Hi all

Has anyone binge watched all 4 eps and looking for a discussion?

I'm 20 mins from the end of ep 4.

OP posts:

What's with all the pushing off the cliff ending s in all these dramas.

12purplepencils · 09/01/2025 07:11

And yes agree the phoning on loudspeaker from the bathroom upstairs was totally stupid.
(not to even mention phoning Maddie rather than the police 🤦‍♀️)

The only good thing about it was James Norton. (And not even his acting, sorry James!)

Phase2 · 09/01/2025 07:24

But none of them phoned the police. It's like they had used all the budget hiring cliffs so couldn't afford police (or uniforms for the two that did turn up). Imagine them all being in charge of a child!

ReformMyArse · 09/01/2025 07:25

What a pile of shit. What was Norton thinking?

I enjoyed it though 😂

oh I’m with you!
I obviously put my views in such strong terms that Mumsnet have hidden my post about it!

and the never ending promotional mn Ad threads about it and adverts that keep popping up are just adding to my outrage 😆

I spent the first 3 episodes feeling it was gruelling and upsetting (and as an ex social worker the way that cafcass woman terminated the contact after a short time because the mum understandably got upset at her child saying someone else was his mummy 😡

then the 4th episode glad Miles got his come uplanxe but what a ridiculous plot twist!

so she didn’t have the courage to leave but did have the courage to swap babies and give up her son to strangers “to protect him” (er… leaving would also protect him) and did have the courage to send the video in.
And totally unbelievable cunning Miles would forget about the cameras in his house 🙄

utter rubbish!

Also miles conveniently gave the sweets is a really obvious way one a time with a high five afterwards right in front of the camera. Rather than just subtely giving them when nobody looking

Pushed a man off a cliff? Don't call the police though. The chef can help.

"the chef can help" has just made me laugh out loud 😂 cheering up a frosty commute this morning 😊

12purplepencils · 09/01/2025 10:24

And ANOTHER THING
why did they merrily keep dropping him off there for childcare even after Miles turned nasty? (And before there were any court orders)

It was all ridiculous . I suppose they would argue that miles had their biological child still so they were trying to keep on good terms with them. But still looked pretty ridiculous

heartbroken22 · 09/01/2025 11:49

Obviously trying to show the more money u have the more power u have to do anything

MeltingSky · 09/01/2025 12:53

When miles walked off with theo when Pete was buying chips - did pete not call the police because miles is biologically theo's dad? Or am I overthinking it?

12purplepencils · 09/01/2025 13:15

@MeltingSky i don’t think it can have been because of that because by then it had been established Miles was a safeguarding risk (the poisoning video) and had been ordered not to be in his own family home. So I think the police would have been very interested!

MeltingSky · 09/01/2025 14:40

Ah yes, good point.

Not sure why they didn't call the police then.

RamsaySnowsSausage · 09/01/2025 20:19

Just finished this. It was good - the acting and the sets (I want both their houses!) were great. Some of the plot was very questionable but that is what tv dramas/books are for isn't it?!

I did find myself screaming at them to do the sensible thing but I don't think it went too rogue - I can understand why they didn't trust the police at certain points and went loco.

It would have been fair boring if everything had happened through police and solicitors.

Real life cases of baby swap/ baby theft have happened and making them into a contemporary ITV drama would not be appropriate.

IBlameTheDog · 09/01/2025 20:47

What I don't understand is, why was Theo's mum still prepared to be friends with David's mum? Sorry, can't remember names.

"Hi, yeah, my husband is violent and controlling so I thought I'd sacrifice your child in order to keep mine safe. Soz."

"You did what you had to do."

I'm sorry, what now? I'd have ripped her bloody head off. Not sat on a beach side eying her.

I have seen all episodes. Liked the twist at the end. I think we all knew Miles was up to something. His Mother appearing was a bit strange as it didn’t really go anywhere but the reasoning as to why the babies were swapped was understandable.

I felt the same about the mother. I was expecting that plot line to be developed a bit more.

As regards the reasoning for the babies being swapped....that didn't quite work for me.

Lucy adored David (not her biological child) and sought to keep him very safe from Miles. So why couldn't she have done that with Theo, her actual biological child?

12purplepencils · 10/01/2025 00:05

I mean…. I hated it so not sure why I’m defending it 😆
BUT was her (ridiculous) reasoning that Miles wouldn’t love David as much because because they might never quite bond, and so he would be less at risk from Miles than Theo would have been. Because she said about him hurting the people he loved most.

Lurleene · 10/01/2025 00:05

Was the doctor in the court suggesting that Theo had inherited psychopathic / sociopathic traits from Miles?

12purplepencils · 10/01/2025 00:09

Yes - kind of, and that Maddie and Pete were good parents.

I think that, along with the appearance of the Mum - were to build up the picture of him as a sociopath.

Lurleene · 10/01/2025 00:13

Well I hope little David will be safe from Theo as they grow up then or we will be back for a sequel. :(

12purplepencils · 10/01/2025 00:16

Yes I did find myself thinking that cute little Theo is going to be a bloody nightmare to parent as he gets older with those sociopathic tendencies like his dad

12purplepencils · 10/01/2025 00:16

Watch out David!

beachcitygirl · 10/01/2025 01:19

Brilliant book. Love all of JP Delaney's books.
Tv show was shite - I constantly shouted at telly "phone the police "
Binged and loved it though. So don't look to me as any kind or judge

I think so, which seemingly is based off him hitting once at nursery 😂 dread to think what they would say about mine!

charmingpenguin · 10/01/2025 07:07

Did Miles give Pete/Maddy the baby monitor because it's one you can log into from a phone - implication that he (Miles) was spying on them through it?

Maddy seemed to be thinking about things that miles had said to her 'eg. Having a Maddie moment' and talking about her PND- was there some implication that he had accessed her medical records to use them against her?

No it was about his attachment I think too,
that he wasn’t bothered being separated from his parents
