CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

I didnt really understand Rosie's point about the Essay mark, even if john does change it to an A, hes not an examiner.

True. And changing it to an A from a C was daft. He didn't put his signature by it or anything. Rosie could have done this! Also, how did Salleh know that her essay was better than Rosie's?

@Middlemarch123 I am also a bit baffled at bonkers Doreen. And also baffled as to why all 3 men were desperate to marry her. Is she rich or something?

Also, I do wonder why Norris just believed Rita when she said Doreen wasn't going to accept his proposal, (when he knows she was a bit jealous of Doreen, and didn't like him being with her, and had tried to turn her against Norris.)

Then Norris said to Doreen he wasn't getting married to anyone - and so Doreen decided not to marry ANY of the men, and had a sour look on her face, and a salty demeanour. Very odd storyline. I wonder if that's Doreen out of it now? I kind of hope so, as I find her an annoying and pointless character who brings nothing to the show. And Rita clearly doesn't like her, even though they are meant to be friends. They are more like frenemies!

Yes, they are definitely frenemies @SabreIsMyFave , hopefully Doreen slopes off now, I did enjoy Emily having a little stir.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 15/01/2026 00:22

I thought Rosie was just enjoying her power over John - making him change the grade by blackmailing him/threatening to stop sleeping with him. Horrible storyline! 🤢

Yes, that was funny. I think Emily enjoyed it a bit. 😆

Yes it is isn't it? These soaps don't seem to go long without having some kind of bloody grown adult aged 30+ shagging a teenager storyline. I don't know why. I mean, I know it happens in real life, but not that often, surely.........?!

And yes, Rosie was enjoying her power over John. The tarty, seductive, Lolita act (from this teenage girl) is honestly turning my stomach too. Such a complete personality change (and look) for Rosie. I hate what they have turned her into.

I also wonder if it's the beginning of the end for Jason and Sarah, after David's nasty little trick of making Sarah think Becky was after Jason? Jason is really cold with Sarah now. But it was understandable that she went off on one..... Especially as Jason and Becky had previously been exchanging friendly texts... Outside work hours/in the evenings/during Jason and Sarah's personal time together.......

I don’t remember this pair who have taken over the bookies at all (and don’t like them so far!). It’s interesting what you remember and what you don’t- I’ve remembered very random scenes before (e.g, Jason commenting that Gail buys posh beans when helping her put the shopping away), but not certain characters at all.

I can kind of see why its happened, she's been made to believe she's something special by Sally, who has big aspirations for her ,whereas in fact she's a fairly typical teensge girl who is of average intelligence
She also very pretty and she know,s it
Its all gone to her head a bit
Poor Sophie she gets non of the attention thst Rosie gets and yet she's far more intelligent than her and is also very funny.

I think the scales first started to fall from Jason's eyes when Sarah showed no sympathy for a suicidal David and insisted the wedding ceremony carried on even when he was missing presumed dead.

JewelleryCat · 16/01/2026 16:16

Sarah knew he was being manipulative though. Yes, she probably should have postponed just in case but everything he’s done afterwards has been manipulative

thenightsky · 16/01/2026 16:28

Oh yes, I agree that Sarah was aware that David was being an arsehole, but Jason wasn't to know and she came across as self-centred and uncaring.

Probably got a point there. And yes, Rosie/Helen Flanagan is very pretty.

I agree that Sophie seems to get way less attention too.

Yeah, I don't remember them at all, and also find them thoroughly unlikeable. Stealing Lloyd's taxi was a dick move. The taxi was worth £5K, and the 'debt' to the bookies was £400. They weren't/aren't debt collectors or bailiffs. They had no right to do that. I would have reported them for theft.

OP posts:
JewelleryCat · 16/01/2026 17:53

Yeah I don’t like the new people who run the bookies. Nice to see Jim back and getting a job at Strretcars. Maybe Liz and Jim will have an affair? So Ryan’s biological father has turned up

TennisWithDeborah · 17/01/2026 10:34

Stape has form with 16yo. He was with Fiz when she was that age, it was mentioned already. I think that Liam’s humiliating rejection of Rosie was a trigger - she was needy and a prime target for a groomer.

It is plausible I think. Both actors are doing really well. CS is going downhill at this point but this storyline is strong imo. I remember the Christmas episode and I’m looking forward to it.

