Definite bollocks from Michelle!!

Chrysanthemum5 · 30/04/2024 20:58

Oh well. I'd have made a different choice

Fordian · 30/04/2024 20:59

Sadly she'll disappear without trace; Matt will be heading up a successful design business in 10 years.

Seaside3 · 30/04/2024 21:00

No wonder they don't seem to attract any really good established interior design masters when they consistently over look the better designer.

PuppyMonkey · 30/04/2024 21:01

I knew she’d pick Roisin - and her style has grown on me. But Matt should have won and he’ll have a massive career anyway.

Zebracat · 30/04/2024 21:01

.I love colour but that room was too much, half yellow and half wallpapered. At least she didn’t put up the curtains because they went with nothing. And all those scallops. I did prefer her bedrooms though. That black bedroom gave me the ick. I’d have been passing a uv light over it. But I think Matt is a better designer.

This. the old programme actually produced designers that went on to do stuff.

I last used La Redoute to buy toddler clothes (DD is now doing A levels). Is it back again?

I hope the winner goes on to succeed, but I suspect that Matt will get more commissions.

Seaside3 · 30/04/2024 21:04

@Netaporter there's no way roisin is an interior design master. Lovely, bright and cheerful. But matt understood his clientel, the space much better.

Yes, I used to buy clothes from there in the mid nineties, but I have bought some lovely home bits from there recently, cushions, a nest of tables and plant pots.

Doingmybest12 · 30/04/2024 21:13

Love Michelle's dress. If only Matt had bigger sqishy sofas and he may have won. I thought the kitchen work tops looked a bit boring as well against the black and gold. Didn't like Roisin's hallway and scallops , too many wall papers.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 30/04/2024 21:16

Well.

I would definitely hire Matt but, ironically, I'd ban him from using black as I hate it.

Dulra · 30/04/2024 21:16

I prefer Matt's style more my cup of tea BUT I think most people (me included) struggle to know how to use colour or are too scared to, so I do think Roisin has a market there but I don't see her progressing much from domestic clients. Matt is more likely to get a good design career out of it, possibly more corporate/ retail/ hospitality sectors

shearwater2 · 30/04/2024 21:19

Love Roisin but thought Matt's was better in the final. I would have a headache with her bright colours, imagine if you had a hangover! I couldn't stay there.

Sparticle · 30/04/2024 21:25

DD11 and I love IDM but we both absolutely hated Roisin's design. Awful awful awful.

Seaside3 · 30/04/2024 21:25

I see they're advertising roisins new range already.
And guess what? It's floral.

JennyForeigner · 30/04/2024 21:25

Roisin's buying just vibes so cheap to me. Bedrooms with polyester throws on the beds, cheap curtains and orange wood. I absolutely hate it.

Could have walked into Matt's lodge and been very happy with it as a holiday let. Pub in Woodstock and a bottle of merlot on a chi chi hen weekend. Jobs a good 'un.

Lampslights · 30/04/2024 21:27

I preferred roshines for the venue, considering people will only stay there a night or two. The bedrooms were lovely. It was stand out.

i do like matt’s style but i feel he struggles to add softness to it. That sofa for example looked small and uncomfortable. The designer was right, a bigger squishier sofa would have made all the difference. His seating was stingy.

he always makes things a little hard for my liking. I want comfort. Not to sit there on a hard seat.

We live near the auction house where they sell the overstock. Overpriced poor quality anthro-lite.

EmilyGilmoreenergy · 30/04/2024 21:35

I honestly am surprised by all the love for Matts final design, I have loved him all the way through but I think last week and this showed he has reached his limits and I don't think he has the eye for all the finished details yet in the way Roisin does.
Like an uncomfortable small sofa is quite a big factor and I can't believe no one commented on the ugly dark wires from his two little lamps right in the middle of the lounge space.
I don't think there was anything wow there from him it was all just nice in a posh hotel way but I'm not sure you'd stay there with a family.
I have no doubt he will be outstanding with more experience.

I did struggle to like Roisin's designs because I don't think it's not really innovative, you could recreate almost every look she's done at Dunelm (or any mainstream home shop) and that's because it's already an on trend look, bobbly mirrors- check, scalloped edges check, bright deep colour- check, velvet, botanicals ....

I think a real challenge would have been for them both to design something that's entirely not their signature look so R doing minimalist, because surely when you work with clients it's not always just doing your own style.

Davros · 30/04/2024 21:36

Didn't like either but Rosin's was hideous

OutOfTheHouse · 30/04/2024 21:38

I noticed that, it made me itch.

Seaside3 · 30/04/2024 21:39

@SoupDragon well its definitely bright. But as predicted weeks back, they chose the person who suited the prize. Not sure how matts work would translate to homewear.

usernother · 30/04/2024 21:48

If I was staying in one of the lodges, I'd want it calm and relaxing. Roisin's was neither. It was absolutely horrible imo.
