Apple TV+ 3 months free (VM offer) - Anything worth watching? Thanks

IwantToRetire · 07/11/2023 17:18

Just wondered what anyone who has Apple TV+ thinks are worthwhile programmes.

I like detective / crime dramas. More Spiral / the Wire than Midsummer Murders!

Historical, unless they are sloppy romances, and those based on actual history.

SciFi but so long as it is actual science fiction, not what now is listed as SF but is really horror, monster.

Dont mind sub titles.

Many thanks for any thoughts!

(I'm asking because I had Disney+ free for 3 months and I think I spent more time working my way through the listings than watching any series! And VM "suggestions" are so off base in terms of my usual viewing that if this is an example of AI we are all doomed!!)

Just for free 3 months myself from buying an iPad. I really enjoyed Blackbird but also The Crowded Room which no one has mentioned to date so could just be me!

Puravida23 · 19/12/2023 21:53

That should read Just got 3 months myself not Just for

RiverCartwright · 19/12/2023 21:55

Slow Horses is a given. Then treat yourself to the books.

Monarch. Bloody loving this. It’s kind of linked in to the Godzilla movies and the organisation that monitors titan creatures.

Enfield Poltergeist was pure nonsense back in the day but fascinating to hear them go over it again.

Ted Lasso. No other words needed.

You don’t always get that I add. I bought the iPhone 15 but wasn’t given a trial as I’d redeemed one when I bought some other Apple product. My daughter in law was given 6 months free though sky so I’ve nicked her log in for now ☺️

MindHowYouGoes · 19/12/2023 22:01

Everyone should watch ted lasso imo. What a brilliant program

I've just signed up for a month for free with an offer that was in the Christmas issue of the Radio Times. I've had a few free trials with them over the years. Apple forgets your Apple ID after a year, so you can have another free trial.

All my devices are using the same Apple ID and that’s not forgotten unfortunately. If I buy a new phone or watch for example I’ll need to set it to the ID I use for everything else and it knows I’ve claimed a free trial or several 🥺
it will work if you set up other Apple IDs though, just Complicates watching them on MacBooks etc

No more recommendations please, queue self pitying sob.

It must be different then if you go through Apple’s partners, because I’ve had free trials with o2, Prime and now the Radio Times, all linked to my Apple ID. My first trial was directly with Apple (but they don’t do this anymore). I watch on my iPhone and MacBook.

Apologies I’ve derailed, but maybe this posts helps others reading.

Ignore this, have now managed to claim my 3 months.

The problem is people who design online forms dont think like me.

I think they should all ask me to look at their designs before posting online.

Question for existing Apple users, please.

I cant find a "wishlist" option, ie how can I mark out the ones I want to watch, based on recommendations from here.

It will probably take my 3 months for me to work it out, so if anyone knows would be grateful to be enlightened.

It is the "up next" option?

I'd prioritise Slow Horses and Ted Lasso. Both brilliant in totally different ways. Bad Sisters I loved the early series but I think I stopped watching as imo it went downhill and eventually I think I stopped watching.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned Drops of God mini series which had similarities to The Queen's Gambit, Netflix, which I really enjoyed. This is about a French woman and a Japanese man in battle over an inheritance.

@martinisforeveryone Are you perhaps thinking of Good Girls rather than Bad Sisters? There only is one series (currently) of Bad sisters and it was excellent from start to finish.

martinisforeveryone · 20/12/2023 20:11

Sorry can't tag or quote you because I get an error message saying the user name does not exist, but yes, apologies, you're spot on. I watched Bad Sisters as well at the time and liked it well enough.

Sorry I copy and pasted and did an advanced search too and it gave me absolutely nothing, but I can see you fine. Curious. Must be a little glitch.

1975wasthebest · 20/12/2023 20:42

It is the "up next" option?

Yes, you press on the + symbol and that adds the show or film onto your up next queue (or wish list).

burnoutbabe · 20/12/2023 20:52

I loved trying about adoption:fostering. Very touching and sweet.

I did hate Apple TV s as bs trying to watch stuff. I thibk I just had links in my browser that I used to watch stuff. Only my ps4 would play the shows of things connected to my tv but now sky w does it with a free 6 months so I'll get that post Xmas.

Thanks - am really slow with online instructions, and using a remote means I am battling with butter fingers.

Often go on website via computer as quicker and easier to navigate there.

So can now whizz through and get +ing.

I've watched Silo which was good if you like dystopian.. also there's a show on there called 'see' with Jason Mamoa 😍 I've made it halfway cos its just a little too dark and depressing for me right now but the concept is great lol. For some light relief I've started watching the morning show and have made it to season 2 however finding Reese Witherspoons character so extremely insufferable I think I'm about to give up! Anyway, enjoy your shows op.

Madcats · 21/12/2023 10:57

A big thank you to @IwantToRetire
I've just signed us up to Currys Perks so will hopefully get 3 months of Apple TV in the next few days.

Slow Horses 3, here we come!

It bit off topic but really wonder what these perks are. When you have time, please do let us know.

Madcats · 24/12/2023 10:01

Well Currys have just sent me my "Perks" sign-up email (just in time for Christmas).

Offers include:
3 months Apple TV
3 months Apple Music
Apple Fitness and Arcade (haven't clicked the link for that)

40% off Odeon (and possibly other) cinema tickets for a year (that will be on another email).

3 month Telegraph sub
3 month Readily (online magazines) sub
90 day trial of Tastecard
Virgin Wines offer....

It looks as if I will get an email from Currys once a fortnight. I can cope with that. I suppose Apple etc are hoping that we'll forget to cancel/decide to subscribe.

We're a happy Madcat family this Christmas!
