Is there anywhere on telly Sophie Ellis Bextor Isn’t invited to take part? She’s the BBC equivalent of bloody Craig David who is never off ITV

I don’t remember the last time I saw either SEB or Craig David on the TV 😂

OutOfTheHouse · 16/04/2024 21:20

I agree that the upstairs of the dress shop was much better than the downstairs. And yes I will concede that the moss window displays looked better than I expected.

I think the crystal shop was impractical.

DBSFstupid · 16/04/2024 21:23

Anthony and Matt are definitely the only two that I would trust to design for me.
I think it's a shame that the judges didn't put them through based on their consistent performance.

SEB has been EVERYWHERE following Saltburn. CD is always on love island (the young people have no clue as to who he is ) and was on Saturday night takeaway twice this series 😂

A tough week. It was sad to see Anthony go. But I’m sure he’ll do well. He said he’d been offered work with Mary Portas, so that’s nothing to sneeze at.

Feellikeafailurenow · 16/04/2024 21:34

Why are they all wearing the same clothes (including Michelle & Alan) at the start when they are finding out about the task & going to speak to the owners as they are at the end for the results?! 🧐

That confuses me too. Either it’s different days but they’ve been told to dress the same or it’s the same day. If it’s the same day then are they faking finding out who has what job/partnership?

WingingItSince1973 · 16/04/2024 21:50

They wear the same clothes for editing reasons. It makes for easy cutting and pasting parts together that may not have been in that original order if that makes sense. Basically for continuity x

Thanks. It’s bugged me every week as makes it look a bit staged.

don’t think Antony deserved to go this week as he has been consistently better and had the harder space to design as well as Roisin hogging the decorators

AppaTheSixLeggedFlyingBison · 16/04/2024 22:02

Matt looked very confused when he found out Anthony was going. Though, whilst I've liked Anthony's previous work, I would have gotten rid of him in the first week if I was Michelle because of the nun poster!

Yip Yip.

Um. Sidetracked by your username.

I mean, I agree.

Why is she offering him work when she has just kicked him out?

I wondered that too, but he said it was after she’d seen some of his previous designs.

JennyForeigner · 16/04/2024 22:38

Mainly here for Michelle's fabulous jumpsuit.

Roisin's wallpaper looked like something you get off Amazon for £7 a roll. Why would anyone wallpaper over lovely lumpy historic lime plaster?!

The behind the till display really bugged me though - that awful wallpaper looked like plywood from a distance and the text looked stranded and a bit wobbly. The green was a big mistake though - no coming back from that.

I love Matt, or as we call him, Zen Umbro. I want to put him through his A-levels and give him pocket money to spend on leisure wear.

His passion for interiors seems kind of off-brand and so is hilarious and touching.

Give Ben a tv series taking Hebrides Bingo to Portugal to tour interiors together. That is all.

Icehockeyflowers · 16/04/2024 22:51

Both terrible shops to given.

I don't know if they should be judged on each week independently. Michelle was so torn between being fair to Roisin and telling Anthony to go. They may have to re-think how they make their decisions but there would be an outcry if she kept Anthony after giving the good feedback to Roisin's area of the shop.

Its the same in MasterChef. A consistently good performer is let go after one bad week. There isn't another way to do it other than let both remain which MasterChef sometimes do and perhaps Michelle could have done it this time. rather than let the person who was most likely to win the series go because he had one bad week.

Ben was lucky this week but he isn't good enough for the final and neither is Roisin. That wallpaper was lovely and very in keeping with the shop and she couldn't see it. Anthony had to do the ground floor (arguably the most important floor) with little to no help from the decorators and then display plastic handbags in a flattering way which was an impossible task.

Matt's idea was good but as usual the timeframe given to create any decent space was too short and it will be a nightmare to keep the sand from being spilled all over the shop floor unless they put a higher edge all around that sandbox which will take from the aesthetic of the centrepiece.

