GRACE s4 - SUN ITV 9pm - TV PACE NO SPOILERS

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/08/2024 20:22

Grace season 4 will begin on Sunday, September 1 at 8 pm on ITV1, with the remaining three episodes scheduled to follow on subsequent Sundays. The series will not be box-setted.

The fourth season is available in the US on BritBox, after premiering on July 2, 2024.

Based on the bestselling novels by Peter James, the crime show follows the exploits of DS Roy Grace, who has been haunted for over a decade by the disappearance of his wife Sandy.

In recent years he's found happiness with forensic pathologist Cleo Morey (Zoe Tapper), but will that happiness last?

That's one of the many questions we hope will be answered in the fourth series of this detective drama, which is filmed in Brighton and the surrounding areas.

With Grace's girlfriend Cleo Morey discovering she's pregnant and his estranged wife Sandy seemingly trying to prove that he's also the father of her child, it's fair to say the detective could have his hands full in the fourth series!

E1 The first film in the new series is called 'Dead Man’s Time'. A vicious robbery at a secluded Brighton home, draws Grace and Branson into a puzzling enquiry when thousands of pounds worth of beautiful antiques are stolen from the house.

As Grace digs deeper into this mysterious crime, he unearths a web of ancient grudges - a web which leads him down a dark, murderous trail through the world of Brighton antiques, in a race against the clock, to untangle who is at the heart of this robbery, and bring Gavin Daly the answers he has been desperately chasing for many years.

E2 - "In episode two, 'Want You Dead', Grace and Branson investigate a case where nothing is truly as it first appears. When an unidentified victim is found dead in curious circumstances, the post mortem reveals more questions than it does answers.

As Grace works to identify the body, hoping this might provide some crucial clue as to the killer’s motive, he soon has another death on his hands when a second victim shows up in central Brighton, discovered in similarly bizarre circumstances."

E3 - "'You Are Dead' is episode three in which Grace and Branson are thrown into what is possibly their most disturbing and high-profile case yet, when an unsettling discovery of skeletal remains is unearthed by workmen digging up a path in central Brighton.

Meanwhile, across the city that same morning, a victim is snatched in broad daylight. With no witnesses and no sign of who took her, Grace starts to suspect whether the victim’s fiancé is lying to the police.

E4 - The final episode in the series is 'Love You Dead'. When a known Brighton burglar is found dead in his car, in gruesome circumstances, his wife claims that he had turned over a new leaf, but all the evidence points to the fact the victim may still have been up to his old tricks and was breaking and entering on the night he was killed.

As Grace and the team work to hone in on the circumstances leading to the victim’s death, Roy receives a call from a US police contact about a crime abroad which bears the hallmarks of a mafia hit. The police are keen to trace a woman they believe to be from Brighton, who could be in danger.

As Roy scours the city to help find her, it becomes apparent he isn’t the only one looking for this mysterious woman."

ITV will have adapted 12 of Peter James' 19 Roy Grace novels after the end of season four, which means we could have a couple of seasons yet to come at least — and potentially a spin-off series based on Sandy!

Sorry, my previous comment wasn't meant to be a spoiler. I thought the storyline had already been covered in a previous programmes. I haven't read the books so I just have been confused with a different series.

I was confused by the burglar. so he broke it to the massively expensive house that had no security alarms. broke something, got poisoned and the owner never noticed!!

the random small pier in Brighton threw me too lol

She knew, she planned it that way. We saw a video of her saying something like "you didn't get the right usb and sorry I doctored the glove".

daffodilandtulip · 24/09/2024 06:35

I've just seen they've commissioned series five 😊

She did notice because she had to buy a new vivarium. I think that is now they traced where she was living in Brighton.

Thanks that makes sense now.

Watching on catch up, I love the team, they have a lovely vibe together, it makes a change for the police to talk to each other politely. I wish the plots were better though, they honestly seem completely barking. Just finished episode three, that was horrible. One more to go.

duc748 · 24/09/2024 17:07

That was the best one!

Horrible if you're claustrophobic! Hate things where people are shut in boxes or coffins 😬.
how did the murderer survive having a huge beam falling on his chest followed by a brick fall? come on………
anyway, finished watching the series now, I still enjoyed it (apart from the third one!).

JenniferBooth · 24/09/2024 22:10

So this Crisp bloke will likely pop up again at a later date

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2024 08:20

Yes likely @JenniferBooth

Does anyone else find Norman strangely attractive in the TV series?

He's not as obnoxious as he is in the books

I always felt that he couldn't be as obnoxious as he first appeared, given that Bella fell in love with him.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 16/09/2024 07:11

I was irrationally fixated on what they were doing for toileting, as they said the guy only came 2 or 3 x day with food.

ISTR the book was fairly graphic about that. In fact they clearly have to sanitise a lot of the nasties from the books, which I have to say I'm grateful for - I think Peter James is a good writer, but I skip those pages. They excised a particularly gruesome detail in Episode 3.

I think they could do with splitting the episodes and, if anything, going for more time. They cut an awful lot out of the books which is what makes the resolution seem rushed, and I think it also means that we lose a lot of the explanation and characterisation. There's a major storyline around Glenn that they seem to have decided to abandon, for instance, and it also looks like they're going to sacrifice another one around Norman. Given the way that other series like Shetland manage to spread one book over around six episodes, I'm surprised they chose to condense these so much.

duc748 · 25/09/2024 22:40

I can see that, absolutely. I haven't read the books, so I'm relying on what I'm watching, and Glenn seems an under-written, or poorly developed character. I felt like I didn't care about him, and his sub-plot seemed a distraction from the main story, but if I'd had more background, maybe I'd see reason to care.

Blondeshavemorefun · 25/09/2024 23:12

Who is Glenn

OP posts:
Coruscations · 26/09/2024 00:47

Glenn is the sidekick/ DI with the nurse wife.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 26/09/2024 07:39

I seem to remember that Glenn’s wife had an affair? Or am I thinking of another detective drama? I haven’t read the books is the story arc a spoiler or something that can be explained on here?

I finally caught up with Grace Season 4.
Episode 4 was very convoluted and I had no subtitles and I found it difficult to hear.
Thank goodness for this thread @Blondeshavemorefun as I was able to find the recap and comments. Flowers
So in the end Sandy commits suicide.
Will her son remain in the commune ?

Like you @Romeiswheretheheartis I wondered about the toileting in Episode 3.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/10/2024 09:31

I do love a recap 😂
