I never peel potatos, switch kettle on, chop up potatos and pour boiling water over pots in the pan and boil. Make three times the amount you need and freeze the rest.

Lucycat · 10/03/2008 16:44

apparantely there is already a shortage of the potato rosti stuff

I made her oven roasted potatoes with red onions, garlic and rosemary last night - using real potatoes not smash and they were good.

might just watch to tut disapprovingly...

bundle · 10/03/2008 16:45

shant be watching this, what's the point? already know where the processed foods are and tbh they're not as nice as things you prepare/cook yourself

mistressmiggins · 10/03/2008 20:40

Im watching this just cos of the hype and to see if she has sold out as I suspect

sorry - she is just doing this for publicity - grated cheese in a bag - how long does it take to grate cheese?

Did you see the frozen mash - 75% potato, 5% butter & 20% water
how hard is it to mash potato

find it annoying already

mistressmiggins · 10/03/2008 20:41

oh and I did sunday roast - didnt peel the potatoes - just new potatoes washed, rubbed with olive oil & salt
verdict from 3 kids?
"these potatoes are yummy"

really hard

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 10/03/2008 20:42

I make the best mash in the world, one of our executive chefs gave me a tip.

mistressmiggins · 10/03/2008 20:44

well done LGJ

mistressmiggins · 10/03/2008 20:45

oh god shes still going on about frozen potatoes

frozen wedges?????

you just cut them & cover with oil & salt & shove in oven - why would you need them frozen

going to PARP myself off the pgm in a moment

Lucycat · 10/03/2008 20:46

that mince looked like dog food

Carmenere · 10/03/2008 20:47

I am disgusted with the cynical old baggage. She is just doing this for her pension.

mistressmiggins · 10/03/2008 20:48

agree Carmenere

I have her original book and love cooking from it but this is just tripe

very disappointed in her but I guess she's laughing cos we're all watching AND discussing her

very sad day for cooking

CatIsSleepy · 10/03/2008 20:49

i can't watch any more
she is making me feel sick
that sauce looked like vomit

sandyballs · 10/03/2008 20:52

She must be getting paid shed loads for the advertising of all this crap she is using. I noticed that Aunt Bessies have got a massive sticker on all their stuff now - 'Delia recommended'

CatIsSleepy · 10/03/2008 20:53

am not sure who this is aimed at
it's all very odd

mistressmiggins · 10/03/2008 20:54

Aunt Bessies yorkshire puds - people rave about them

dont get it - it takes about 2 mins to make the mixture, then it sits on my window ledge for hour resting & then in oven

not exactly hard

feel quite disgusted with her - off to google her & say so on her website

Hulababy · 10/03/2008 20:55

Frozen Yorkshire Puds I understand though. Perfect for when DD has a friend round after school, esp when unexpected. They all adore sausage, mash and puddings.

Hulababy · 10/03/2008 20:58

Actually I like this programme. Coming from someone like Delia I think it is good. We can be such food ponces at times, and it goes to show that sometimes cheating is allowed, it is okay to do if you want.

And better to do that than just resort to a ready meal surely?

I don't think is aimed at the avid cook. But then Delia never has been really - she is a real, at home cook - doing practical every day things. And if this encourages some more people just to give it a try then why not. After a while they might even try giving the real thing a go too.

Have to say myself though - I know over some things at the moment I can't quite bring myself to buy it - frozen mash for example. But that doesn't mean it is rong for people to do so does it?

mistressmiggins · 10/03/2008 20:59

But Hulababy it doesnt take ages does it

I can understand short cuts but she is going on & on about frozen mash - I will deffo turn off if she gets the SMASH out

having said that, we used to have SMASH on holiday in a caravan cos my dad cooked

Hulababy · 10/03/2008 21:00

I think people are missing the point - it isn't aimed at ypur guys who already cook from scratch! It is for the couch poato lot who just heat up a ready meal after work.

Hulababy · 10/03/2008 21:01

The book does have a recipe tat used instant potato - sure she does.

No, couldn't do tinned mince either.

BUT then I am used to cooking and cook daily, so don't feel I need to make the short cuts.

wolveschick · 10/03/2008 21:08

Am still miffed at DH salivating at shepherds pie I made using the frozen mash (needed a speedy tea). 13 years of peeling, mashing etc down the drain, unappreciated and unloved .

Carmenere · 10/03/2008 21:11

The reason I am disgusted with her is for the very reason that she is so bloody influential in this country. She has just given a huge boost to the industrial food producers/processors, and they, believe me, do not have the public's best interest at heart.
And the reason she has done this is not to release food ponces of the shackles of peeling spuds but to line her own pockets. I can guarantee that there is a serious amount of cash coming to her in sponsorship, on top of what she will earn from the book. It is SO morally bankrupt, I am disgusted with her and feel let down. Her position carries responsibility FFS and she has just stuck her fingers up to the British public and said I couldn't give a fuck, I'm all right

Hulababy · 10/03/2008 21:13

She is a business woman. Of course she has done it to make money. Why else would she appear on TV cooking?

I'd do it if someone paid me that amount of money.
