I have literally put the first episode on just before I saw this post!

HyggeTyggeDotCom · 27/09/2024 13:07

Really enjoying it! Very easy viewing

hopeishere · 27/09/2024 16:26

Very easy to watch. The main woman character is unlikeable though I guess that's the point. Ditto the Rabbi's brother.

KylieKangaroo · 27/09/2024 17:11

I really like it so far. Adam Brody is ageing very well 😍

readingmakesmehappy · 27/09/2024 17:49

2 episodes in and I cannot wait to watch more. Loved it.

tribpot · 27/09/2024 17:53

Fab, this is on my list for the weekend. Sort of the antidote to Slow Horses 😆

MassiveOvaryaction · 27/09/2024 18:53

Thanks for the recommendation, wanted something to get into over the weekend!

LunaNorth · 27/09/2024 18:54

I’m obsessed. On Episode 7 and I only started it yesterday. I love the Rabbi and also his brother 😳

Karmaisagod · 27/09/2024 22:23

Loving this too! Found it by chance thus evening and I'm on episode 5. It is properly funny and sexy, right?

EachandEveryone · 28/09/2024 22:07

I’m on the second one and loving it. However, the face lift or too much Botox is distracting me Kristen is a gorgeous woman I will never understand how these women can’t see it when they look in the mirror. And I’m sure it’s addictive once you get on that path.

the sister is just rude. I hope she becomes nicer.

OP posts:
KylieKangaroo · 28/09/2024 22:19

I was thinking that too, I thought she's mid 40's and has no wrinkles!

readingmakesmehappy · 29/09/2024 08:42

Finished it and loved it. I would have liked a bit more of their podcast throughout.

I also don't think Noah made the right choice at the end

jamtarty · 29/09/2024 18:23

Got so excited when I saw this, I’m Jewish with rabbis in the family and DH is not. Also I’ve just finished the new series of Veronica Mars and I’m not happy so this feels like a nice thing to go onto.

Two episodes in and I’m loving it so far!

jamtarty · 29/09/2024 18:53

That said, I think this review makes some good points: www.glamour.com/story/netflixs-nobody-wants-this-and-the-persistent-jewish-stereotype

I've followed the Foster sisters for a while on Instagram (Erin is the creator/Joanne, Sara is exec producer) and Sara does come across as a bit narcissistic so thought the actress playing that part had it spot on!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 29/09/2024 18:58

Binged the show. Me and DH enjoyed it.
Bow we are on to ludwig

ButterflyBitch · 29/09/2024 19:19

I’ve just finished it. Really enjoyed it and Adam Brody grew up fine! Disappointed that we don’t even know if there’ll be a second series yet though.

jamtarty · 29/09/2024 19:36

I’m also loving the fact they’ve got cast members from Veronica Mars and The Good Place.

Diecast · 29/09/2024 19:40

Love, love, love Timothy Simons, find him hilarious. I was distracted by Kristen Bell's facial work, she just looks so different and odd.

LunaNorth · 29/09/2024 19:43

I finished it today. On the whole, I liked it. I liked the relationship between the sisters, thought Noah was adorable, liked the gay dad and the brave mum.

It relied a lot on stereotypes though. And most of the female characters were unpleasant - especially the Jewish ones. And I can’t believe they’re still making accidental pork jokes.

I would have liked more podcast, too!

jamtarty · 29/09/2024 20:08

Adam Brody is so beautiful

KylieKangaroo · 29/09/2024 21:28

He really is. He was the only reason I watched the OC all those years ago!

I’d never noticed before!

I’ve been bingeing this all afternoon and it’s been so feelgood in spite of the issues mentioned above. One thing missing though is the whole concept of being a rabbi’s wife - that can be a job in itself eg they get hired as the rabbi and rebitzen.

readingmakesmehappy · 30/09/2024 08:44

@jamtarty we finally get a bit of the idea of the rabbi's wife at the very idea.
I can't quite believe Joanne knows so little that the word shiksa is unfamiliar and she has no idea about shabbat at all.

I can't quite believe Joanne knows so little that the word shiksa is unfamiliar and she has no idea about shabbat at all.

I grew up in an orthodox Jewish household and know lots of Jewish people, and I had to look up the term shiksa as I’d not heard it.

I can understand Joanne not knowing about Shabbat. I was more surprised that she didn’t know the charcuterie board would be a problem. And that she wouldn’t have discussed her gift with him first.

That said, being rude to guests is a big deal in Judaism and I’m annoyed at the reaction. I get that it was meant to be about Noah’s family disapproving of Joanne vs Rebecca, but it came off badly.
