Anyone interested in the build up this year? I have been more aware this year as the songs are announced. I like Croatia, Ireland and Finland. Dizzy is hopefully going to do well which makes it exciting - Olli Alexander should be good performing live and he is well known in Europe.

Just reading about the controversy with Israel’s entry and I see that Iceland might send a Palastinian singer.

Ukraine have been the favourites for a while but Croatia is just ahead of them now.

Well if I didn’t say Olly he would crucify me, but I’m really not sure, they’re are some really good acts, I think Croatia are strong too. Who knew that this years would be more political than last years, that will have an impact on voting.

It will be interesting to see if there are any protests from Tuesday onwards, if there is it will likely be tourists so hopefully not too many.

Love Tia Kofi but this needs editing. Has there always been a turquoise carpet? Who introduced that then?!

Love Croatia's entry! Can just imagine it as the winner with everyone jumping up and down.

Me too, it has been my winner from the first time I heard it.

It has been a while since the bookies got it wrong, I hope that trend continues!

Croatians have really got behind BL too and there's a lot of excitement around Eurovision. If they win it might convince a few other eastern countries to return too.

My Semi-1 definite predictions are:

Final 2 I think will be drawn from Cyprus, Finland, Luxembourg or Azerbaijan. My own choice would be Cyprus and Azerbaijan but I fear they will fall in favour of the others. I do really like the Cypriot entry this year.

For Semi-2, I will predict:

Switzerland
Netherlands
Armenia
Belgium
Georgia
Czechia
Malta
Greece

Then the final 2 drawn from Albania, Latvia, Austria and Denmark. Austria is a lot of fun but I think it will fail to curry favour with voters. I'm going go with Latvia and Denmark.

Semi-2 is the more interesting this year, IMO. Unfortunatly I won't be able to watch live due to MiL's very inconsiderate birthday celebrations. Will be home around and will catch up from that point.

i think Belgium and Croatia may have problems with the live performance although they are probably my two favourite songs. Ireland, Lithuania , Finland, The UK, France and Austria don’t have the momentum of enough public support (although apparently France is the favourite to win the jury vote).

So I think Italy or Switzerland will win - probably Switzerland.

Aye, regarding Oz, I did say Not sure it will as the vocals in rehearsal were dubious. I like the didgeridoo though. Chorus in the original was catchy enough.
Finland, will be a shame for those who wait for the final to miss out on the "wtf did I just watch?" moment

No accounting for taste I guess. I think it is fun (not sure it is meant to be) and a bit different. I like the tune in the chorus and the scars in your eyes bit and the verse to be honest. Just find it interesting and changing through the song.

Her "Ouija-Pop" just isn't doing it for me even though, on paper, it should. You're right. Different strokes. I do like the idea that Ireland said, "Send the witch."

Apologies, I didn't mean to sound like I was attacking your choices, just making conversation. Tbf, I went for songs which I think will make it through and not neccessarily those that I like. That being said, I do like Ireland although it took me a few listens to get to that point. There's a lot of buzz around it and I think they will be rewarded by voters for trying something different this year. It reminds me of the type of thing I would have played loudly when I was 14, mainly to get a rise out of my parents who who would have described it as "just noise". I do really like the chorus and the staging looks like it will be a vote-winner. It's refreshing to see something like this on the eurovision stage, especially from Ireland. I might have expected it from Iceland.

I like the Australian song but I think it will fall flat on the night and I think the Australian bubble has burst for lots of folk. I'd like to see Finland get through but am seeing so many reports of people finding it tiresome and contrived. I've described the Croatian entry as contrived upthread (IMO) but Finland are even more so. I can see this failing in the way of other entries which went too far in their attempts to be fun and kooky (Eat Your Salad) but I agree, it would be a shame to rob the casual viewers of that WTF moment.

It's different. I like a variety in the final.

DH has pointed out just how many acts this year are a singer with four prancing artists behind them.

Ireland is completely different to that so deserves to be in the final on that basis alone.

I like Ireland, Ukraine, Croatia, Finland, Lithuania, Serbia and Moldova on that basis. Moldova isn't favoured to qualify but I think the staging is fabulous so it might help her a lot. No one thought Estonia with Bridges would qualify but it ended up doing really well on the final, never mind the semi. Moldova is this year's version imo.

Poland is ok, but I won't forgive her for dodgy vocals.

Iceland and Oz are dead ducks. Iceland is like a 90s Eurovision entry and not in a good way. Oz is pitchy and I'm sure her outfit is cultural but I can't help thinking she's wrapped herself in a loo roll. (Sorry!)

Slovenia is just screechy noise and a risque outfit. There's nothing redeeming about it.

I can take or leave Azerbaijan. Their vocals were dodgy at rehearsals and just "Benidorm".

Portugal just leaves me cold tbh.

The remainder are much of a muchness and I really can't be bothered with either.

Semi 2.
Has to be Netherlands, Austria, San Marino and Switzerland as my top automatic qualifiers. San Marino aren't being favoured to make the cut but I'm not sure. It's a very catchy song.

I really like both Armenia and Estonia but I fear for Estonia. It's got the 'Moldovan band' vibe going on for me which I love. Norway gets my approval for the different/ weirdness vibe.

Czechia is really underrated in my book. It's like Republica (remember them?!). I don't think it will qualify but I hope it does.

Greece looks like she's got a giant silver nappy on. But it's just different and not like all the other dance troops.

That gets me to 9. So I feel it's a tougher semi.

I love Belgium but I think he might screw it up if he's not careful. It feels forces at times. And Denmark whilst it's just a bit meh, seen this before, she does a fabulous performance. So I wonder if Belgium could be one of this year's shocks.

I loved the Albania track, but by god the staging is awful and her voice is crap and wtf were they thinking with that outfit. It should have qualified, but I think it might tank.

Latvia. Just a bit dull really.

I suspect Georgia will qualify, but I'm not bothered by it.

I wasn’t keen on the UK entry at first but it’s grown on me. There was a song on the radio earlier - I was half listening & thought “ ooh that’s good” & it was “ Dizzy”. DH & I often say we’re not going to watch the final but invariably end up doing so.

I love hearing different opinions. Have sent thanks to both of you but it won't be "me", I'm Tom Jones atm (don't ask, I was amusing myself on another thread and can't be arsed to change back yet). Am quite surprised they've never got Tom to do Eurovision actually.
Moldova's got the lovely white wings. They were memorable for me.
Iceland is Jane McDonald cruise ship. The gold jumpsuit doesn't help. Unusual choice for them, it's very MOR. Might get Schlager Helene Fischer type vote?

ESC discord is live tweeting details. I won't go through it too much but here's an interesting comment about the UK:

We're inside the box on stage and we've got a lot of rotating or tilted camera. This performance almost feels more like a music video. No more weird faces from the dancers! And a new ending with a long note!

And this about Finland:

Some of those lyrics from Windows95man were definitely different to before! His apparent nudity remains well-covered as it did at UMK. Henri's vocals are on point, but it perhaps feels more like it's his song with a character in the background.
