@readingmakesmehappy I said exactly those things to DS when we watched it last night. I love a whodunnit but there was no chance to figure it out, a few more seemingly inconsequential scenes with the killer would have been better and give people a chance to either figure it out or have a more satisfying reveal.

And I agree, why would Xavier go alone and why is he allowed to keep the book of secrets. They don't know the state of things outside, he could die immediately and he's taken the original notes Cal left? Also there's no way I would leave my kids to find my spouse where there's only a tiny chance they might be alive, it's not like the bunker is safe just because Sinatra is out of action for a bit.

I have enjoyed the series, the opening and penultimate episodes were great but the writing isn't top level, it feels like someone had a great overall idea and passed it to junior writers. I don't know if I'm just miserable though, I find recently even things that get good reviews, I'm poking holes in.

I loved it and found the style very reminiscent of This Is Us. Agree though that Jane is a psychopath and wonder how and why she was brought into the bunker. I'd love to understand her story in a similar way to how Billy's was played out before.

ruralwanderer · 05/03/2025 21:17

Just thought, there was a big clue as to the identity of the killer in the first episode. They were the only person (other than Presley and Jeremy) that didn't go to the town hall when summoned to be told about Cal's death.

Clearinguptheclutter · 06/03/2025 09:23

thought the conclusion was a bit naff tbh. Upon learning that Presley might/might not be dead I'm not sure why our hero didn't just try and sort that straight away.

I'll watch s2 when it comes. Hopefully there will be more to learn about Jane.

The premise felt a bit too similar to the Hugh Howey trilogy (Wool, Shift, Dust) but as a show it was well-made. I particularly enjoyed the music.

A perfect ending, it tied up the main questions yet had more questions ready for a second series. How will they stop psychopath Jane though?

Watched the first one tonight, it looks good! Not reading the thread in case of spoilers so just placemarking.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/03/2025 06:17

i really enjoyed the series except him flying the plane after reading the manual, and we forgave jane?
i do like Sterling K Brown, anyone seen American Fiction, he is so good in that.
the last two episodes were a bit far fetched as often happens.

Just watched all four that are up so far. Enjoyed it, but like so many series like this wonder how much legs it has ? Where have I seen the ‘Sinatra’ actress before ?

I know her from Law and Order Criminal Intent.
And Black Mass movie with Johnny Depp.

KnewYearKnewMe · 16/03/2025 07:38

@MrsLargeEmbodied - I don’t think Jane is forgiven? Who knows what she will get up to next series!

I didn’t get the Wii thing before - why couldn’t she have jt?

also, wasn’t Xavier’s dad a pilot - had Xavier been in the airforce before secret service? If not, yes - reading ‘airplanes for dummies’ and taking off is probably stretching it a bit!

Greentableleg · 16/03/2025 07:55

Xavier did have flying experience but his eyesight wasn't perfect enough to be a professional pilot like his dad. I'm sure there was a scene with him and his dad talking about it.

Eldermilleniallyogii · 16/03/2025 08:36

I thought it was great.

I've started rewatching and in one of the early episodes, Presley tells the president's son that Xavier has his pilot's licence to fly planes.

I’ve also just started Drug Girls on IPlayer, she’s the main character in that too.
