Where is he posting these, please?

On Digital Spy.

RachelGreeneGreep · 06/11/2023 08:54

MyCircumference · 06/11/2023 08:52

is Luba Kai's gf?

No, Nadiya is.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 06/11/2023 09:02

I guess Angela in Blackpool will make for an iconic moment in Strictly terms, so I can see why they'd want to keep her in... still a bit annoying though.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 06/11/2023 09:07

... it's going to look odd when Kai and Angela end up in the DO again and aren't saved; judges going from fulsome praise to an honest appraisal in the space of one dance 😆

Samcro · 06/11/2023 09:34

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 06/11/2023 08:50

That's a good point. Angela had a few very obvious wobbles in the DO... it didn't take an expert to be able to tell that judges' comments weren't in sync with what we were all seeing.

glad you mentioned it. she was not very steady

AutumnCrow · 06/11/2023 09:54

I thought Kai looked a tad awkward, embarrassed and pissed off, too. He has his pride, he's excellent at what he does, and he presumably suspects that those robotic judges' comments signified that he and his partner got through on producers' preference rather than their dancing on the night.

I guess he was also aware that Adam was going through a lot of pain before being shown the door. Yeah, awkward.

CaveMum · 06/11/2023 09:55

Well I bloody love a good Samba! It’s a hard dance, hence the high number of people who go out on it. It’s one of those dances (like the Paso) where you can’t really freestyle to cover up mistakes, it has to be choreographed carefully for musical phrasing as the rhythms can change so much.

For all the Samba haters I prescribe a trip over to the Video Thread to watch Oti & Danny Mac burning up the floor to Magalenha!

bizzey · 06/11/2023 10:00

Can someone explain the difference between the Samba and the Salsa please..
very simply ..🤣🤣

I think the Samba has the bit in hold where they do the spinning dipping thing (?) but in my head I can never place which dance is which .

DontBeAPrickDarren · 06/11/2023 10:18

A well-done Samba is glorious.

CaveMum · 06/11/2023 10:22

@bizzey Samba is a traditional Brazilian dance that has been “westernised” to evolve into the ballroom version we see on Strictly today. The basic rhythm is 3 steps danced over 2 beats. I know this doesn’t make a lot of sense written down but the beats are split “3/4, 1/4, 1” over the bar. It’s what gives it the distinctive “bounce” that you hear the judges talk about.

Salsa is a much more laid back dance style. It originated in nightclubs in Cuba/Latin America so is actually meant to be danced in a confined space. What you see on Strictly is a cabaret style of the dance - if you go to a Salsa class or club you will not see any lifts or extravagant moves! It’s danced over 4 beats in a bar with each beat an equal length. It’s a much easier dance for beginners to learn.

I’ll put some basic choreography videos on the video thread so you can see the differences.

CaveMum · 06/11/2023 10:24

I meant to say @bizzey I think you’re referring to a Samba Roll (where the partners usually stand with the man behind the woman).

MyCircumference · 06/11/2023 10:27

imagine Angela R has a lot of support due to being 79

MyCircumference · 06/11/2023 10:27

debbie mcgee had a fair amount of support i remember

MyCircumference · 06/11/2023 10:28

i have jsut seen that debbie Mcgee is 65! so not nearly the same age as Angela Rippon

EvilRingahBitch · 06/11/2023 10:31

Yes Debbie was a full twenty years younger than Angela when she did the show, and also had danced professionally, unlike Angela who as I understand it was only ever a keen amateur. I think the comparisons between them which I've occasionally seen are very unfair to Angela - there's a huge difference between 59 and 79.

EvilRingahBitch · 06/11/2023 10:41

Anyway, the DO proved what the polling has suggested for weeks, that once the initial "blimey, she can still get her leg over her head at her age!" factor has worn off, Angela R really doesn't have much public support.

