A quiet corner of MN for serious addicts of Kdrama, or the K-curious. Most of our viewing is drawn from Netflix and Viki, with a sprinkling of AmazonPrime, AppleTV and Disney+. There are also platforms streaming content illegally if you go looking. We don’t promote them as they are peppered with pop-ups of “Olga” and friends offering a good time, but we can point you in the right direction. We also dip into Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese drama as & when.

Our list is cumulative so includes recommendations and favourites from all previous threads. Shows marked with a star are more uniformly loved or admired. In categorising series, its important to note most Korean dramas have multiple strands - e.g. supernatural, romance and a thriller; crime series with fantasy elements. Genre-busting mash-ups are normal. Series that are tagged as dark may also have moments of comedy or the absurd, likewise fluff can have heavier moments. Writer/actor Simon Pegg referred to it fondly as “tonal chaos” - it’s part of kdrama’s charm. View the categories below as best approximate & ask if you need guidance about suitability for younger viewers.

Glad I'm not the only one confused about DoJae and baddie and how they met. Hopefully will be explained before the end but maybe not ...

As for Saeon's parentage - it was definitely mentioned at some point that the grandfather asked the fisherman to raise fake Saeon - why would he do that if he wasn't connected to the family in some way? And when the parents were arguing, the mum said that neither the dad or baddie took after the grandfather in such a way that made me think there was something else unsaid. And then she said something about 'that son' and it showed (fake) Saeon's portrait. I could be wrong, of course. But if not, who were his parents and how did he end up with the fisherman??

On Love Your Enemy, i need to watch the last two episodes (had to actually socialise with real humans in the last few days which severely impacted my viewing) but agree that it started off good and I loved the two leads but it just petered out to nothing - such a shame.

I like his bonkers cartoonist in the webtoon drama that I can’t remember the name of. He’s certainly getting a lot of work and seems to be having fun with his roles.

I think my favourite is probably his Yoda-like Master Lee in Alchemy of Souls.

What a great choice FedUp! He is one class act. I thought he was excellent in Vincenzo. I am with Saram, would love to see him get a ML role but then maybe he prefers to work a lot? I notice that the big ticket MLs often have fallow periods, assume the make enough $$$s from being a ML and the endorsements that they can cope?

MrsF, I have been reading far far too many mems like that as well. I am still 'itchy' about Sang Woo, but want him to be a goody as I like the 2ndML/FL coupling. While waiting for the next episodes I have started on Dr John with the gorgeous Ji Sung.

I've just finished ep3 of Rented in Finland and after finding it a bit slow to begin with it's starting to grow on me as the actors are starting to relax around each other more. I don't know how much of these shows are scripted/ contrived - quite a lot, I suspect - but it's still making me laugh and the pixelated scrambled eggs was a nice touch, the audience definitely needed protecting from the horror that was unfolding in that frying pan 🤣🤣🤣

I'm on the last episode of 100 Days My Prince. Normally I give warnings to the family to leave me alone but I'm barely even looking at the screen. I'm really not invested in this at all but staying in bed with a coffee and a kdrama is a good way to spend this dreary NYD. I'm hoping DH will forget his plan for us to go shopping and we can carry on with Welcome to Samdal-Ri instead

Wow, I wouldn't recognise Kim Won-hae from that photo. He was great in A Virtuous Business. When he made that bet with his wife you just knew we were going to see it as he's such a game actor (if you've seen it you'll know what I'm talking about 😁)
