Really in the mood for some good documentaries but there are so many to choose from! I have Netflix, prime and Disney. I’m looking for some recommendations please ☺️

Just finished Devil in the Family: the fall of Ruby Franke.

Utterly compelling and so frustrating, desperately sad too.

The Jinx

The Staircase

Trainwreck Woodstock 99

Mr McMahon

Ashley Madison

Blackfish

@crosskeysgreen thank you ☺️ I’ve just finished devil In tbe family, I remember hearing about it in the news….those poor kids! And the husband seemed like such a doormat, he must of known more than he is letting on.
I enjoyed the Ashley madison one too…with the YouTube couple!

That husband is the wettest lettuce I've ever heard of. And he said he was still in love with her at the end. I almost hate him more than I hate her. He just abandoned them when they needed him.

Blackfish is heartbreaking and don’t think I could ever watch it again. But I recommended it to so many people, specifically those that at the time loved Seaworld. Their opinions completely changed after watching this.

Husband in "Abducted in Plain Sight" gives him a run for his money in the Wet Lettuce Race. There is one things that happens in that documentary that directly involves the husband and it was one of the most jaw dropping moments of television I've ever witnessed.

Thank you to the person(s) who recommended Bobi Wine, wow!

I watched Gaia:Death on Dancing Ledge last night and it made me very angry with the police/rape convictions/joined up thinking and the state of our mental health services. We need a database for names regularly bought up in 999 calls and police enquiries, even if no charges are bought, to get a full idea of background of some of these men. When more than 2 separate people complain about one person they should be visited at the very least, in connection with anything at all (violence, robbery, vandalism as well as sexual offences). It boggles my mind that this guy and his mate were openly raping so many teenage girls and left to carry on.

Sweet Bobby
Anatomy of lies

Some people are weird!

hedgehoggle · 09/03/2025 19:29

This is a great thread!

I have to recommend OJ Simpson: Made in America. Think it's still on iPlayer - absolutely fantastic!

Artyblartfast · 10/03/2025 18:21

Omg watching that ruby franke thing. Religion increasingly just freaks me out. Creepy creepy weird stuff... It's like brain washing. I never want to go to Utah 😬

Deepdene160971 · 16/03/2025 04:23

Watched The Octopus Teacher on Netflix just last night - definitely worth a watch.
Also the Deepest Breath - about free diving, on Netflix

Bobbieiris · 16/03/2025 08:34

Ooo the octopus one sounds fascinating! Thank you ☺️

I tried watching The Deepest Breath a bit ago after hearing people on here say it's so good but couldn't continue not very long in, after seeing that person come up for air lose consciousness and how his face was behaving was awful. Can't understand why anyone would want to watch that.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 16/03/2025 09:39

Somebody on another thread recommended Birdsong (currently on BBC iPlayer) and having watched it last night I can recommend it too, if you like nature documentaries. It’s about a guy who has set himself the task of recording all the types of birdsong in Ireland. Beautiful to look at but also very moving at times.

McMillions, the McDonald Monopoly scam, truth really is stranger than fiction!
On of the main characters is so entertaining.

Artyblartfast · 07/04/2025 22:56

Just started watching the BBC documentary about the Kinehan crime family. It's v good so far.

Three Identical Strangers on Netflix is one of the best I have seen

Absolutely this…extraordinary true story!

The Last Mountain which should be on All4. It's about mountaineering which is really not something I would be interested in but it came on after I had been watching something else and I got into it. It follows the story of the son who dies on the mountain. He was the son of quite a well known mountaineer who died in the early 90's. It is so beautifully filmed and you really follow the journey his sister takes to find out more about his death. I needed up watching it twice it was that good x

Was the young man autistic? I think I've seen this and could never remember what it was called so that I could watch it again.

Brunocatmon · 08/04/2025 13:13

The alpinist is the one I'm thinking of.

FishfingerFlinger · 08/04/2025 13:20

Great thread, I am going to need to look some of these up.

Capturing the Freidmans is I think the most extraordinary documentary I’ve ever watched (content warning - child sexual abuse). Not sure where you can watch it but worth seeking out.

Krest · 08/04/2025 14:50

Take Care of Maya (it was on Netflix when I watched it)
I watched it on a plane with tears streaming down my face by the end.
