CLASSIC CORRIE THREAD. Now in June 2006.

Well here we are, a new thread a full year (almost) after the last one. Almost 2 years have passed (in Classic Corrie) since the start of the last thread (we were at September 2004, and it's now June 2006.)

So we have Keith still in it, about to be booted out of his house, after trying to get one over on Charlie Stubbs, who bought the house Keith is living in and gave him notice to move out. (And Keith and Audrey are finished now.)

Steve's girlfriend Ronnie appears to trying to set Steve up for the hit and run that she did in a Streetcars taxi.

Lloyd - Steve's new Streetcars partner has been dating Kelly Crabtree, who has recently been set up for a theft she didn't do by street newcomer Becky. In a drunken stupor, Kelly slept with Steve!

Janice is back (much to Cilla's disgust!)

Leanne and Danny have just got engaged. (Though Danny clearly is still in love with his ex wife Frankie...) Frankie has gone off to Spain leaving Nathan (her new fella) moping around without her. Les adopting Chesney has recently been approved.

Dev's 'long lost' daughter Amber has just moved in with him in his flat. And Dev is making the house he bought for him and Sunita, nice, in the hope that she will return soon with the baby twins (Asha and Aadi.)

Poor Ashley is fighting in court to keep his own son, after the 'bio father' (Matt) turned up trying to make a claim on him FOUR years after his birth, and after FOUR years of having nothing to do with him, (he wants him now because his new wife can't have children!) Ashley's wife Claire is quite heavily pregnant.

Sean has just recently met his dad, who was very cold and had a very unwelcoming wife when he went to see him. His dad came to Coronation Street shortly after to see Sean, but bottled out very quickly and drove off before Sean could see him. Sean prays he comes back.

We still have Blanche in it, being her nosey intrusive self, and also the equally nosey and intrusive Norris. Rita got caught in Norris's wardrobe recently after he had brought a woman home who he'd met in a lonely hearts club. That only lasted 5 minutes though after Norris decided he is better off alone!

Not much going on with the Barlows at the moment, apart from Tracey using everyone she can to look after Amy so she doesn't have to! And Gail is resuming normality as much as possible, after discovering that her son David was the one sending greetings cards signed 'Richard Hillman' for the past few months. David's punishment is to work at Audrey's salon. (Must be how he started working with hair!'

Sarah and Jason are due to be married, and Sarah is super excited about it. Jason, not so much. Sally and Kevin finally accepted the relationship with their daughter Rosie and her boyfriend Craig (the goth.) After many MANY months of resistance, and Rosie becoming a goth too. Rosie and Craig have recently de-gothed themselves though!

Oh, and we recently lost long-standing character Mike Baldwin who died of a massive heart attack. (April 2006.) Sad

I'm sure I've missed bits out, but I think these are the main bits for now. Grin

Let's see where it's all at when this thread finishes!

That’s amazing! Thanks for the new thread 🙂

thecatdidit · 26/03/2025 15:52

Blooming heck @SabreIsMyFave that's a marvellous precis, thank you.
Ronnie is a nasty piece of work, setting Steve up like that. I remember the MP 'd wife Vicky Pryce (an economist) being sent to prison for perverting the course of justice after her husband persuaded her to take his speeding points. (He was sent to prison, too,)

Thank you too! Smile

Re, that MP! I do remember that very clearly! Shock DH and I both thought about that yesterday, but couldn't remember who it was, other than it was an MP and his wife.

As far as I can recall, didn't she take the points for him, and say nothing, and then tell the police some years later as revenge for him having an affair? Then they both got in trouble! (3 months in jail each I think...? Would need to check!)

I think Ronnie is getting Steve to take the points (for her speeding on the night she hit the man,) so it is on record that he was driving - and then when the police come along and identify the streetcars cab as the killer cab, it will be Steve in the firing line.

Not seen today's yet (catching up on last night's MAFS Australia) but I think this is what Ronnie is doing. What a cahhh. Shock

8 months they got @thecatdidit That MP and his wife. Just looked it up. I think they got released after 2 months though. But it did ruin his career - and his reputation. And his wife DID tell the police as revenge for him having an affair. SEVEN years after she took the speeding points for him.

Bit daft really. Did she really think that she would get off scot free? Silly woman! This was 2013...

Ah I wasn't aware that it was revenge. Her career hasn't suffered. She was in an open prison and did good work helping out fellow prisoners with maths.

Apreslapluielesoleil · 26/03/2025 16:58

Thanks for the new thread @SabreIsMyFave
Ronnie is horrible, wonder if she’ll do a runner?

Keith needs to look at curtain poles he can leave behind or maybe prise up a floorboard. Fill space with raw prawns… apparently the stench is rank.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 26/03/2025 17:00

Thanks for the new thread 🥰

I knew it was evil david platt sending Gail those cards. Praying he gets killed off, 20 years later 🤭

HurdyGurdy19 · 26/03/2025 17:03

Excellent recap @SabreIsMyFave . Captured just about everything I think.

