The assessment takes several months as well, so if it was discussed at the start of the assessment and absolutely no changes were seen given a reasonable amount of time, there may be concerns that they couldn’t work with professionals when concerns (possibly relating to other issues) were raised

ExtraDecluttering · 25/03/2026 21:25

Another adults bedroom I couldn’t live with, I actually love those colours but its too dark, I don’t like colour drenching and that panelling is awful. Plus they’ve done that annoying thing of covering the bed in cushions and stuff but at least you can get rid of those easily.

Meredusoleil · 25/03/2026 21:40

I didn't like the colour drenching either. Far too dark and broody for my liking!

BeckyBismuth · 25/03/2026 22:12

SwedishSayna · 25/03/2026 21:10

I was wondering about the clutter too, do other people think that would likely be a barrier to adopting a child? If so for what reason?
The whole family were lovely.
And does anyone know where SS got her strappy denim dungarees?

I want a pair of those too.

RaraRachael · 25/03/2026 22:19

Loved El's bedroom but not keen on her Dads' one.

momager22 · 25/03/2026 22:19

I found the Craigs quite annoying and hard to empathise with. Lots of hand wringing and complacency. Get a grip lads!

We love how Rob is so hard working and usually finds Iwan or Stacey doing a random craft (cutting sponges into shapes!).

Also not keen on the "story". Of course a lot of people who do get to this situation do so due to terrible circumstances but there have been families on there with no real "issues" other than too much stuff, and it's just as enjoyable.

I'm sure DIY SOS was once more just botched unfinished DIY jobs and it became solely about refitting homes completely for people who needed modified living arrangements.

(I'm not saying that's a bad thing! But we tune into these shows for the home improvements, not the stories)

Friends of mine were on one episode if DIY SOS it has been life changing for them & they definitely have 'a story'.

BeckyBismuth · 26/03/2026 09:19

I find it too much when we get all the personal story stuff. I love the Repair Shop but that's getting too "dead relative" like the couple's choices on Strictly.

I understand that items brought in for repairs most likely belonged to a dead relative, but it's not necessary to hear what they died from. It can also be triggering for some people.

However I could watch Rob at work all day.

PearlsTeapot · 26/03/2026 10:17

I liked their bedroom! But im a fan of colour drenching. I thought it was really masculine and suited them.

And it made me want panelling in my bedroom too!

RaraRachael · 26/03/2026 11:43

Unfortunately going by what Stacey said, every family is going to have a "story".
That's just not my cup of tea.

Daisyrainbows · 26/03/2026 11:59

I hate panelling, when will this end?! Also the ceiling rose in a new build…. Uck

Same here. Some shows I watch for just a bit of light entertainment, which they stop being when every week the participants have a “story”. Some weeks with a “story”, and some without fine, but when it’s every single week it becomes unwatchable. As a PP said, DIY SOS went down that route, and also lately Race Across the World.

RaraRachael · 26/03/2026 14:46

Yes. I'm looking forward to the new series of RATW as it's got some great countries, but don't want it overshadowed by "stories".

It reminds me of those misery memoir books that were a thing. Sometimes I just want entertainment. Everything doesn't have to be worthy.

JoeTheDrummer · 26/03/2026 15:34

Sweet episode, but I’m surprised they made the decision to include their daughter in the show, given the sensitive nature of her background. Although actually, adopted or not, I don’t really think children should be included in the show. Appreciate they bring light-relief and make the show family entertainment, but they’re too young to consent to it, as they can’t properly appreciate the impact of their privacy being removed like that. It’s such a personal thing to have cameras come into your house, including your bedroom, and for your parents’ hoarding-tendencies to be made into entertainment.

Katherineryan1986 · 25/03/2026 15:47

Did they say why they had to downsize? I thought SS said something at the beginning but I didn’t catch it.

I’m surprised an adopted child was on this but I’m sure they will have followed procedure.

The child is legally the child of the parents, they make the decisions. There isnt any 'procedure'. When the child is adopted there is guidance, advice, information about shoulds or shouldnts in terms of exposure for the child, either in the locaility or social media nowadays

But ultimately a parent makes a decision for their child like any other. its whatever they feel comfortable with and what they think their child needs or doesnt need.

RaraRachael · 26/03/2026 18:21

I think it said they'd been in a rented house and had downsized to the current one.

rainforestalliance · 26/03/2026 18:28

Lovely family but not finding this series as satisfying de-cluttering wise :(

Pigtailsandall · 26/03/2026 18:32

MojoMoon · 24/03/2026 23:06

They must have spent an absolute fortune on all that stuff - they've been working hard and downsized their home and they've spent tens of thousands on dross.

They could have spent it on saving for their child's future or working less to spend more time together now.

Sweet family but I hope they give them some financial counselling as well behind the scenes

Well all the families had extra clutter that they spent money on, that's why they're in the program. They could've all saved it for their kids education. Not sure why point it out specifically about them.

HollyhockDays · 26/03/2026 18:53

I loved this episode. I thought the smaller dad was keen on the bedroom look!

I cannot stand the “story” in RATW. They spent so long the last time on those two sisters. So boring - they were not that close. Big deal. Although the brothers story was interesting.

RaraRachael · 26/03/2026 19:20

@HollyhockDays oh yes those sisters continually giving each other the side eye. So boring. The brothers were the only couple I liked.

My son and I fancy going on it but apart from him being T1 diabetic there's nothing interesting about us 😅

Exactly. I look around my house and see pound signs where I’ve wasted money but we do it for a reason. And like they said, they want her to have everything and they have a big family that also spoil her.

The show really shines a light that stuff does not automatically equal happiness.

Zippidydoodah · 27/03/2026 13:23

Aaw, I just watched the latest episode and it was lovely 🥰

Zippidydoodah · 27/03/2026 13:23

I would also like to hire a warehouse and staff to do this without putting it in the TV. Our house is completely out of control.

Daisyrainbows · 27/03/2026 19:41

Anyone else watch the show for a burst of energy to chuck stuff? I can normally get rid of 20 things in the 24 hours after watching the show. Then the magic feeling disappeara

PearlsTeapot · 27/03/2026 22:15

Yeah it motivates me! I don’t have stuff in my house anyway but there’s always an area that can be worked on. I blasted through a kitchen cupboard today!
