I don't really understand why Stephen was so weird about being his 2nd match.

I was under the impression that they started again to find a husband for Michael, as opposed to just asking any of the ones they'd already discarded?

Even if he was a reserve, why did that make him question Michael's motives? 🤔 I didn’t get that part at all. It's not as if Michael had anything to do with choosing the first guy, or had even seen him.

And let's face it, the ixperts really just make up some bullshit reason to match couples, so the first guy probably wasn't any more or less compatible than anyone else they could have picked 😅

Yes, I think he might be another moody sensitive one. I am getting the idea he might be a moper. Also kept wishing he would wash his hair!
Good looking dude though.

Am I imagining that they used to do a bit more about the why's of their matches? Wasn't it about traditional roles and family values and education level in the first few series? Much more logical. Now it seems to be "both speak Spanish" or "have big families". Much vaguer.

I was thinking this too and made me roll my eyes at then unnecessary drama he’s bringing.

Why is this falling on Michael’s head? why does he need to make the effort to reassure Stephen when Michael didn’t even clap eyes on his “Match” and it was all out of his control.

Stephen needs to be looking towards the ixperts for reassurance and answers, not Michael.

I thought the exact same thing.

Michael hadn’t even clapped eyes on the bloke he was supposed to be matched with. Didn’t even know his name.

Stephen was behaving as though Michael had already got married and then his match walked off mid way through the show.

I laughed at ‘it makes me feel like you would have got married to just anyone who came along’. Well, yes.

mcmen05 · 20/03/2024 23:46

I think Maddie is a bit like Lauren she was totally nuts on the wedding day too.

No way. Lauren is straight talking and hilarious. Madeleine is just deranged.

At least he’s realised the whole premise of the show, sorry, experiment

Warmwoolytights · 21/03/2024 07:32

Or has he?

I hope this doesn't make me evil and I'm only 10 minutes in to tonight's episode but I'm wondering if Tristan perhaps has a micro penis & that's why he's so taciturn to get physical. Blush

Do you think the same about Tim (elder)?

Yes they used to do the 'scored highly on xxx' stuff. Now they interview them and make sure they have a decent back story and look OK on camera. Honestly I have no idea how some of these chancers got in.

CorylusAgain · 21/03/2024 08:37

I was also confused by Stephen's reaction. He managed to make a distressing event for Michael, all about him!
It'll be interesting to see if that's an ongoing characteristic or just triggered by the stress of the wedding. It could also indicate he's an over-thinker. We shall see.

I thought John's advice to Tris and Cass was too vague and wordy. I'd be extremely surprised if Tris really understood or could act on that waffle. He shouldn't be there and the risk to his mental health of this failing is likely to be massive.

It's not fair to either of them.

FriendofDorothy · 20/03/2024 21:49

I'm just catching up. I am wondering whether Ridge, Psychiatric Nurse is going to suspect Madeline has a serious mental health disorder.

Madeleine is reminding me of Tara (United States of Tara) when she disassociates, that blank look she gets. No idea if it's acting or a real MH issue but it's uncomfortable to watch either way.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 21/03/2024 08:55

I’m on this thread now. Poor Tristan, I do think being overweight for years and being bullied for it has made a shy, unconfident boy into the same man. I sort of have a similar story. I wore glasses from age 2 through to 12 but was bullied and teased about this all through school as hardly anyone else wore glasses and those that did for reading tried to hide this and not wear them. I was also shy but this certainly didn’t help and then at 12 I had my hair cut, developed style and turned from the ugly duckling into a swan. But your personality is still like the ugly duckling. Well it was in my case. My DM tried all sorts to get me more confident as a child but hardly any of it worked. So I can see why Tristan is the way he is.

Skiphopbump · 21/03/2024 09:23

Thanks for the new thread, now I just need to catch up as I haven’t watched this week yet.

Personally I think Tim the elder goes for 20yo's and thinks that makes him Mr Big Bollocks but has probably been suffering ED due to age and stress (deaths in family etc) and was hoping for a bride younger than him with a socials following that he could use as a nurse with a purse. He doesn't usually date women his own age who might want more than a daddy figure who isn't very nice to them. He certainly has no idea how to do all of the things Lucinda knows/teaches about sexually, and is hugely on the back-foot with that. It's not his usual state and he is flustered by it as he sees her as too "old" and is terrified he might look silly in front of her and the world by admitting he has slept with her because he is Mr Big Bollocks who gets girls like Tori (which is why he is projecting why he hasn't slept with Lucinda onto their relationship).

"Just get on with it"
Would have sufficed.

3luckystars · 21/03/2024 09:54

I did think last night about the final commitment ceremony and Tristan, is he mentally able for that pressure. I hope he gets some support after the show.

He can't get on with it. He can't cope and should not be on this programme.

buzzlightyearsaway · 21/03/2024 10:48

I think the dead cows were speaking to Madeleine from beyond

You ate me you evil human

buzzlightyearsaway · 21/03/2024 10:57

Most of them shouldn't be on the show for various reasons...

Mental health
Psychosis
Misogyny
Only there for fame
Bereaved

Etc

Catlord · 21/03/2024 10:58

Yeah something of a brooding over reaction from Stephen, carrying it over to the honeymoon. I'm not sure it was necessary for Michael to bring it up at the wedding like a confession though when emotions were high. Assuming production were involved. Next day would have been fine. He'd not even met the other bloke so none of it was personal to anyone at all and they'd have been none the wiser if he'd have pulled out before the stag night.

Yes indeed Stephen, Michael was prepared to turn up and marry anyone, same as your good self!

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 21/03/2024 11:06

With Tristan, I wonder if someone needs to ask him if he understands what is actually meant by intimacy, has he been intimate in the past with a female partner. He just reverted to form straight after that conversation, thinking that talking about head pats and teddy bears was appropriate. Cass needs to get out now, this is doing her no good.

I actually felt quite uncomfortable watching Madeleine. She’s either a charlatan or has quite severe mental health problems. If she is genuinely hearing multiple voices she needs a doctor not a reality show. Ash’s patience level is currently up there with Cass’ - maybe they could make a couple!

I could’ve sworn Tristan said he’d had a relationship but not for a few years so in his early 20s? Presumably he was intimate then.

I think he’s shy and unconfident with women due to how big he was when younger and maybe due to not having many male role models in his life due to his mum being a single mum. You could tell at his wedding he was being OTT in how he behaved and what he said because presumably he’s trying to over impress people. In his job though, he’s an events manager so can’t be that shy there.

Villagetoraiseachild · 21/03/2024 11:30

Could be that Tristan Is very good at his job, being a kind of caring court jester. It's at the one to one level that he is struggling.

Skiphopbump · 21/03/2024 11:35

During one of the dinner parties someone was talking about the lists of sexual likes and dislikes. I’m sure when tounge in ear was mentioned Tristan said ‘oh yes’ - that implies he does have experience. Maybe he just doesn’t fancy Cassie.

He does seem from the programmes (could be editing) to be much more comfortable being with people and being 'extrovert' then.

@Skiphopbump - I remember seeing that one with the ear and I thought the same as you, ooh well he does like that. I think he's shy, maybe a slow burner and has really low self esteem. You can't fix that overnight.
