Anyone else looking forward to the new season starting on Wednesday? It will seem a bit strange without Perez but looks to be a good cast and storyline so far as we know.

I think Ellen was shagging the psychiatrist when the boy died, and the wife found out and she killed Ellen. She had a panic at some point and tried to get her other child from nursery and do a runner.

Am sticking with it out of loyalty, though am wondering if I was just mesmerised byDougie H and never noticed Tosh's clunkiness.

I watched that and only realised halfway through that I'd completely forgotten about the first episode and how it all started. Maybe it's because I usually binge watch a series over 2 nights or maybe it's because it's a bit crap.

I miss Jimmy Perez, I know they're no longer based on the books but Shetland without Perez is like Taggart without Jim Taggart. I keep expecting him to walk back in and say "I'm back".

I'm finding it all rather boring. We know Ashley Jenson's character will end up staying and take over from Tosh as DI as they're making such a fuss with Tosh saying temporary DI all the time.

If that does turn out to be the case, it'll be dull, cookie-cutter plotting for sure.

Hinterland was great but also hilarious as we are in rural wales with assistant always in an anorak and multiple farms/ garages with misfit men doing strange things. And houses untouched since the 1940s!!

I saw the actor playing Mared in something else and she was playing a nasty character and it was all wrong.

Can't imagine her being a nasty character at all!

She's married to the guy who played Joe Miller in Broadchurch.

I agree with @DisingenuousBatshittery that there are too many characters who look alike or we get to see them rather fleetingly and / or don't register them in our brain as we are also following dialogue / plot.

I wonder if things will become clearer tonight, or just more confusing?!

I've managed to watch the episodes again, so can now identify everyone and feel on the ball and ready - hopefully! - to better understand and enjoy the remaining ones. I've never had to do that before.

Maybe I missed this but how come Sandy and Ruth didn't know each other if they are both so uber local? Sandy knew Cal according to that conversation in the car

Finally it begins to make sense! Right from the beginning there was a huge gap in the story - Ellen travelling back to Shetland but not going home. (Actually right from the beginning I’ve been certain she either saw or was in contact with her little brother …)

So now there’s a much more exciting list of suspects - all with the surname Bain. Plus her not-Bain dad …

This is all very interesting as I didn’t see it leading back to the Bains. So what on earth was Bobby doing in London?

If Heather and Ellen were there when the boy died, how come they both were? If Farida's account is accurate.

I am enjoying it.

And I am probably a lone voice singing to masel in the hills, but I’m liking Ruth as well.

I loved auld Perez but he was about done story wise. Like his coat…
