Ee is really good at the moment with Linda and her drinking

The realisation that you can't help someone who doesn't want help

They have to hit Rock bottom

I hope the Linda story concludes soon, it's all so grim.

Me too!

But I have to admit, it's good to see Elaine finally putting her foot down and getting everyone else involved to back her up too.

Couldn't get over how much older Linda looked without all her slap on tonight. Almost like Elaine was too young to be her mum kind of thing!

Very touching scene with Linda in the bath. It's like she's regressed into being a little girl again and the shock of her dad being gay still hasn't worn off 😐

MouldOrPaintOnlyOneWayToFindOut · 12/12/2024 23:35

Yeah, I hadn't watched tonight's episode when I posted.
Yeah, thank goodness it all seems to be coming to some sort of peak now.
I love Elaine, she's such a brilliant character.
I googled her age, she's 67 - she looks great 😍

Someone asked earlier re Natalie Cassidy being off for so long. She's doing a new show on either C4 or C5, and took time off to do it. Not sure whether she took the job as a result of knowing Sonia would be in jail for X amount of time or vice versa.

The Bianca storyline is a bit mad now. Have I missed something or has nobody noticed she's vanished? I know Reiss could tell people that she's headed off somewhere but surely Sonia would be wondering where she is and why she's had zero contact from her

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/12/2024 00:00

Ir must be very cold in that garage

Can't imagine reiess gave her a heater

And smelly

When I hurt my ankle w s had in plaster and no weight allowed on it so had a commode

What utterly magnificent acting from Harriet Thorpe last night. Usually I feel she's a bit OTT, but last night was so emotional. It echoed the scene from a few years back when Stacey had a bipolar episode and Jean bathed her. Heartbreaking.

the80sweregreat · 13/12/2024 06:35

It was a harrowing episode yesterday
Well acted, but hard to watch

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 13/12/2024 08:25

I thought it was so well done. The bit in the bath really was quite sad.

Do alcoholics really get that bad?

the80sweregreat · 13/12/2024 09:26

Linda has been drinking since 2019 I think?
I remember that awful New Year's party round Grays ( he was away at the time ) and she went off in a car with a man to a hotel wrecked , she was awful then.
She would be yellow by now in real life , despite the odd months when she stayed dry.
I suppose some do get very bad like Linda has this week.
My late sil had a drink problem for many years and ended up in hospital. She was a functioning alcoholic up to that point
She couldn't stay off it for too long without a relapse though. They think they can handle just one drink , but they can't :(

Yes sadly they do

The physical effects of heavy and sustained drinking will differ from person to person. My MIL was an alcoholic, she never turned yellow but had a lot of problems with her stomach/ ulcers/ internal bleeding. Sadly this entrenched her in delusions that she wasn't an alcoholic as she "wasn't yellow" or "didn't need a liver transplant like George Best", this was despite the doctors telling her that she had less than 2 years to live if she didn't stop.

There's a very good documentary on people struggling with alcoholism called "Rain in my heart", it's available on you tube, if anybody is interested.

Maybe alcohol won't kill Linda, maybe she will stumble upon Bianca while trying to find somewhere to crash. Then either save her or be killed by Reece, he can become some sort of cardigan serial killer (how many people do you need to kill before you are a serial killer?).

MouldOrPaintOnlyOneWayToFindOut · 13/12/2024 10:57

Re alcoholics getting so bad, I think what confuses me with the Linda storyline is that any alcoholics I've known haven't ever behaved as though they were blind drunk due to having a tolerance for it but also because their bodies actually needed it so they didn't crash.
Obv all are different but I've personally not known one who behaves like they're constantly drunk

the80sweregreat · 13/12/2024 11:05

It's been a cack handed way of telling the public what can happen to someone who constantly goes back to drinking heavily or is already an alcoholic
A kind of soap version of a government information film if you like
Unnatural, dangerous behavior ( she has gone off with two men since she started drinking ) putting young kids at risk , soiling yourself , not listening to anyone, showing yourself up and so on and on. Of course Linda's had much more to deal with than the average person has too.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/12/2024 11:58

I believe 3 @RareLemur

Yes, 3, but not all at once, that's a spree killer.

the80sweregreat · 13/12/2024 12:12

According to the internet it's 3 to be a serial killer

RareLemur · 13/12/2024 12:16

In my experience of having an alcoholic in the family it was a bit of everything, most was somewhat being a functional alcoholic but we also had episodes of them downing a bottle of Vodka or Bacardi and then they were abusive/ranting, soiling/vomiting, etc so not unlike the Linda behaviour. The going off with random blokes is not uncharacteristic of an addict either as they will follow whoever is providing them with what they crave want and some of those people will be doing it to take advantage/ sleep with them.

the80sweregreat · 13/12/2024 12:19

My late sil managed a full time job around her drinking. Some manage better than others ( and she used to drink spirits not just wine )

1975wasthebest · 13/12/2024 13:35

I felt it was thought provoking that Sharon and Phil said you have to let the alcoholic get to rock bottom. I can imagine this would be really scary when it’s someone you love as it could obviously lead to the the worst possible outcome - the death of that person. Then again you have to put your own oxygen mask on first.

I dunno. She’s been through a hell of a lot in a decade and doesn’t have much of a support network around her. She’s also just found out her dad was gay.

It's awful

You have to kick out /ignore /take no notice of their behaviour while Hoping this will be the last time you have to do it

Or you grow stronger and say this is it - no more

How many weeks pregnant is Lauren?

I thought she was only a few weeks pregnant but if they are talking about the baby moving she must be further along.

How long ago did she sleep with Zack?

I thought Linda's hair was lovely when it was freshly washed and down to her shoulders. Far nicer than that awful bun!

Cattery · 13/12/2024 17:02

Yeh that bun is so dated.
