Polite request for no spoilers prior to an act on stage please. Let's not ruin it for anyone who hasn't watched the semis.

Thanks for the new thread @RedToothBrush. Looking forward to Saturday.

JoshLymanSwagger · 10/05/2024 10:27

@RedToothBrush I'm gonna PM you.

ilovesooty · 10/05/2024 12:26

Thanks!

AutumnCrow · 10/05/2024 12:52

Thanks. I'm in two minds whether to watch or not, but it does seem like it's becoming historical as well as hysterical / political.

Thanks too for the other on-the-ground posts you've made on other threads, Red. Bon voyage for your journey home.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 10/05/2024 13:24

Thanks! I see they put Netherlands before Israel. Is that so we are so stunned by Netherlands we don’t actually properly watch Israel 🤔

AnneShirleysNewDress · 10/05/2024 15:43

I see that the Dutch act has been stopped from rehearsing until further notice due to an incident. Sky News aren't providing any information on what the incident is though.

Edited

I've been posting about this on the general Eurovision thread to keep this clear for the actual final tbh.

As it stands, there are a couple of rumoured circulating. I do think it will be extremely difficult for the EBU to throw him out of the contest but I wonder if he is willing to now perform after this tbh.

It's a mess.

We will know before the end of the night as the jury show is tonight. If he's a no show for that, then he's out of the competition.

I really enjoyed the semi-finals. IMO, the presenting team, VT's, and half-time acts were the best I've ever seen at Eurovision. I loved all the nostalgia and I actually laughed at some of the jokes. The staging was, of course, impressive but I miss the days of good old-fashioned props. No amount of CGI can make up for a genuine piano on fire. Anyway, it bodes well for the quality of the final. Still not sure who I want to win. Switzerland was my favourite of the favourites and I developed a soft spot for Estonia.

EsmaCannonball · 10/05/2024 17:57

Oh, and Spain. Spain was very Eurotrash. Good fun.

Villagetoraiseachild · 10/05/2024 18:28

Yes! Also have a wee crush on Estonia!

Villagetoraiseachild · 10/05/2024 18:33

Could you pls define spoiler in this context@RedToothBrush

More if you know what's going to happen in the staging or costumes, keep it to a minimum until the act is on stage. Just trying not to spoil surprises for anyone who hasn't watched acts yet.

There is another general thread for all other discussion here (Inc spoilers)

Gotcha. Cheers!
And have a wonderful time!

Latest unconfirmed rumour is Dutch flag removed from dressing room. Malta to compete in final. Not clear what has happened. Or if this is true but looking increasingly like Joost will not compete.

If I hear more I will post an update.

I've nothing to do but follow this story for the next two hours.

OP posts:
Appalonia · 10/05/2024 23:26

Who do pp think will win? Latest stats I've seen has put Croatia first and Israel second. Do pp think this is accurate?

EsmaCannonball · 11/05/2024 01:03

I really don't like Eurovision getting political but I have to say that I thought that journalist's question to Eden Golan was disgraceful. Implying that if terrorists attack the contest she will be responsible is cruel victim-blaming. If an attack does happen that will be the fault of the terrorists for doing it, the Swedish authorities for not stopping it and the terrorist sympathisers for creating the atmosphere that foments it. Swedish politics and national security is not Eden Golan's responsibility and if the Swedes can't make the event safe, that is on them.

RedToothBrush · 11/05/2024 07:06

State of play: Joost did not play at the jury final last night due to an ongoing investigation. Instead his semi 2 performance was played and the jury will judge him on this if he is allowed to stay in the competition. Dutch media report the police have been involved to see if a crime has been committed.

Rest of the world voting was supposed to open last night but has been postponed indefinitely. There is no word on when it will open.

Bambi Thug did press interviews after the show in a Palestinian shawl, which is against the rules. No word on whether action will be taken.

Other contestants seem to been increasingly frustrated and have made comments about peace since Thursday's press conference.

It is hoped that if the EBU do allow Joost to perform he will be able to rehearse this morning behind closed doors.

We are awaiting official word on the situation and clarification on these issues (and possibly other concerns).

I think it's not really going to plan...

OP posts:
Choux · 11/05/2024 09:33

Bambie Thug is being quite outspoken about the EBU and Israel.
Also there is a clip of Eden of Israel being told she didn't need to answer the journalist's question and someone blind shouts 'why not'. Is that Joost?

The Israeli song was previously called October Rain but is now called Hurricane. I've not heard it but it sounds like it may have previously had a political message?

Yes, and it has been reported that the Israeli broadcaster KAN initially refused to budge on it and the President of Israel Isaac Hertzog ended up intervening.

Israel to change Eurovision song's name, lyrics amid political pressure

KAN will change the lyrics to Israel's 2024 Eurovision song submission, "October Rain," and its runner-up "Dance Forever" in order to allow the country to participate in the song contest.

Joost disqualified

OP posts:
GrandTheftWalrus · 11/05/2024 12:04

Just marking my place for tonight.

InWalksBarberalla · 11/05/2024 12:45

Bit worried about how the night is going to go. Such a shame.

SocksAndTheCity · 11/05/2024 13:17

If a country is disqualified does the next one from the semi final (so whoever was eleventh) get to do it, or do they go ahead with fewer acts?

I'd settle for extra Moomins.
