Stuck in an anxiety spiral and looking for a really gentle tv drama show, I like Shetland and whitstable Pearl but stuck at something else. Even a film would help.

Any ideas? Thanks very much. Anxiety is shit.

What about a gentle comedy? As long as you can cope with something about grief (ot starts with the characters preparing to go to the funeral of the main character's husband then progresses over the next three years over the 3 series) Mum is excellent.

I've not watched it but lots of people love The Detectorists.

Or what about Ghosts? It's very warm hearted.

fortheloveoftoast · 14/04/2024 17:24

Why don't you try a comedy like Friday night dinner? Or a movie, bridesmaids or stepbrothers are two of my fav comedies☺️
Sorry to hear about your anxiety, deep breaths, you've got this

Jezzballs2000 · 14/04/2024 17:26

I've been watching the Durrells which is very gentle and nice. Hope you feel better soon x

unwatchthread · 14/04/2024 17:27

@Jezzballs2000 I was about to suggest the Durrells too. it's a gorgeous, gentle watch and I loved it when I was feeling quite down recently.

Hope you feel better soon.

ElleLeopine · 14/04/2024 17:28

Beyond Paradise would fit the bill nicely!

laughinggnome · 14/04/2024 17:32

Also popped on to say Detectorists too. Very gentle and funny.

DollyPlastic · 14/04/2024 17:45

I'll check all of these out. I've seen the detectorists, it's brilliant.

You're all so kind that I feel pretty tearful, thank you very much.

Ladies in Lavender is a lovely film starring Judi Dench and directed by Charles Dance.

Churchview · 14/04/2024 20:43

If you enjoyed Whitstable Pearl I think you will love The Marlow Murder Club.
Mrs Sidhu Investigates is also great.

For a film Hampstead is gentle and entertaining.

Salemforcuddles · 14/04/2024 20:50

Beyond paradise

Han1978 · 14/04/2024 20:57

If you like Shetland, have you tried Vera? Vera as a character is just brilliant!

Anoisagusaris · 14/04/2024 20:59

The Dectorists for sure. Even the theme tune is utterly soothing and calming.

Mrsjayy · 14/04/2024 21:01

I know I'm late to your thread but I second Vera. It's on itv I hope you find something. I also like Mcdonald and dodds its a detective series set in Bath its gentle Jason Watkins is in it. It will also itv

GoodVibesHere · 14/04/2024 21:02

Virgin River

Churchview · 14/04/2024 21:30

The Chelsea Detective

Bertiebadgers · 14/04/2024 21:42

When I was anxious/ depressed I used to watch:

Miranda
Antiques Road Trip
Agatha Christie adaptations
Rick Stein’s long weekend & other cooking/ travel programmes
Old films (BBC iPlayer has loads).

It’s horrible being anxious, hope you feel calmer soon OP.

Beyond Paradise would fit the bill nicely!

This is my go to. It’s utterly naff but not in the least stressful.

Upinthenightagain · 14/04/2024 21:47

When I’m anxious I watch those crap real house wives reality type programmes. Helps to watch what appear like totally self involved, frivolous types focusing on entirely inconsequential stuff.

horizontilting · 14/04/2024 21:51

I found Miranda great for company, if you're feeling a bit alone with your anxiety, partly because of her breaking the 4th wall, partly because Miranda Hart has been very open and generous about her own struggles.

The Marlow Murder Club is a similar pace to Whitstable Pearl. Light easy viewing.

I just started watching that from your recommendations. It's perfect Sunday night tv and it's lovely scenery of Marlow.

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 14/04/2024 21:54

I am also in need of gentle TV at the moment too. Few I've seen recently....

The Assembly on BBC (Micheal Sheen being interviewed by ND adults, really beautiful and gentle)
Designing the Hebrides on BBC
The new Downton film is out on Netflix

BarbarasRhabarberBar · 14/04/2024 22:05

I hope you're ok. Is there anything we can do to help otherwise?

For me, I either watch something lighthearted and vapid like
Brooklyn 99
The Big Bang theory
Standup comedy on Netflix
Derry girls
Lucifer
TikTok or instagram reels
Vines
Cute pet videos
Schitts Creek
Working moms
The good place

A bit deeper
Star Trek voyager or discovery
Orange is the new black
Murder documentary
The crown
Divine secrets of the ya-ya sisterhood
Umbrella academy

Cry fest
Greys anatomy
Virgin river (this is easygoing and positive but some sad things happen)
Any love film

Hope that helps
