I'd rather them have some real celebrities that might be obscure than lots of people who have been on game shows or reality shows which doesn't make one a celebrity. I had to look half of them up this year and was unsurprised that they came from TOWIE, Love Island, Traitors etc.
Ferne McCann was arguably better than Steve but it begs the question whether she should be there in the first place! Also whether they invite people like Steve, Bez, Mark Little etc on too as they polarise opinion.
He deserves his place as he polled higher in the votes but every year you see on social media screams of Fix!!!! (Why would it be fixed and how can it be fixed if it is public vote? There is much amiss if it is, that needs investigating). "Steve needs to do the decent thing and resign"! We heard this about Bez, about Todd Carty, about John Sergent, Ed Balls and others. No if they are getting votes they deserve their place in the line up.
Also I've seen posts about Steve being popular because he's a gold medal winner. So was Tom Dean who went out first in Strictly so that doesn't work either.
The show does need some tweaks. Fewer reality folk would be a start. Look at the line up of Richard Osman House of Games. There are a lot of people on there who I don't know, but when you do find out what they do, they are kosher celebrities who do something more than go on Celebrity This That Or The Other or call themselves a celebrity for being on Love Island or Traitors.
Mollie is a lovely person and a super skater but she is not a celebrity. This proves that people go on Traitors and Gogglebox to launch a "career".
And Ferne and Brendan were just dismissed last night same as Chelsea and her partner. Quick zip around the ice whilst Holly and Steve talk to the audience and the viewers. They should at least have a final skate!
