Loved series one. A friend from Belfast confirmed it is pretty spot on in regards to serving as a police officer there. Having to take time off work and just watched the first episode which I think was pretty strong. I will certainly not be waiting for weekly viewings!

JSMill · 15/04/2024 16:06

Is it on Iplayer?! I wish I'd known that earlier. I loved the last series (apart from the ending 😕).

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/04/2024 16:16

Yes it's all up on iPlayer I'm starting it soon

Oh god, I'm watching this and the non-spoilers thread. Terrified of making a mistake.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/04/2024 17:43

Surprised to see certain faces. Wonder where that subplot will go.

I'm trying to make this last a couple of days. I swear Charlie from Casualty was just in a scene!

I've just started it, loved the first series

willstarttomorrow · 16/04/2024 14:04

Bloody hell, Charlie from Casualty is in it! Apparently he is originally from NI but his accent is still shocking. Really enjoying it though despite his awful acting.

IwantToRetire · 16/04/2024 17:46

I've watched 3 episodes so far, and at first thought it a bit flat, but has certainly ratched up the drama now.

I am so bad even at the time watching a series at remembering who everyone is and their back stories that I am struggling a bit to work out who is who.

Wondered if anyone else has got this far and if so can you explain who the police man is who is called back in to help out and why there is tension between him and Sandra who I do remember. RIP Gerry.

But part of what makes Blue Lights so different from other UK series is of course the setting in Northern Ireland and the politics and history of the troubles. So close to the surface still.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/04/2024 18:19

@IwantToRetire

The guy who came back was involved in taking pointers off his own bat from the MI5 guy about which places could be out of bounds. It's partly his fault that they couldn't press more charges because some of it was covered over by the security services

I THINK that's correct, someone may be along to correct me. I'm on Episode 3.

thanks - yes that does help me remember. there were a number of different story lines and looking back I just remembered the big ones. Had forgotten that. the power plays by those meant to be running things, not considering those in the front line.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/04/2024 19:26

OMG Episode 4

He was shagging Jen last series

Thanks! I remembered she was sleeping with someone but pictured someone older, for some strange reason.

IwantToRetire · 17/04/2024 16:32

Anyone else watch all episodes now?

Would be interested to hear whether you thought it matched up to series 1, etc..

I would say that ......

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/04/2024 17:59

Don't really think that the Jen and Charlie From Casualty storyline has worked

One episode left

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/04/2024 19:45

Finished

A very satisfying ending

JSMill · 17/04/2024 20:34

I've watched up until episode 5. I have enjoyed it even more as I understand the characters more.

IwantToRetire · 18/04/2024 01:31

Just to say I dont think it lived up to series 1, although I did get more engrossed as it went along.

But ... I thought they let themselves down with a really cheesy happy ever after type ending.

All too neat and makes me wonder if there wont be a 3rd series.

Have some questions about some of the plot lines but too late to ask in a clear way.

Although was series 1 mainly about the loyalist / Protestant community?

TruthThatsHardAsSteel · 18/04/2024 01:51

I believe it's been signed for 2 more seasons. My husband and I watched it all in two nights. The petrol bomb scenes at the "don't break the line" scene was very very upsetting. I was inconsolable, it was all very real and very raw. I found a good few parts of it very very hard watching but then I'm a 70s child. I really loved it at the same time and found it very gripping.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 18/04/2024 08:33

@IwantToRetire

Series 1 was Catholic gangsters

Series 2 Loyalist

That's part of why they were all scandalised in the pub that he was working with Tina McIntyre
