They wouldn't make a carpentry program for people who don't like carpentry, in which someone assembled a piece of flat pack furniture.

This is a funny quote from the Guardian blogs.

I am sorry but am lol at the cat/portaloo/death incident.

If Delia is trying to educate the masses who don't know how to cook (i.e. the poor and uneducated, we may as well say it) she is going about it the wrong way. A lot of the ingredients are FAR more expensive, lots of pricy stuff from jars, tinned mince from M&S, however disgusting, is going to be a lot more expensive than 1/2 a pound of proper stuff from a butcher. She has missed a real opportunity to demonstrate REAL cheap and quick meals.

I have not seen the programme, but I have the recipe book and there are actually quite a few decent recipes in it, especially for one pot roasts, where a lot of fresh ingreduents are bunged in a casserole, also quite a few Italian dishes which look good and are not full of processed shit. However, it seems like the programme is highly dependent on the Aunt Bessie and McCain frozen crap.

It's nothing new with her flogging stuff on the telly though, is there? Remember in the how to cook series where she raved about Marigold powder and Sauce Flour, and shops ran out of it?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 11/03/2008 17:39

Did anyone notice when the camera scanned her book shelf and focused on the Nigel Slater book. That made me larf.

grrrrr. how annoying that delia keeps putting her hand over the label and being vague about what the ingredients are. what's the point in that?

Hulababy · 17/03/2008 20:37

The hiding of labels must be a BBC censorship thing. In the book it list which shops she buys the stuff from.

FAQ · 17/03/2008 20:38

how annoying that she can't figure out that you can do an easy spag bol with tinned tomatoes and real mince in the time that it takes to boil the water and cook the pasta

Hulababy · 17/03/2008 20:38

I dont think it is aimed at the poor and uneducated, but those who get in late from work and can't be bothered, the ready meal group.

cyanarasamba · 17/03/2008 21:05

That soup must have cost ££££:
posh jar of soup
tinned crab
tinned lobster
creme fraiche
posh mayo
posh ready-made croutons
ready grated gruyere
etc etc

Not going to be much change from £25 I would have thought, for soup????

Prefer to make as much as I can fresh myself but wondering what all the fuss is about. Nobody objects to dear ol' Jamie pushing Sainsbury's crap on us during those interminable adverts. Just chuck in this pukka bottle ... puhleeeeeeeeeeeeeeze
