Whoop. Finally it is here. I love these paradise programmes

BBC and its upcoming Death in Paradise (www.radiotimes.com/tv/drama/death-in-paradise-season-14-release-date-bbc/) spin-off
Return to Paradise, which will whisk viewers away to the sunny shores of Australia.

The story follows DI Mackenzie Clarke (played by Anna Samson), who returns to her small Aussie hometown after years working in London for the Metropolitan Police for the last 6yrs after she fled the town after dumping fiancé Glenn at the alter (heartless woman lol)

She gets a less-than-warm welcome from those she alienated when she moved away, but a murder case that leaves the community stumped could be her pathway to redemption.

Her story will partly revolve around former love Glenn Strong (played by Tai Hara), who she abruptly left behind years ago, breaking his heart – can their relationship be salvaged when she returns?

She also left london under a cloud of suspicion

DI Clarke will be partnered up with Detective Colin Cartwright, played by British actor Lloyd Griffith (Ted Lasso (www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/ted-lasso-season-4-release-date/)), who appears to bring some comic relief, keeping the show firmly on
the quirky side – just like preceding entries in the Paradise family.

The supporting cast also includes Aaron L McGrath and Celia Ireland as Constable Felix Wilkinson and Reggie Rocco respectively, inhabitants of the idyllic, fictional town of Dolphin Cove.

It seems that Return to Paradise won't be skimping on the 'Paradise' element, with most of these images showcasing the stunning beaches and glorious weather of its Australian locale.

This is the second spin off from death in paradise

The first being beyond paradise with Humphrey in Devon

I hope this will be as good as love an easy watching murder and for an hour - 2hrs tax my brain 😂

I spotted it this time, right down to the other gun and the "silencer".
It's so rare to see a blown out tyre these days that it had to be a plot point.

The lead character is so deeply irritating and her stupid 'hands in pockets' stance is really annoying me! Her acting is limited to blank looks, staring eyes and sucked in cheeks, and the relationship with her ex is awful.
Fran from Strictly Ballroom (fantastic film) was playing Helen in Fridays episode.

Yes! All of this. Why on earth there's any hint of a love lost between her and the ex, I just can't fathom. If he ditches his new fiancé for her that will be a step too far for me.

RaraRachael · 22/12/2024 23:14

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't stand the lead character.
I'm afraid she was the deal breaker for me.

Zonder · 22/12/2024 23:17

Sadly for me too. I'm only still watching because my DH likes it.

It's not really believable though...there's no chemistry between them and she just does the wide eyes thing coupled with a weird bit of emotion for a few seconds tonight.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2024 09:52

It's not believable how many people get killed weekly 😂😂

I think it suffers compared to Beyond Paradise by focussing only on murder rather than mysteries. Where do all these people , apparently unknown to each other, come from in such as small town .

Not as bad as midsomer murders. You wouldn't want to live in those villages.

Very true @Zonder

Scary place !!

I have not watched RTP yet as figured it'd be cringe worthy (like Neighbors) and being an Australian that irks me. It'd have to be good if it beats DIP. Does it? I see Ardal O'Hanlon is also in the cast of Return. His character Jack and Humphrey (Kris Marshall) were my two fave cops in DIP. I am still watching repeat repeats of this fabulous show.

Zonder · 14/12/2025 04:38

Definitely not better. Ardal is barely in it (although I haven't seen the last episode of the series yet). I think it would be ok if it wasn't for the main character. She looks like she's sucking lemons throughout and has nothing believable about her. I think she's meant to be some kind of quirky yet cute person but she just comes over as strange and wooden. Plus the music is nothing special, compared with the ukulele island music of Dip and the English folk of BP.
