Second thread about the BBC Series.

I love that the boys won. They seemed like such good friends.

I'm watching the reunion now, it's nice. Lots of behind-the-scenes clips.

scissy · 29/05/2024 22:12

I'm going to save the reunion for tomorrow anyway - I let DD stay up for the final so I can't get away with watching the reunion on iPlayer before she's gone to sleep 😅

But I'm glad the boys won and I'm also glad everyone was able to finish. That was impressive skills from the siblings to get there with just over £1 left!

CrossPurposes · 29/05/2024 22:16

I'm intrigued as to why the times of arrival were blurred out unless it was just a clumsy way of blurring out the signatures.

Cardinalita90 · 29/05/2024 22:17

So enjoyed this series! Such a great range of countries, cultures and differing routes. I thought the couples were all a good mix too, even if slightly heavy on sob stories this time.

I love how Steve and Viv decided not to throw money at a taxi but went straight to the bar for beer and gin instead 😆Good on em!

OriginalFloorboards · 29/05/2024 22:17

Thoroughly enjoyed it. It was really good. They all did really well.

I’ll watch the reunion tomorrow now.

I think it was the latter, they are always careful to blur out the signatures and must have overdone it.

Not commented on this thread but loved this series. To be honest I found the boys really difficult to watch, they were so stressful and were focused on winning and seemed to get the least from the actual trip itself. But they are still babies really and did really well so I am happy for them that they won. Viv and Steve really grew on me and Betty and her brother were my favorites by the end. Both of these couples really seemed to get so much from the trip and were winners in that way.

clearingaspaceforthecat · 29/05/2024 22:22

Loved this series. Am so glad the boys won!

viques · 29/05/2024 22:30

Do other people wonder how foreign contestants would get on if they were doing the series in the Uk?Would they find people willing to put them up, feed them, drive them to places without charge, and generally put themselves out to help total strangers? Sadly I think they would find suspicion and unhelpful attitudes far more common than seems to be the case in so many of the places they visited, especially this series, so many of the people they met had relatively little materially by Western standards, but were overwhelmingly generous .

Yes the people, were,so kind and accommodating

awaynboilyurheid · 29/05/2024 22:37

Yes! So so glad the boys won!
We were cheering them on here , Alfies mum would be so proud!
Bit cheeky ( and not very Christian ) for Eugenie to tell the boys lies about their budget, but anyhoo she seems to at long last be getting in better with her daughter so they got something out of it.
Glad the others managed to finish , but relief the boys won!

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 29/05/2024 22:46

I’m glad the boys beat the women who lied about their finances and nicked the taxi in the previous episode. Cheats never prosper.

Icehockeyflowers · 29/05/2024 22:52

viques · 29/05/2024 22:00

I love that Betty and James only had about £1.48 left!

I know the boys won, but morally I think Eugenie and Isabel won , I am amazed at Eugenies energy and persistence, and the way they managed to keep up with the boys time, and manage to enjoy the countries and experiences that they had.

I found it very strange that Eugenie was praying they'd win. I grew up in a Christian house and that the usual thing would be to pray that the best outcome (whether that meant winning or not) would happen for them as opposed to winning.
I wonder why Viv and Steven didn't throw money at a taxi straight away. The minute they decided to take the train, they had lost.
I didn't care who won really as they all seemed nice people and it was and is a terrific programme which I thoroughly enjoyed watching.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 29/05/2024 22:53

Really loved this series. May watch series 2 again to remind myself of it. I backpacked around central and South America 35 many years ago. Happy happy days!

I think it depends where in the UK.
We have found uk people very helpful and approachable in some areas, but head to a busy city like London you aren't going to get that so much.

Our experience in some east Asian countries and Japan has been that people are incredibly friendly and helpful, keen to do anything for you.

In Malaysia we went not long after they reopened after Covid. It was like being a special exhibit in some ways with people taking photographs of us with their children, and practising their English on us. When we asked for directions people literally got their car and drove us to places, refusing any money/payment. Everyone was so helpful.

I would let people camp on my land for free if they helped me muck out the horses definitely, poo pick the fields etc

I just can’t drive them far as I get anxious. It would need to be to my mum’s, the local school, supermarket or the horse tack shop! Not sure I’d be much help!

I would also definitely hide the hunted people from the hunters programme too. I have so many conversations with myself on what I would say if they turned up at the door - particularly if I’m perimenopausal.

Everyone did really well. The production team must also be tired out too!

Longma · 29/05/2024 22:55

morally I think Eugenie and Isabel won

Is it moral to take someone else's taxi?

mitogoshi · 29/05/2024 23:02

@viques

I'm sure people would help them too, we offered accommodation to someone doing a charity walk recently, but turned out he had multiple other offers! Most people are kind and friendly

Stopsnowing · 29/05/2024 23:04

Dyslexia again

RainBow725 · 29/05/2024 23:04

Absolutely loved this series. And so pleased for the two boys. Really lovely to see their friendship. As a mum of young adult sons, it makes me very happy. One of best series I think.

Aslockton · 29/05/2024 23:16

I think the series 'Hunted' often shows the kindness of strangers in the UK.

They'd have a camera crew with them so people would know it was a TV programme.

ISeriouslyDoubtIt · 29/05/2024 23:28

Did anyone else notice that when they all signed into the book at the final destination 3 of the couples arrived on a pale smooth sandy beach and signed the book which was on a tree trunk in the empty sea, yet Betty and James arrived on a beach that seemed to be covered in rocks/seaweed( couldn't make out what they were) which extended into the sea too? Couldn't work out why that was when the beach and sea had miraculously returned to smooth sand and sea when Steve and Viv signed in.

The tide had gone out, it was the same place.