NewGirlInTown · 17/01/2026 17:32

I do hope Violet’s annoying sister isn’t around for long?
I disliked her character instantly, and what another pointless storyline and tenant for Eileen’s magical house, which sleeps about fifteen people…

I loathe the Rosie/John storyline. Disgusting, both of them.

JenniferBooth · 19/01/2026 16:50

I love the tinsel garlands that are going up in the Rovers Return

SabreIsMyFave · 21/01/2026 22:11

Agree that Violet's dreadful sister can get in the bin. What is the point of her coming into it? Confused

Sean hasn't been around for about a week. He was sniffing around Violet and Jamie, and HIS baby everywhere they went for the last few weeks, and now he is absent!

Sarah is FEWMIN that David is being given a golden opportunity in Milan! She is seeing bad behaviour rewarded, I don't blame her for being annoyed. Sick of how people fuss over David like he is a fragile little snowflake. Hmm

Yes @JenniferBooth the big puffy thick tinsel garlands are nice aren't they? Only about a week to Christmas now on Classic Corrie!

Also think the Stape/Rosie storyline is a bit 😬 Rosie as a seductive temptress is pissing me off to be honest. I can't figure out at which point she transitioned from moody, smart-mouthed goth, to seductive, man-hungry lolita who dresses half the time, like she's auditioning for Moulin Rouge!

Shit's kicking off with the babies switched at birth - Michelle's son Ryan, and the random stalker bloke's son!

The baby switch story line has annoyed me ,how is it even possible ?
When I had my babies i was in overnight with both of them for various reasons but they never left my side and the had id bracelets plus a security tag my boys were born in 2006 and 2010
Ryan's about 15 so was born around 1992 ,was it very different to my experience does anyone know?

My DS was born in 1992 and he was left alone quite often. Babies went into a small nursery area between the bays overnight where I was. So 4 mums in each bay with a nursery area of 8 babies in between. He did have the wrist tag, but only hand written, no bar codes. He was also whisked away to I don't know where whilst I had a post birth shower and they brought him back after about an hour. So yes, I didn't have eyes on him directly for quite a bit of time.

ThatBeverleyMacca · 22/01/2026 14:17

I think there was a Long Lost Family ‘Switched at Birth’ episode, though from memory most/all of the cases were international or a long time ago. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gexw7l7rwo This article says that there are 5 known cases of babies swapped on maternity wards from the 1940s-1960s, but protocol by the 1990s would surely have been different. DD (born 2025) never left my side during our 1 night in hospital but DS (born 2022) and I were in hospital for 5 nights and he was taken to the nursery some nights for a few hours for me to get some sleep, so without proper labelling I can see how mix ups could possibly happen.

A black and white photo of Matthew's father as a baby in the 1940s. He is wearing a white knitted cardigan and staring off camera to the right.

Swapped at birth: Why dad never looked like his parents

Matthew's father died late last year - before learning the truth about his family history.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gexw7l7rwo

HurdyGurdy19 · 22/01/2026 17:15

I was born in 1960. The babies were taken away from the mothers at night, to the nursery, to let the mothers sleep, and were brought from the nursery for feeding. The babies, to my knowledge, didn't have ID bracelets on at that time.

On one occasion, my mum was handed a baby for feeding, and she said "this isnt my baby. My baby's prettier than this". When the nurse argued with her, my mum also pointed out that because I was a forceps delivery, I had marks on either side of my head, which the baby she'd been given didn't have.

So it could, and likely did, happen many years ago. But having had my own children in 1988 - 1992, I really can't imagine it happening then.

Middlemarch123 · 22/01/2026 18:44

Naughty Sarah, planting the ecstasy at the salon, can’t say I blame her though, David’s got Blinking Gail wrapped around his little finger.

thenightsky · 22/01/2026 22:30

I really thought Sara was going to plant the drugs in David's hand luggage or front pocket of his suitcase so he'd be arrested at the airport.

SabreIsMyFave · 22/01/2026 22:49

I can't blame Sarah for doing what she did, but I am surprised Audreh and Gail fell for it. She put the ecstacy in his drawer at the salon, and then encouraged Audreh to go to the drawer, by making an excuse that she didn't want to go through David's private stuff. It was as clear as day (IMO) that Sarah had set David up.

Then again, he had form for handling drugs, and being generally a bit of a little shit, so maybe it was easy to believe he had done it because of that.

Re the baby swap storyline, it rarely happens, but yes it has happened in the past. Pre 21st century. Not sure it could happen now.