Off topic. Was Mary Portas's hair colour naturally red? I presume its now ash blonde because its easier to blend the greys? I'm fascinated by how ash blonde suits a redhead's complexion and it does.

MichaelAndEagle · 16/04/2024 22:58

Oh no I've just caught up! I actually wondered if she might put them all through. What a shame.

Cocolapew · 16/04/2024 22:58

Poor Anthony, I still think they should be given similar shops to do though

Giggorata · 16/04/2024 23:00

“The crystal shop looked great but was a health and safety nightmare, a shoplifting invitation and a practical disaster in terms of mess management.”
I think the same, about the ground and second floors.
Ben did a lovely job on the first floor.
Matt's display ideas were OK, just not at all practical, sadly.

My screen, or maybe my eyes, didn’t capture the gold sparkle that was supposed to add a bit of a lift to the wallpaper in the clothes shop, but I quite liked it nonetheless.
I wondered why Roisin used such utilitarian film for the windows, then I remembered that she was trying to nod at industrial. But I hated it and people with sharper eyes than mine are saying it was still see through!
You can get some reasonable window film that might have been slightly more decorative - and not been see through. Overall though, she made an attractive space.
Anthony didn’t have the time to stand back and pick up on the flaws in his design. All the plinths being crowded together in the window and at the same height, for example.
He could have easily laid a couple of them on their sides, to vary the height, have some in front of the taller ones to create some interest, and display the bags better than all in a row.
No one likes a colour drench more than me, but even I thought the green was too much. The hoarding behind the till looked unfinished to me; I might have put a green frame round it. Loved the reclaimed sideboard as a bright pink till point.
I am glad to hear that Anthony is going to get commissions in the future, because his usual work is good and he deserves it.

SoupDragon · 16/04/2024 23:01

I think if there hadn't been a clear definition between what Roisin had done and what Anthony had done, both could have stayed. Unfortunately, this week Anthony messed up. Such a shame.

determinedtomakethiswork · 16/04/2024 23:02

I really like Matt and I think he should win but that sand was absolutely ridiculous. It would be all over the floor every night and is the owner really going to pour even more on the table every day? It was just crazy.

I hadn't really rated Roisin but I thought she did really well today.

I was really disappointed by Anthony's shopfloor. One thing that confused me was that great big screen with the shop name on. Was that facing the door? If so wouldn't it mean that people coming in wouldn't be seen by people in the shop? I was thinking of people coming in and taking a handbag from the display without being seen.

BubblegumBlue24 · 16/04/2024 23:08

Just caught up, really shocked Anthony went, not because of this week as his floor was not good at all but overall he seemed to really understand space and design more than the others, rather than ‘decor’ I had him pegged as the winner.
I think Ben had the best space this week his floor in the shop was really good and I loved the font he did for the shop front.

Out of the three left I think Matt might win? He seems to have slightly more about him in terms of space and lighting, whereas the other two, particularly Roisin seem to rely more on decor and styling.

I have to say I am a bit surprised by the final three!! (Excluding Matt)

I agree that it was a bad sign that Roisin couldn’t actually tell if she’d made a good choice with the wallpaper or not.

All the women contestants in this cohort have been so wedded to their own style that any time they have tried to diverge from it they have floundered.

i liked the wallpaper, I thought it really worked well.

Sorry to see Anthony go - I think he’s talented and probably more versatile than the remaining contestants. Very professional too.

But I thought Ben and Matt were really creative with a tricky shop.

SoupDragon · 16/04/2024 23:14

people kept telling her it looked like there had been a leak. No wonder she doubted herself!

Ellmau · 16/04/2024 23:29

I was amazed the judges didn't comment on the mould effect with the wallpaper.

I thought Ben did well this week.

lollipoprainbow · 16/04/2024 23:33

Shame Anthony went, there was a good guy in last years who had to design a shoe shop and lost out.
