I wish the writing was more subtle

General Discussion
EastEnders has been pretty good this year but, still, one of my biggest problems with the show is the forced and painfully obvious writing. I much prefer it when the writing feels natural and consistent with what we know about these characters, but nowadays it often feels like I'm watching something that was written by a team of people. Characters' behaviour completely changes depending on the storyline, and things just seem to conveniently happen if that's what the storyline needs in order to play out how the writers want it to.
Some examples of this recently:

• Suki and Eve kissing in full view of the CCTV cameras, and Nish needing to go and check the cameras later on, leading to him finding out about the affair (after a year of being so careful, why would they make such an obvious slip-up?!)
• Nish coming home and Suki's phone being left on the kitchen table without a passcode and with the text messages already visible
• Vinny suddenly deciding to help Suki and Eve run away, even though he's been against the idea for months and even tried to kill Eve in order to stop them from leaving
• Priya finding out about Suki's affair right after she was told to leave the house, meaning she now has leverage and can blackmail Suki into letting her stay
• Stacey deciding to meet up with Theo to discuss the case, even after everything that's happened
• Karen's friend posting pictures of himself and Albie on social media at the same time as the fake kidnapping, allowing Phil to find out what really happened (also, how did Sam of all people find this?!)
• George slapping Dean down the stairs (and George conveniently having a criminal record that was never mentioned before), meaning that Dean now has something he use against Linda
• Jack and Denise's relationship suddenly going to shit again just so that a Jack and Stacey affair storyline can happen
• Jay getting into a car crash right after everyone had just disowned him, meaning they feel bad and quickly forgive him for everything
• Alfie finding out that Phil cheated on Kat but deciding not to say anything because he's got cancer, allowing the storyline to be dragged out for several months

To be honest I think the writing on Eastenders has always been like this, characters are given complete personality transplants just for the sake of a storyline, it can be quite irritating.

That is a very good post below and soaps are so unrealistic because the characters have to be in place and rarely meet anyone outside their own bubble. Things happen that never would in real life

I really enjoyed it. I've often wondered why the children in Karen's house don't get disturbed by the arguing and shouting, and why they think the children won't overhear things. But today they did.

Bernie is bound to spill the beans I think

Sharon is an idiot for believing Ken ' knew nothing about it '! She has lost the plot there surely ?

Don't they all look quite smart when suited and booted like that 😊

I don't get why Jack or Phil is in there. They haven't done anything recently, have they?

So is it safe to say the dead man can't be either Ian or Theo then? As they are not one of the seven men in the line up.

It must mean something that they've put that photo out...?

Knowing Enders. It’s a red herring. Either my eyes are going but I thought one of them looked like Gray at first brief glance.

I've just seen another pic of the men online. But this time there are only six of them in it! No Rocky. I wonder if it's him now, as Kathy really does have a murderous look on her face whilst chopping up those flowers!

Also, have been reading that there may be two victims rather than just the one. Seeing as Linda seems to be scrubbing blood off the floor upstairs in the Vic 🤔

I've not seen the trailer yet for Christmas etc

Two victims is interesting. Someone gets hurt by one of the others then someone gets killed.

Eve is still out there so will definitely be back for Christmas.

Rocky was supposed to be going before all this so I'm surprised he's in the lineup. Does strike me as odd.

I was surprised Mitch left with Karen as I hadn’t read anything about the actor leaving. It was out of character for Keanu to trust Karen would give him the £50K.

Ken was probably avoiding his mum as much as possible in case she dobbed him in ! He was believing that she'll return it ..
I liked Mitch and Bailey
At least Mitch didn't have any affairs, get anyone pregnant or murder anyone
He wasn't perfect, but he had morals and Bailey was great

I'm sorry to see Mitch go, he was one of the few nice men on the Square. Poor Sonia, such bad timing with Reiss having to dash off after Debbie took another turn for the worse. Also, that nightie!

Her nightie is awful
I Hope Reiss buys her a new one for Christmas

I feel sorry for Sonia, she's so much more invested in IVF than Reiss. I've always thought there would be a problem with Debbie which would scupper it in some way.
