Sippy cup keeps the wine cold!

Not liking this episode, with Yolande - glad she has told Elaine though, I thought we were going to go through the usual... secrets etc

Mrsjayy · 17/04/2024 09:13

Did they have the episode on iplayer? The sippy Cup is portable isn't it so she can just take it wherever she wants.

Southeastdweller · 17/04/2024 09:24

Yes, today’s episode is now on iPlayer.

Wine doesn't need to stay chilled in the glass though - she drinks it that fast!

Southeastdweller · 17/04/2024 11:21

What a very powerful episode it was today and a great acting showcase for Angela Wynter.

It's not even touching the sides.

GloriousintheArctic · 17/04/2024 14:21

Exactly @Mrsjayy !

I love Angela Wynter, she's brilliant. I'm not sure I want to watch it though. I suspect the aftermath will be long running and involve other abused parishioners eventually speaking up. I hope Yolande will be able to speak to Denise or Chelsea who have experience of evil preachers.

the80sweregreat · 17/04/2024 16:41

It was harrowing to be honest :(
I want the others to team up with Yolande and cut his bits off , but that won't happen of course
What an absolute sleaze bag he is and covering it all up , nothing new there

Icehockeyflowers · 17/04/2024 16:42

Has it aired yet?

the80sweregreat · 17/04/2024 16:43

Yes, I read it wasn't going on I player , but that is wrong !

Meredusoleil · 17/04/2024 16:53

I'm not sure I want to watch tonight's 😕 Is there a warning issued beforehand about the sexual assault, or is nothing actually shown on screen so no need?

the80sweregreat · 17/04/2024 17:10

There was a warning put up on I player

Southeastdweller · 17/04/2024 17:10

@Meredusoleil There wasn't a warning before because we don't see the actual assault.

Yes I remember now - there's a statement on iPlayer that says "Containing upsetting scenes".

Oh god, I feel utterly broken watching that. Really, really well done and really well done for having it happen to an older woman. Really sobering to realise even though well past my prime, crossing paths with the wrong man can still have this kind of outcome. The failure of the church to act in the past….no words.

TerroristToddler · 17/04/2024 18:45

It was really well executed and Yolande actress played it fantastically I thought. I'm not usually a fan of Elaine's character but it was good to see her in that role trying to offer support.

It's been an interesting storyline and the flashback to other parishioners and coverups was done well.

IAmPrincessKate · 17/04/2024 18:49

Just watched it. I found that so traumatic to watch. Poor Yolande 😢. She is a terrific actress! I know it’s a soap, but I actually feel vengeful and want to hunt that bastard down!

the80sweregreat · 17/04/2024 18:51

Covering it up .. churches are so good at this with things like this and even those with drink problems too ( as happened in my late mums old parish with one individual)

They can easily be moved on and people don't question. Really sad :(
I Hope Yolande teams up with the other women !
It must have a positive outcome , I hope so
Stella is horrible too. Ordering her about like that. Nasty evil pair and operating in plain sight too.
I watched the Steve coogan drama about Savill and that was the same , no shame and thinking they can just get away with it because of who they are and their status.

the80sweregreat · 17/04/2024 18:55

The one playing Delia in the police station was very good. Doing the right thing , but nothing in the way of justice handed out.
Let's hope Yolande finds out about the other ladies on a website or something?
We need justice for them all!
Elaine was good today , but it was a tough watch

Mrsjayy · 16/04/2024 10:32

She's fine as an actress I like her character but 15 is a total stretch! I liked that Dean was also charged with neglect of Jade.

Elizabeth Green is 19/20 in real life and Avani is 23/24 but then again Ellie Dadd who plays Amy has just turned 19 (she's from Bromley though which is near me so I can't hold that against her. Nuggett is the same age as her though too!

Why do they deliberately cast older actors/actresses for younger roles? Is it some rule with them acting or not if they're at school?

It was such a tough watch. I was almost in tears at some points.

I thought it was good how the other victims told their stories.

I do hope it's not going to be another EE tickbox exercise like with Linda, they have Dean rape her and then he gets off. I actually felt a bit (but not much) sorry for Dean in the end... as this time he really didn't commit the crime - murder. Ah well Dean, haven't you heard of the Boy Who Cried Wolf?!

I think the age thing is so they can work longer hours.

GloriousintheArctic · 17/04/2024 22:17

I watched most of the episode, with some fast-forwarding.

It was a very powerful episode but I have mixed feelings. During 20 years of offences the church failed, the justice system failed - what the episode ended up saying was “don’t bother to report it because nothing will happen”. I am sure the pastor will pay, but in the interim the relentless hammering home of "don't bother" was terrible. I agree the way forward would be finding other victims online, although Yolande doesn't seem the online type.

Angela W was brilliant and I loved the exploration of exactly why Yolande would refuse to reveal what happened to anyone - the church, the police or Patrick. I could see the rationale for giving the confidante role to Elaine, but the actress felt a bit ‘flat’, I am not an Elaine fan in general.

I surprised myself by feeling sorry for Cindy in here scenes - she always comes across as hard and manipulative but I think she does have some genuine feelings in there somewhere!

Icehockeyflowers · 17/04/2024 23:55

Would anyone like to summarise what happened in the episode if you have time - I really don't want to watch it. And what happened with Cindy and Dean?

the80sweregreat · 18/04/2024 07:35

It was mostly centered around Yolande
She was doing the community center up for the fund raiser. Stella ( pastors wife) was being nasty to her. In between they had a little tribute to Lucy in the Vic , but Cindy was upset and found George at the boxing ring for a chat about their kiss. Was left a bit open ended there.
The pastor locked the door to the kitchen and assaulted Yolande at the centre.
We see Yolande go back outside, but she couldn't face anyone and ran off home
Patrick was preparing a meal , she went to the launderette instead ( not speaking to P) and Elaine was talking to her ( seeing her previously upset outside)
E tried to get her to report it all. Seems she won't. E told her she was a victim of assault and not in the wrong, but Y is just too traumatized to take it all in :(
We saw three other older ladies in flash backs years apart who were also attacked by the pastor in similar circumstances. We saw one with the police who told her there was nothing much they can do.
Yolande goes home eventually , but we see her crying at the bottom of the stairs.
I've probably left a bit out here , but it was mostly around Y and the historic cases.
