Anyone interested in the build up this year? I have been more aware this year as the songs are announced. I like Croatia, Ireland and Finland. Dizzy is hopefully going to do well which makes it exciting - Olli Alexander should be good performing live and he is well known in Europe.

Just reading about the controversy with Israel’s entry and I see that Iceland might send a Palastinian singer.

Ukraine have been the favourites for a while but Croatia is just ahead of them now.

And another one...

“When I was a child, I dreamed about music, I dreamed about this dream to be a singer, to sing for peace”

Dutch Tabloid suggesting that the Dutch Broadcaster want to appeal against Joost's disqualification...

frankincenseandmyrrh · 11/05/2024 15:36

Ireland, UK, Switzerland and Portugal are seriously considering withdrawing, according to Norwegian newspaper, VG.

RedToothBrush · 11/05/2024 15:39

France is Big Five. UK is Big Five.

Watch this.

Joost is going to be reinstated isn't he?!

@ScribblingPixie look at the sponsor

You're pointing out that MoroccanOil of Israel, which was founded in 2007, is the current sponsor? But Israel first entered Eurovision in 1973. It takes part as a member of the EBU like everybody else. So why would you say that Israel bought its way in?

RedToothBrush · 11/05/2024 15:42

I think Martin Osterdahl will be looking for a new job on Monday.

Yup. He's good to go.

The countries, or the performers themselves leaning towards that decision.

Dunno.

4 hours til show time.

RedToothBrush · 11/05/2024 15:59

Israeli delegation apparently have had their dressing room moved in the arena.

Stressybetty · 11/05/2024 16:00

Interesting interview with Martin in April.

So <extracts phone from bra>...

I think it's Switzerland for the win. Or should be. Nemo was simply outstanding.

Olly and crew were brilliant.

The French thing was dramatic and worthy but ruined another performance for me that I'd been looking forward to.

Interval act was mediocre. All I can say about Loreen is she has incredible core strength.

UK gave their fake douze points to Latvia 😂

No sign of Mans ☹

Sweden have not impressed me as hosts.

Need more gin.

Have more gin. Enjoy the rest of the day as best you can!

Stressybetty · 11/05/2024 16:04

Hopefully Mans will appear, going to be an interesting show anyway!
Am assuming that had Israel quietly decided not to compete this year the drama would have all been avoided

Stressybetty · 11/05/2024 16:05

Agree Nemo was amazing, just staying on that platform deserves a vote!

Anti-semites are everywhere. You have seen it in the veiled comments.

RedToothBrush · 11/05/2024 16:24

We will wait and see if this is the case...

I'm wondering if they asked Joost not to repeat the dedication in the final show and he kicked off?

MollyRover · 11/05/2024 16:46

@ScribblingPixie @OneForTheToad how is it anti-Semitic to mention that the biggest sponsor being Israeli might be suspicious when the Israeli delegation are seemingly beyond reproach in antagonizing their fellow contestants?

RedToothBrush · 11/05/2024 16:56

I think there's an argument here too TBF.

The EBU had a massive issue. If they kicked out Israel like they did with Russia, they would have had a financial issue to deal with at short notice if the main sponsor withdraw suddenly close to the contest.

They might have genuinely had very little ability to do that. The same would have been true for any other country.

TokyoSushi · 11/05/2024 17:12

Checking in for later, although it all seems to be going on now 😬

Dutch Broadcaster release statement

I wonder what the "threatening movement" was?

Joost being disqualified implies that it was a very serious incident indeed but that statement suggests he never touched the female photographer. It's all very odd indeed.
