CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

SabreIsMyFave · 26/03/2025 13:51

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

Haha!
I thought that Michelle lived above the cab office, following Steve’s decampment to the pub.
I lose track!
I also want to know where everyone is sleeping at Eileen’s. Four adults in a 2-bedder. Eileen made the front room into a bedroom for Todd, so presumably Sean has been in there. Where’s Violet sleeping?

Michelle lives next door to Rita it was originally Alec Gilroys, flat ,Steve and karen ended up renting it because Vik was also living in the flat above the cabbies.

I think Eileen's house is a typical street house that grows bedroom ,s as and when you need them.

TennisWithDeborah · 04/08/2025 20:37

Ah I’d forgotten about Alec’s flat. I remember Rita managing it for him, now.

Digressing…I think that Alec and Bet were my favourite CS couple. The show was brilliant then.

I’m not liking the Connor’s at all and like others I feel it marks the start of the downfall of Corrie. I particular dislike Michelle though and I don’t remember this first time round. She’s quite rude and snippy to people and im
not warming to her at all. Don’t know what axe she has to grind against Tracey but she’s playing with fire by being rude to her. You’d think Michelle as new girl on the block would be a bit less bolshy with the street bitch who may be going down for murder

A small point but did any else think it was strange that Gail insisted on David wearing his school uniform to see the solicitor when he didn't have school that day? What was wrong with his own smart clothes if she wanted him smarter? I remember years ago (possibly in the Richard Hillman times) she wanted him to wear his school uniform for a family photo too. Maybe I'm the weird one, but it wouldn't occur to me to wear school uniform for any reason other than going to school!

Yes, I also noticed that with Chesney, especially as the reason he went round to Fiz’s was to get his tie. A bit of a fail by the writers maybe?

JewelleryCat · 08/08/2025 14:48

What is wrong with Amber? Does she just not like Molly?

x2boys · 08/08/2025 17:23

Kirk Googling the penny on the PC
It seems so strange now ,when everyone has an Iphone/ smart phone

I find it weird seeing people pay for things with cash even though I was still using cash (mostly) in 2007!

Yes you forget about things like that, you don't even need a card now you can pay for it using your phone ,it seems a life time ago in some ways.

The fashions too. Those awful low slung belts. Boot cut jeans. The stripy tops with the fabric flower “badge”. Slouchy boots.

Carla’s style is classic though and wouldn’t look out of place today.

Yes and the young men's complicated hair cuts they must have spent hours using straighteners!

Glammar · 10/08/2025 10:24

Is it me or has the layout of Clare and Ashley's house changed?

Middlemarch123 · 12/08/2025 20:59

Leanne’s back, and staying with Jamie, can’t remember how this pans out.
Steve’s burst the engagement bubble. Sean ‘s been dropped right in it

Jason is bonding with the gorgeous Holly, oh dear.
I so prefer classic to current Corrie.

Tourist29 · 13/08/2025 08:41

Did the Matt Ramsden access to Josh story just disappear - I don’t remember a conclusion to it

SabreIsMyFave · 13/08/2025 09:04

Caught up on this now. Steve telling Michelle about Sonny! She has got to believe it! Hope Sean tells her. I agree with a pp about the Connors. I am not keen either. (Not warming to Michelle.) Yep, Leanne is back after having a baby in real life, and David is brilliant. Giving TracyLuv a run for her money. I also hope Ken and Deidre don't fork out £100K for her defence. Would it really have cost that 20 years ago? (In the UK.) That's madness. No normal person can afford that. And surely the 'paid for' lawyers have to do the same job? Just wondered, I know sod all about it! 😆

I had a look yesterday and I'm not sure.. I know eventually the stairs are on the right as you walk through the front door to the living room (when Kevin and Sally lived there in the future if you see what I mean)

I'm not understanding why she couldn't get legal aid for her preferred solicitor
Without going into details somone close to me was accused of assault about ten years ago ,and after the initial solicitor provided for them by the police ,they were allowed to choose their own solicitor who then applied for legal aid. Which was granted.

Well yeah, I mean I don't know enough about these things/law, but I am baffled as to why legal aid is not allowed for the other solicitor. Surely, they just do the same job really?

TealAndTurquoise · 13/08/2025 14:45

It was something to do with the first solicitor doing a good enough job that she didn't need to switch to a new one. She could switch if she wanted to buy they wouldn't transfer the legal aid to the new one.

Oh, is that not allowed then? (Switching the legal aid to a solicitor of choice?) As I say, I know nowt about this kind of thing. 😆

TealAndTurquoise · 13/08/2025 15:00

The judge said that the first solicitor had provided an adequate defence so there was no need to switch to a new solicitor. No idea if that's still the case today. I remember watching this first time around but I don't remember if Ken and Deirdre end up coming a cropped financially. You'd think they'd have learnt their lesson with Tracey by now with everything she's put them through!

Yes, the layout has changed. This is more like Sally and Tim’s in evening Corrie
