A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. I have been pondering why I enjoyed the first episode of When Stars Gossip so much.

First up Gong (Kong?) Hyo Jin is a wonderful actress. She leavens everything she’s in. She has a kind of playfulness that lifts the mood and the light comedy side to this plays to her strengths. I’m so happy to see her back on screen.

Second, I like LMH so much more as a slightly dorky misfit. He was insufferable in King: The Eternal Monarch, but I’m seeing a different side to him in this.

The star-studded cast is a gift. I feel like Christmas has come all over again. The budget must have been astronomical to cast talent like Lee El in a supporting role. I like the ?Spanish pilot too - the three way dynamic in the rocket is fun.

I am awaiting arrival at the space station keenly to see who else they’ve cast & how the plot will develop. As DH said, it can’t just be a straight romance. What’s the humanity-saving mission LMH has been tasked with? There has to be more going on and the drip-feed is tantalising.

I have a complaint - today's AO is so 😘 that surely he should move up to AO? I know, I know...the competition is fierce. Meanwhile, I'm here for the belly button porn today, Fedup

I’ve just watched episode 2 of When the Stars Gossip and I can’t decide whether it’s refreshingly original or preposterous.
There’s no way Commander Eve could have carried out her threat to Dr Gong on a space ship!

It’s swerved into bonkers territory. Ep 1 won DH round with the gentle pacing, great zero gravity effects and engaging cast. Today he was laughing his head off at the mouse CPR and complaining it was too slow. I fear he’s already out. Shame, as I thought we might finally have found one we could watch together.

I've started The Tale of Lady Ok and the old idea that a single facial mole transforms you into a completely different looking person is revived and rampaging in Ep1.
