Am I the only one watching? I can't see a thread

I don’t think Steve’s age was the issue. He just wasn’t a skater.

It feels a bit like it was set up to keep Steve in for a few weeks, having no skate off. They've never done that before.

Steve was crap and better skaters have gone over him.

Skate off back next week. Although I think I prefer this way of just booting them out.

When the professionals skate the live disappears. It's mainly filler for the vote.

I like that they have a professional skate on whilst we vote, I'm not sure what else they could do in that time? I don't watch Strictly, what happens on there when it's voting time?

The vote for Strictly happens after the main show finishes and the dance off is then shown on Sunday.

I seem to recall that years ago DOI used to have the main show, then something else on, then a later show on the same day for the skate off. But I might have imagined that!

Thank you ChessieFL. Yes, actually, I think they did used to have a separate show didn't they. I'd forgotten about that. You've jogged my memory!

I always thought that I missed a few of the earlier ones, but, on googling I have in fact watched them all.

Yes, I think in 2006 and 2007 we had the main show on a Saturday night, then Dancing on Ice Defrosted on ITV2, then back to ITV for the skate off and then ITV2 for Defrosted again I was gutted in 2008 (I think) when they scrapped Defrosted and the daily show.

As you can see, I used to love DOI years ago but I just can't get into it this year. It all feels so rushed.

I think Steve was maybe too tall if that makes sense. I don’t know his height but I’d say well over 6ft. That’s a long way to fall. And he had a sturdy build - not saying overweight, just large. Just looked clumsy. Plus not a natural ice skater.

I think Anton has the same problem, with regards to his height.

Both he and Steve remind me of Bambi when he's learning to walk. Think it's the long legs.

There's one less skating couple each week so they have to fill the programme time which could explain the return of the skate off. They're fitting it all into one show now. If memory serves the final decision who stays or goes is down to the judges. I've always believed the judges decision should be the decider from the beginning but viewers' votes will be bringing in mega ££££s and that's what it's all about 🙄⛸️

Tall men can do well on DOI as long as they can skate. It's not like Strictly where massive height difference makes a ballroom partnership look weird: you rarely need to ice dance cheek to cheek, and being able to lift a tiny female pro up as if she was a Barbie doll is a huge advantage.

David Seaman is exhibit A: making use of his 6'4" height and strength to do great lifts. But he could skate, he had decent balance and agility, and he wasn't over 60. Anton also seems to be on a decent upwards trajectory.

David Seaman dropped his partner who ended up with some rather bad injuries as a result.

True, but that could have happened to anyone.
