Anyone interested in the build up this year? I have been more aware this year as the songs are announced. I like Croatia, Ireland and Finland. Dizzy is hopefully going to do well which makes it exciting - Olli Alexander should be good performing live and he is well known in Europe.

Just reading about the controversy with Israel’s entry and I see that Iceland might send a Palastinian singer.

Ukraine have been the favourites for a while but Croatia is just ahead of them now.

Hearing Ireland and Switzerland haven't turned up for flag parade.

Looking for confirmation.

The two withdrawing could throw it for Croatia...

RedToothBrush · 11/05/2024 13:03

Greece - her father is Arab.

Charlotte I hope you are ok.

Flag parade, they announced them but Ireland, Greece and another didn't show. I'm sorry I can't rememberwho it was, I've been on the gin.

It's fine. Enjoy!

Ireland, Greece and Switzerland are no shows at flag parade.

GooseClues · 11/05/2024 13:04

Unless they tell us exactly what happened and was said it’s very hard to judge. I’m sure plenty of people would call Trump’s “grab them by the…” comment as nothing serious and just a silly joke. That Dutch commentator’s opinion tells nothing to me because I don’t know what his point of reference is.

RedToothBrush · 11/05/2024 13:07

Imagine this as a possible scenario:
Joost reinstated for final this evening. He doesn't have to be in this show.

I thought it was but really hoped it wasn't Switzerland- not least because he got the biggest cheer.

Bambi Thug won't be appearing.

Hoping to appear in the final later. But not matinée.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 11/05/2024 13:45

Bambi not shown up for her slot. They're showing it on the screen so presumably all is not lost yet.

V. disappointed.

WelkomInEuropaJonguh · 11/05/2024 13:50

Are we thinking possibly no Greece or Switzerland on stage either, then I'm ☹️

WelkomInEuropaJonguh · 11/05/2024 13:51

Marina is here, phew!

Tangled123 · 11/05/2024 13:56

I don’t see how you can punish someone with disqualification for stupid and reckless words, but you don’t punish a country for acting on their words. Fully stand behind Bambi Thug if she does withdraw.

PrincessScarlett · 11/05/2024 14:01

What a mess. And that's without even contemplating what will happen if Israel win tonight.

The EBU have really handled all of this appallingly.

RedToothBrush · 11/05/2024 14:04

Last year's Norway entry Alessandra has withdrawn from their Jury for this year.

RTÉ reports that Bambie has called on the EBU to address Kan's commentary during their performance.

"Contending that the commentary breached the rules [...] Bambie Thug said Israel should no longer be allowed to participate in the competition."

To be honest I feel like a mountain is being made out of a molehill here, and I'm certainly no fan of Israel's participation.

I agree, I would be all for finding something on Israel that would lead to them being disqualified, but that commentary seems very in line with any other countries commentaries.

MollyRover · 11/05/2024 14:28

Certainly Bambi's own comments about crying when Israel qualified are far worse than what the Israeli broadcaster said about Doomsday Blue. Although I don't doubt that the Israeli delegation have been winding everyone up for days and that tensions are running high. The EBU need to take charge here. Israel have paid their way in and are using Eurovision as a propaganda tool.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "Israel have paid their way in"? @MollyRover

RedToothBrush · 11/05/2024 14:44

ESC discord
🇸🇪 According to SVT, the EBU is currently in a "crisis meeting", given the strong reactions provoked after the disqualification of Joost Klein earlier today.

😂

What did they ACTUALLY think would happen?

Unless this is all a set up to reinstate The Joost?

Looking at what they said, the vast majority is well within the bounds of normal commentary. If it wasn't then Terry and Graham would have been banned years ago. Even "they've said negative things about Israel" is surely factual.

*Granted, some of Terry's more colourful comments from the 90s would not pass compliance nowadays.
