Anyone else looking forward to the new season starting on Wednesday? It will seem a bit strange without Perez but looks to be a good cast and storyline so far as we know.

Was it Ellen

Cathyt90 · 01/11/2023 22:26

I enjoyed that, and didn't miss Perez at all. Tosh has really come into her own.

wellAverage · 01/11/2023 22:27

I'm sure it was Ellen

MyCircumference · 01/11/2023 22:30

I didn't like it with Doug he shall but enjoyed it tonight

BiliousOhGod · 01/11/2023 22:34

I liked the episode, but not Phyllis Logan's accent.... I don't know why, but it sounded "weird". I know she's Scottish, but it almost sounded like someone with an English accent trying to do Scottish.. I guess the character is a Shetlander and they wanted that, but it isn't.

Anyway, I thought the girl at the end was Ellen. (Without the distinctive red coat.)

SabrinaThwaite · 01/11/2023 22:34

Doug Henshall was a bit too tall and ginger fair to be Jimmy Perez.

I like Tosh and I’d like to see more of Sandy too.

backtowinter · 01/11/2023 22:41

Yes I thought it was Ellen at the end. Although her red jacket wasn't there

Also think the candle business is a front for the drugs Sandy found

Ooo good call

watcherintherye · 01/11/2023 22:50

I thought the body was going to be the younger of the two ‘bad guys’ who got injured (did he shoot himself somehow?) after Ellen attacked him and escaped, but it did look like Ellen.

eeyoredebbie · 01/11/2023 22:57

Does Ashley jenson play the role seriously? I don’t want to watch it if it’s going towards “light humour” or comedy?

tapdancingmum · 01/11/2023 23:00

I really enjoyed it as was a bit 'meh' when it was mentioned at work as I didn't really like the old detective.

Will be watching from now on 😀

Iphianassa · 01/11/2023 23:06

@eeyoredebbie I think Ashley Jensen did play the role straight, but there were several funny moments. I enjoyed it.

It certainly wasn't comedy tonight - not a hint of Agatha Raisin. I can't see them changing the whole feel of the series like that.

WGACA · 01/11/2023 23:14

I loved it!

Ginseng1 · 01/11/2023 23:31

I liked it! I think there will be an Ellen twist. Did someone else kill her? And did she make a call from the telephone outside the shop?

LadyEloise1 · 01/11/2023 23:47

I miss Perez.
Why did Dougie Henshall leave the series? Sad

duc748 · 01/11/2023 23:51

I thought Ashley Jensen was fine, and Tosh too. But I really didn't think it was very good; it seemed packed with lazy stock characters. Just felt like previous seasons were much better written than this. But hey, only ep #1.

SabrinaThwaite · 02/11/2023 00:07

I did spot that they had managed to pick a particularly fine and sunny day to film at the Quinn / Bain house.

Must be a bugger for continuity.

Ilovetea33 · 02/11/2023 04:52

Meh - I can take it or leave it. I'd better program the recording for next week because I might forget about it otherwise.

A couple of seasons ago we were laughing at Sandy's cod-Shetland accent, only to discover the actor was Shetland born and bred 😳

laplage · 02/11/2023 09:13

I enjoyed it - good chemistry between Tosh and Ruth, shocking murders ( the poor shopkeeper), some interesting back stories to explore and some humour too. And of course the scenery - always the star.
A solid start.

I liked the new character and thought it was a good storyline.

But, do they have to have so much swearing in it? I don't remember so much bad language in it before. I just dont know what it brings to the story. I expect to be told it's just real life but I just don't know many people who talk like this day to day.

Sorry, I'm probably just an old misery.

Same, and was quite sad it was Ellen. He got shot in the stomach as he fired the gun when she got out of the car and the bullet ricocheted off the door.
I don't think the two heavies killed her, I wonder if it is anything to do with her friends husband as he didn't seem to keen on their friendship.
I think Ellen being killed has set up a rival gang thing between the London drugs gang and the Baines.
I wonder if Glasgow boy will be found with his bag of cash?

DisforDarkChocolate · 02/11/2023 11:42

I liked it. To be honest the last series was a massive drop in quality so I never missed Jimmy at all

Sandinyourshoes · 02/11/2023 11:57

Finding it as gripping, and chilling, as ever. Wondering how the dead sheep will fit into the plot. I’m also fairly sure the 2nd body was Ellen.
I can’t figure out how the trigger happy thug managed to shoot himself, was it ricochet or did the gun get knocked through 180 degrees in the scuffle as Ellen escaped? Such a twist when after escaping and jumping from a height she still ended as she seems to have done.
