Really in the mood for some good documentaries but there are so many to choose from! I have Netflix, prime and Disney. I’m looking for some recommendations please ☺️

The Last Mountain which should be on All4. It's about mountaineering which is really not something I would be interested in but it came on after I had been watching something else and I got into it. It follows the story of the son who dies on the mountain. He was the son of quite a well known mountaineer who died in the early 90's. It is so beautifully filmed and you really follow the journey his sister takes to find out more about his death. I needed up watching it twice it was that good x

Sorry- that makes no sense but I can't edit as on the app! Hopefully you get the gist!!

I’m home alone tonight and about to start Scamanda on Disney plus. That title screams ‘watch me!’

Bobi Wine the People’s president -
It’s about the opposition leader of Uganda who was a popstar now turned politician. It’s on Disney and absolutely fantastic Oscar nominated.

I just finished Gabby Petito on Netflix. It is very sad.

Dreams of a Life, My Old School, James Ellroy's Feast of Death. If you like WW2 documentaries, Laurence Rees's stuff is excellent.

Dreams of a Life - about a woman who lay dead & undiscovered in her flat for 2 years.

My Old School - best to find out what it's about by watching it - don't Google!

Feast of Death - Ellroy investigates his mother's unsolved murder.

The Rescue by Jimmy Chin

Incredible

Three Identical Strangers on Netflix is one of the best I have seen

The Storyville documentaries on iPlayer are great. Also Billy and Molly: An Otter Love Story on Disney.

Navalny on iPlayer. One of the most inspiring, amazing things I've ever watched. I've watched it twice; once before Alexei Navalny died, and once since. It's no less inspiring for his no longer being here, in fact it's perhaps more inspiring knowing that he made the ultimate sacrifice in the belief of democracy.

It's not a documentary, but I recommend his memoir too, it's called Patriot and it's everything that the documentary is and more. It sounds unlikely that a posthumous memoir would be funny, but it's really funny. And you can see that side of him in the documentary too; he's been a loss to the whole world, not just to Russia.

Once upon a time in Iraq and the one about northeast Ireland are exceptional and moving.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 25/02/2025 18:53

Any of the Storyville documentaries on iPlayer. They're so varied and really good quality.

Really recommend The Space Shuttle that Fell to Earth (still available on iPlayer, 3 episodes) about the Columbia disaster. It’s heartbreakingly sad, but well worth a watch.

This was brilliant! Also watch The Perfect Wife on Disney if you haven't already.

@Artyblartfast OUaTI Northern Ireland is one of the most jaw-dropping things I've ever watched. I couldn't believe how much propaganda had been thrown at me-
an English millennial- about the situation in NI. Every news reel from my childhood felt like it needed reevaluation.

Just found it on iplayer

I love a good documentary. I agree the Storyville ones are fantastic.

If you can find it The crash reel documentary is fantastic about a snowboarder who has a catastrophic accident.
