Welcome back! Time for more Eurovision…

I bring good news; after last year’s absence the key change is back! Whoop! (See if you can spot it)

Tonight has folk, fairytales and well No Limits. No. No. No. No. No. No. Limits. Theres lots of circles

This year is a bit different to previous years. The BIG FIVE plus the HOST all perform like the other contestants at all three semi final performance as part of the main show to try and level the playing field. France, Spain and Italy will perform in Semi 2.

Don’t miss: Bookies 2nd Fav Switzerland, Spain, jury tempter Italy and roof-raiser Netherlands. There’s a few other half decent songs tonight too to please Eurovision fans. It WILL be better than Tuesday!

Out of the other 16 entries, only 10 will go through to the final. The semi-final is TELEVOTE ONLY.

After the conclusion of Semi 2, the qualifying finalists will be drawn into THREE lots. Four will draw ‘First Half’, Five will draw ‘Second Half’ and the remainer will be ‘Producers Choice’ and can be placed anywhere in the show. Sweden has already drawn their order for the final and will perform 1st. The Big Five also have already been drawn - UK and Germany got first half. France got second half. Italy and Spain got producers choice. The producers will put out the running order for the Final in the early hours of Friday morning (it’s usually before 1am UK time). The Final is TELEVOTE AND JURY VOTE.

DON’T FORGET YOUR SUBTITLES

Because «united by music» is bullshit when a genocide is going on and she can’t just pretend it isn’t happening.

That is a summary of her statement.

AutumnCrow · 11/05/2024 15:23

Joost has been disqualified on the basis of an unproven (as yet) allegation. It's under investigation and that process will apparently take weeks, and we have little detail.

Other performers are now making allegations about the behaviour of the Israeli delegation and the EBU. Can these be reasonably disposed of by the EBU in just a few hours? The clock is ticking.

Perhaps the performers are trying to highlight the disparity in treatment.

Statement from Dutch tv about incident with Joost

Eurovision Semi Final 2 - No Spoilers
MushMonster · 11/05/2024 17:32

If that is what happened and there was not any actual aggression from his part, the organisation is very over the top, by several miles. Yeah, he is in a contest and he could have been more polite. But why was her filming him at that point and insisting on doing so? They never ever have shown any images of the artist leaving the stage that I can recall.
And I am not surprised other contestants are not happy at all about this.

ScribblingPixie · 11/05/2024 18:07

But why was her filming him at that point and insisting on doing so?

If her instructions from her bosses were to film contestants coming off stage, it would make sense that her priority was to do her job properly. It doesn't say anything in the Dutch statement about him having an agreement not to be filmed. Surely if that were true then that is what he would have said to the camerawoman rather than just that he didn't want to be filmed. An unpleasant situation for her.

MushMonster · 11/05/2024 18:18

Well, that is it, I do not recall them ever broadcasting anyone leaving the stage, or cleaning the stage, or putting up any stage. So why being there to film it?
There is a petition going on to get him back.
I really do not see how this grants him being removed from the competition. Also, as it is filmed, why have they not provided the images? There will be clear unequivocal records of what actually happened.

Threatening behaviour is an offence in the UK.

It seems it's also an offence in Sweden.

Filming someone against their wishes is also an offence in Sweden

And?

StickyStones · 11/05/2024 18:38

@EasterIssland he's participating in the Eurovision, in signing up surely that means he's agreeing to the terms of the EBU which no doubt means they're allowed film them coming off stage?

I'm so disappointed this has happened, I really liked Joost's song. The whole thing is a mess.

MushMonster · 11/05/2024 18:40

Show us the film of the incident. Then we can judge for ourselves how bad this was.
Also, it says "against clearly made agreements", so the camera should have not been there.
But, words are far too confusing in these matters. Let's see that film.

Apparently it was the second time she'd done the same thing.

If the 'clearly made agreements' were reasonable adjustments for Joost's neurodiversity, which were then unilaterally abandoned last minute, then that's very, very poor.

And given the organisational shitshow that this ESC has been all round, I can imagine it being the case that Joost was dropped unexpectedly into an unwanted, unwarranted, unfair, and (for him) unbearable situation.

MushMonster · 11/05/2024 18:53

The petition is going strong for Joost!
Votes are coming in really fast.
Comments include "I love how all of Europe is coming together"
He was tearful at the end of his performance. We all saw that. I bet you he was crying or nearly crying when the camera (that should not be there) was recording him.

StickyStones · 11/05/2024 19:05

Ah I see, thanks @RedToothBrush, well in that case it's a different story.

I just read elsewhere it was a mobile phone. Is she a camera woman or a mobile phone woman?

StickyStones · 11/05/2024 19:05

@MushMonster do you have a link to the petition?

I googled 'Joost + petition' and it's on Change dot org.

(I don't think we're allowed to link to petitions on here.)

Edited to say: obviously I was very wrong Grin