I never liked Ronnie from the get-go. I can't remember how this storyline plays out though, but I hope it's her exit storyline. I wonder if it is also Kelly's exit if she has to confess to Lloyd about her one night stand with Steve, to prove that he couldn't have been the hit and run driver.

I'm also hoping that Charlie buying the house is Keith's storyline. He really is a fun-sponge, isn't he. I understand people being thrifty because of their financial circumstances, but he's just plain stingy.

It led me down a "wondering" rabbit hole. Angie (shouldn't she be out of prison by now?) is Tommy's widow, so wouldn't she be in receipt of a widow's pension? And/or any life insurance he might have had? If so, I assume that Angie wouldn't be allowed to receive the money, so would it be held in an account for her until her release, or could she have assigned the payments to Keith towards Craig's upkeep?

(I was also thinking the same about Steph in Classic Emmerdale yesterday and wondering what would happen to her widow's pension whilst she was in prison.)

thenightsky · 26/03/2025 19:26

Thanks for the shiny new thread. I'd forgotten the nasty Ronnie story completely. Poor Steve.

paulyispoorly · 26/03/2025 19:30

This is great- I watched it as it’s all that was on telly the other day and I’d forgotten who half these people were

TennisWithDeborah · 26/03/2025 19:33

Thanks for the new thread!

I am a bit behind. I’ve just enjoyed Roy and Vera’s conversation /misunderstanding about Norris wanting to section her!

I too can’t believe that Matt would admit to sex with a patient. The GPs I know don’t socialise with patients let alone sleep with them.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 26/03/2025 20:46

I think Angela got 8 years Hurdy so won’t be back for a long time!

i was in Australia when all these episodes were on so it’s all new to me. I do remember how Sarah and Jason ends up though so I must have been back for that!

Yep I agree about Keith though I know people have different opinions about him - saying he is just thrifty - and I guess he is entitled to be. But he just comes across as so dull and miserable and boring. I think Roy is quite thrifty, but he comes across as much nicer than Keith. I hope Keith goes soon too!

Not sure what happens with Kelly and Steve - but I think he has to fess up to sleeping with her, if he wants to not go to jail for death by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident!

Also, I did chuckle quite a bit at Shelley and her disastrous date with Mr Bus Route! 😂 Her face was a picture. She has really good comic timing does Sally Lindsay! Reminded me of when she went on a date with Eric from Newton and Ridley (Peter Kay.) When he said Bev doesn't look old enough to be Shelley's mum, and she went all coy and said 'oh thank you....' 😊 Then he said, 'oh no no, actually you do, I can see it now. It's in the neck. It's always in the neck. Gives it away every time.' 😂

It was January 2004 @JewelleryCat that Peter Kay (as Eric) was in Corrie dating Shelley. So we would have seen it on Classic Corrie around the start of 2024 I think... Smile

So yes, we have already seen him in Classic Corrie. Smile

I’m way out lol, I don’t remember seeing him at all but I’m glad you have a better memory than me!

UrsulasHerbBag · 27/03/2025 07:28

I’m here too! Thank you for your fantastic run down @SabreIsMyFave i like looking back to see what’s changed, who is in and who has been lost along the way. Agree with Shelley having great comedic timing, she played that rough sort in the royal family and was fab too. It isn’t so much Kieth’s stinginess it’s his grumpy old man stuff and always knowing he’s right when he’s clearly wrong. Anyway I think Charlie has seen him off and he will bugger off back to Sheffield to live with the rest of the old Yorkshire grumps (I live in a village in Yorkshire I know where of I speak ;))

SabreIsMyFave · 27/03/2025 10:20

I’m still a couple of weeks behind, Kelly has just been charged with theft.

Keith reminded me of Alf (personality not looks obv).

Roy Hudd was great but I find larger-than-life Archie a bit annoying with his patronising and OTT “ladies don’t buy drinks” and “two wonderful ladies interested in me” narratives. I did feel that he led Rita on a little bit.

I would’ve liked a conversation between Emily and Mike about her forgiveness of Ernest’s killer. She did visit his flat so it seems like an opportunity missed. I liked the relationship between Emily and Mike - mutual respect, fondness and trust despite being unalike.

SabreIsMyFave · 27/03/2025 10:57

I agree with you about Archie @TennisWithDeborah There is something a bit irksome about his constant full-on chirpiness, and how full on he is. (He's the antithesis of Keith!) 😆 And yeah, he did lead Rita on a bit. I actually thought he was romantically interested in her too, and was a bit surprised when he said it was purely platonic. He did play Audrey and Rita off against each other a bit.

Omg i love dev's daughter 😄

Poor Kelly 🥺

thecatdidit · 27/03/2025 15:19

I think the police should have a look at the photographic evidence of the speeding driver, might show someone who is clearly not Steve. Ronnie is such a cow. I like Steve.

TennisWithDeborah · 27/03/2025 15:25

Nothing against the Ronnie actor but she and Simon Gregson had zero chemistry. Especially compared to Suranne Jones.
