concept, but would it be that viable as a business concept? I don't know, are there that many people with "suitable" brain injuries? Wouldn't there be all sorts of legal challenges around changing the TOS like that when people are already signed up and dependent on the service? I know we're in Black Mirror world, so some suspension of disbelief required there.

cariadlet · 14/04/2025 02:57

I've just watched Eulogy.

No wonder people love it. It's the most moving thing I've watched in a long time. I don't often cry at TV or films but I'm sat here with tears running down my face.

PollyCreo · 14/04/2025 18:37

Bete Noire really bothered me, we all knew that geeky girl who got picked on. The actress reminded me of Rosamund Pike though?

She reminded me of Nicole Kidman.

lkfffjdksl · 14/04/2025 21:19

I thought the whole series was superb, peak Black Mirror.

Press that button!

I nodded off during Hotel Reverie, will have to go back to it.

EasternStandard · 14/04/2025 23:08

Loved Eulogy

Not really enjoying CSS but the whole series was fantastic.

Some of my favourite actors including Will Poulter.

The only ending that bugged me was the picked on geeky girl should have come out on top.

Just watched Common People. I took it as being set a little in the future, given the technological advances (Rivermind, bees) but people's earnings haven't kept pace.

Faircastle · 15/04/2025 11:13

Common People: good but very sad

Bête Noire: entertaining, enjoyed it

Hotel Reverie: good premise but went on far too long

Playthings: liked it - original and interesting

Eulogy: OK, but not dark enough for my taste

USS Callister Infinity: loved it!

FanofLeaves · 15/04/2025 11:21

Yeah I think the ‘well they ‘should’ have been able to afford it’ was part of the concept of the Rivermind episode. Of course they should have, they were both earning and he did a lot of overtime. The fact that they couldn’t was part of the problem, how an unexpected or ongoing expense could push a regular working couple to breaking point, because living costs have far outstripped earnings. Plus I think it’s hinted at that they spent money trying to get pregnant previously.

user1471538275 · 15/04/2025 11:32

@ForPearlNewt I agree - he took a knife with him into the room and I think the inference was that he had paid for her to have joy at the end of her life at the cost of fear and misery at the end of his - true love

Weefreetiffany · 15/04/2025 11:38

Anyone else wonder is Metalhead is the future that stems from Plaything?

I liked this series more the series 6

EasternStandard · 15/04/2025 11:39

This was my favourite series I think. Just a nice balance of stories and actors.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/04/2025 11:48

@EasternStandard I agree about Bete Noire. I didn’t like her smug face at the end and that the bully won. It’s very in line with Black Mirror’s overall vibe though
