This really isn’t my kind of program but I loved the first series in spite of myself.

IGotItFromAgnes · 01/01/2024 18:16

Hope it’s better than the Australian S2

RedToothBrush · 01/01/2024 18:20

Checking in.

CaveMum · 02/01/2024 15:46

Placemarking ready for tomorrow!

Apparently the 2nd Traitors US has Jon Bercow and Ekin-Su in it! I'm not a fan of the US version using "celebs" (extra large finger quotes for that one) but I might have to watch it as I was drawn in by the 1st US version, though I did fast forward most of the tasks to just watch the chats and round table!

NonPlayerCharacter · 02/01/2024 20:45

Yay, placemarking! I loved the first series so much I also watched the American and Aussie ones, but they were crap.

How do you think they'll shake it up for the new series?

Watervolt · 02/01/2024 20:49

Yessss, I can't wait! Have watched US, AU, NZ and Canadian versions since. Loved UK one so much.

CaveMum · 02/01/2024 21:33

@NonPlayerCharacter theres an article on the BBC about changes they’ve made to the format for this series, mainly because some of the “surprises” in the first series wouldn’t work this time round as they’d be expected!

Checking in. Loved the format of the first seriea & looking forward to the 2nd. Pleased Claudia Winkleman is presenting again, she was perfect for it. I'd love it if you could play this game at a scottish castle for fun without being on TV.

TV, if past experience is anything to go by. I watch on iPlayer and am always a bit behind.

Shayisgreat · 03/01/2024 08:45

I think I am going to wait until episode 6 or 7 is on iplayer before starting it as I have no patience anymore to wait for the next episode and will need to binge watch it.

i think it depends on whether the final people KNOW how many traitors are left nearer the end. if they know there is one (or 2), it moves the odds against them.

effectivly you need 2 at the end, to get one OUT and then hope that that person doesn't turn on you. And of course you have to betray the other.

Though if you get 2faithful -2 traitors you can try and be a pact and vote out 1 person, then the other, then split it. But of course greed makes you want to have it all.

So i'd like to see a proper traitors pact to the end and sharing. nice tratitors!

It's geared towards keeping traitors in the game until the very end, for obvious reasons (even if they're not the same people as they are at the start). I'm not clever enough to work out the stats so I'm ready to be corrected on this, but the very nature of the gameplay seems to skew it towards a traitor victory. I don't think the producers are trying to get the traitors to win, it's just the nature of the game plus the need to keep it going for 12 episodes means traitors have better odds.

I'm in! Expected to hate this when it first started but ended up GLUED. Hope they make a better choice of traitors this time.

TokyoSushi · 03/01/2024 16:28

Checking in! Hoping it doesn't clash too badly with the darts!

The editing on that was so off and jarring. Boring host who was indistinguishable from the contestants and a clunky attempt to present the venue as being somehow Agatha Christie in style even though it wasn't (is there anywhere in Australia with a 1930s London/England aesthetic?). Unsatisfying ending.

I hope we get a satisfying ending to this one. The producers do seem very savvy.

maybejustonemoretime · 03/01/2024 17:13

I very much hope they don't follow the Australian one and start doing back story/ sob stories for contestants.
The Aus was so odd it only gave you the back story repeatedly of one contestant saying why she needed the money and guess what she won 👀.
We don't need another platform for z list celebrity wannabe's just interesting people.

I meant to add that I watched the American version - didn't think it was quite as good but still watchable. But I didn't even get past the first episode of the Australian version.

thankyouforthedayz · 03/01/2024 17:33

The three winners last year were the dimmest players though. Even with the exiting traitor spoliling the game by declaring there was a remaining traitor, faithful Meryl still didn't catch on. The format rewards the clueless as they are no threat and ousts the savvy, interesting players. Wilf so deserved to win, he played a blinder. I hope the new contestants aren't as wet as some of last years, who seemed to think that taking the traitor role was a moral failure. I'd like to see more traitors this time.
