CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

Ah I see! Oh goodness it is just so messed up and makes for very difficult viewing. I wonder if when it originally aired there was some uproar about it.

Mrsplants · 04/06/2025 11:23

Also not sure if people can view this video of the Audrey Roberts noise but since I have seen this I cannot unhear how much she makes this noise!

Actually don’t really remember there being but it was pre social media so who knows??

edited to add well there was social media but not like there is now with discussion of everything all the time!

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 04/06/2025 21:03

Confirmed in today’s episode anyway - she was 16 and he was 7 when she was his babysitter!

JewelleryCat · 04/06/2025 21:44

I’m finding the Jamie and Frankie stuff just so creepy

Yes i saw that and whilst I don't think a nine year age gap is a problem had they met as adults, but they didn't she was 16 and he was a little boy of 7 she then took on a parental role and she's the mother of his half brother it's all rather grim.

It is very grim isn't it?! As has been said, worse than Martin and Katy I think!

@Mrsplants Thank you for that clip of the funny 'Hmmm?!' noise Audrey makes so often! 😆

Someone at work had an Audrey “hnyah?!” as his text message alert years ago.

Yes exactly. 9 year age gap is fine. When it’s with your Stepson not so much!

UrsulasHerbBag · 05/06/2025 08:28

Grim is the word. She did all his mothering too not like she was the every other weekend mum who he rarely saw. Is it just a reaction to getting one over on his dad that would make it a fraction less awful but there’s no getting over the fact she brought him up, slept with and had a baby with his dad. Nasty. Fred would definitely have wanted Bev taken care of but not at the expense of his son and grandsons. She wasn’t married to him. Legally she would not inherit unless the will had indicated she was a beneficiary although she might have a claim as his common law wife but they weren’t together that long.

JewelleryCat · 05/06/2025 15:09

I find what Bev has done so disrespectful

eggandonion · 05/06/2025 17:19

My dad's cousins ashes were split in 4 between her children, but into mini urns rather than instant gravy jar!
Poor Bev...there was a long advert for wills when I was watching. I assume she gets nothing and everything goes to our Ashley.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 05/06/2025 21:16

Well the way Bev is carrying on i wouldn’t give her anything if I was Ashley!

I probably wouldn't either but is that what Fred would have wanted ?
Blanche waa brilliant today imo
With her matinee performance remarks ut also quite compassionate to Ashley.

eggandonion · 05/06/2025 22:03

I am doing my best to become Blanche, she is my hero.
Wills are a minefield, I listen to a radio show with a monthly wills section. Not having wills is also a minefield. I'm sure Blanche would have loved a wills expert on the radio.

Yep, Ashley will get everything I think. I don't suppose Fred even thought about putting Bev in his will, as they were getting married, and she would have had half of everything anyway on his death. (For being his wife.) I don't think he predicted that he would die on his wedding day - 10 minutes before he got married.

Part of me suspects that Bev is more upset at not inheriting anything, than she is about Fred dying! Even so, I would understand her being pissed off at being left out of the will if they had been a co-habiting couple (who had never married,) for 30 years or so. They've been together less than a year! I don't think she 'deserves' anything.

I'm not even sure Ashley can give her anything (even if he wanted to,) because wouldn't there be big tax implications? I'm not sure how it would work. I'm not hugely au fait with this kind of thing, and only know bits and bobs and basics about legal stuff!

And yeah, Blanche was a star yesterday. She has a good heart. Just a sour tongue! 😆

And Charlie just letting himself into Maria's flat is so weird and creepy. Sod that for a lark. And he keeps getting weirdly arsey when she's even within 6 feet of another man, or even glances at another man, yet he's with Tracey, still sleeping with her, and still living with her. How dare he?!

I suspect Fred would have changed his will when he got married ,he would have made sure both Ashley and Bev, were provided for
Charlie just gets worse horrible man
David starting to get into his evil phase.

thenightsky · 10/06/2025 21:52

The Tracy and Charlie story is really ramping up now. Scary stuff.

x2boys · 10/06/2025 21:58

Yes great acting i still can't find it in me to have any sympathy for Tracy ,though she, s such a nasty piece of work .

HurdyGurdy19 · 11/06/2025 07:22

Charlie was such a brilliant villain. Bill Ward played him brilliantly. It's easy to see how the women fell for him. He can be charming when he wants to be.

(Quite how Anthony Cotton got the best actor award over him, I will never understand.)

I'd forgotten about David and the bath. That was chilling.

I suppose we must be coming close to the end of his time on Corrie.

Agree with @x2boys about not having any sympathy for Tracy. She's such a poisonous witch. Only once did I feel sorry for her, and she brought a lump to my throat. That was in a scene with Deirdre. It's few years away though, and the sympathy didn't last too long.

x2boys · 11/06/2025 17:59

As despicable as charlie is ,why on earth did Tracy think she had any right to
his house?

SabreIsMyFave · 11/06/2025 18:05

Oooooh, that bath scene with Charlie and David was horrible. Shock I think David did nearly shit himself, and I agree that Charlie makes a great villain! I hope TracyLuv doesn't 'forgive' him again. As Deirdre said 'where's your self respect?' TracyLuv seems to be made of stern stuff and yet she keeps letting him walk all over her!

Weird how Rita is suddenly out of the show for a few weeks (broken her ankle or something, in Budapest?) Random storyline. Wonder if Barbara Knox needed a few weeks off?

Is that Charlie's house that they're in? Is that the one he bought that Keith was living in? (And Craig and his family before they died or went to jail?!)

Who's living in the house Blanche bought for Tracy? I thought that was it (that they're in right now.) I could be wrong. (I probably am.)

Yeah it's the house charlie bought and kicked Craig and his Grandad out of
I think Blanche is still renting to Frankie isn't she?