Despite the large SCD viewership amongst older women, the older female celebs have rarely got the public vote - the Loose Women factor that you see on DOI doesn't really translate to Strictly for some reason.

I spent the weekend with an octogenarian relative who's very sniffy about my fondness for Strictly and she said "of course I'm hardly the demographic they're aiming for". When I demurred from this opinion, she did admit that almost all her octogenarian female mates watched it. What she meant of course was that she was too posh and highbrow to watch such trash, which is fair enough.

CaveMum · 06/11/2023 10:44

Should have added to my Salsa description, there are a few different styles of Salsa out there, most commonly Cuban, New York and LA Style. Cuban being more traditional (and what I used to dance) but LA and New York a bit more open and fluid. If you can dance one it’s pretty easy to dance the others as the rhythms are the same. The key difference is Cuban is more circular and rotational, whereas LA and New York are danced on lines, more commonly called cross-body, as the dancers move from one side of their partner to the other while dancing.

Anyway, videos are up on the Video thread.

verdantverdure · 06/11/2023 10:51

I'll miss Adam's cheeky face and cheerful attitude and think he had far more challenging routines than Angela R.

I don't want to believe that Strictly is fixed but on DO merit I would have kept Adam over Angela R.

I'm open to the idea that Adam was OK going out because he looked so tired and unwell.

I think they might have created a bit of a "monster" in Angela R where they've praised her so much and she is somehow unaware that the dances set and the choreography are less challenging than for the others so she thinks she's better than she is.

Dance off against Annabel next week?

bizzey · 06/11/2023 11:00

The Samba/Salsa videos that @CaveMum has put up on the video thread are really helpful !

MyCircumference · 06/11/2023 11:11

30 years younger at the time probably Debbie McGhee @EvilRingahBitch

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/11/2023 11:11

<waves>

I was a bit late catching up this week!

I did like Adam so I'm sorry he went. It was probably the closest dance off yet I thought.

I think the Layton leftie comment was about his cartwheel — I'd put my right hand down first through choice, but he went the other way.

EvilRingahBitch · 06/11/2023 11:14

MyCircumference · 06/11/2023 11:11

30 years younger at the time probably Debbie McGhee @EvilRingahBitch

Definitely 20. Debbie did Strictly when she was 59 vs Angela's 79.

MyCircumference · 06/11/2023 11:23

oh my brain @EvilRingahBitch

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/11/2023 11:27

Layton — not a lot of jive in there. Some flicks and drunken sailors, chicken walks and a couple of kick ball changes. I don't think there was a single jive basic, I didn't see any chassés. Not much of the characteristic double bounce action, probably because he didn't do a lot of jive...

RAngela — I thought she'd do better at that. Nice music and lots of recognisable waltz steps. Didn't like the dress, and I thought she looked a bit wobbly.

Nigel — Middle table-ish for me, I don't remember much of it. I think I prefer more cat-like movement, but the music probably didn't help that.

Annabel — Not as wafty as I feared! I thought the bench was a soupçon too much, but I presume she agreed with it. I thought it was sweet and I'm pleased she felt like she'd done a lovely tribute. (Although Annabel's DH was presumably a more modern Strictly fan — I wouldn't think you for a couple's choice tribute! Tails and arm hankies all the way for me please.)

Adam — I saw it twice and I'm still not sure how good it was! I don't know whether to blame my telly, my eyesight or the lighting, but I just couldn't really see him and what he was doing. I did notice some walks forward that were definitely not rumba walks.

SAngela — Distracted by the fact she was clearly dressed for doing a paso. I agree about her weight being too far back, I'm guessing that was the Irish dancing coming out.

Bobby — It was ok? I liked Dianne's jumpsuit. He held that end position for far too long. I also struggle to see him as sexy, I want to check he's remembered his dance shoes and ask if he needs a packed lunch. Grin

Ellie — LOVED IT. More like that please.

Krishnan — It was a lot of walking. But he comes across so nicely and obviously enjoys it.
